Force Imbuement and Kyber Crystals [ Jedi Academy, NJO & GA ]

HK would raise his hand again after looking about to give other people a chance to speak, it seems that Elmont was the only one out of organics gathered to listen to Rhen that offered some input on the matter,

"Force Imbuement is a process in which the Force is used to alter an item's physical structure, mostly on purpose to strengthen the item or give it special properties, however I have seen cases in which this was done accidentally merely by being in the presence of a powerful Force-user for prolonged periods of time. Often Force Imbuement has been presented as opposite of the Force Alchemy, however in my travels I came upon secluded Force-sensitive species who developed methods of manipulating the Force without any influence from the Jedi or the Sith, yet they were capable of conducting process that we call Imbuement or Alchemy. As such I suspect that Imbuement is one of the Universal Manifestations of the Force, along with abilities like Telekinesis or Empathy."

Machine explained, he spent plenty of time with beings known as Khazund, or most commonly known as "Space Dwarves" who he referred to in his little speech, they were great craftsmen and smith, creating objects imbued with the Force yet developing such methods isolated from other Force-wielding orders or cultures.

"That's like where you put the Force in things right...?" He said thinking about it at the same time. He was just kind of talking, trying to convince himself what he said made sense...

When he realized he was talking his eye blinked rapidly before he turned his attention to [member="Elmont Block"] "If anybody knows then he does..." Rebel said under his breath looking for the answer from his fellow Padawan. He started with an explanation that sounded like something smart and possibly the answer from what Rebel could tell but when he shrugged and claimed he didn't know, Rebel threw his arms up "Aghh..." because really that's all he understood from what he said.

"Jal Shey?" He thought to himself before turning to HK who gave his answer.

Rebel turned back to Old man Rhen, "I second what they said..."

Kellyn was still relatively new to the Force. He'd always had an inert ability to excel, but he never thought to attribute it to a high concentration of midi-chlorians. He thought that perhaps he might have gotten in over his head, but his master [member="Julius Sedaire"] urged him to push himself further. Though the ragtag man didn't appear to amount to much, he had a slew of accomplishments to show otherwise. Kellyn seriously doubted the man was anything short of highly intelligent, though he did have to admit the alcohol made for the perfect (and fun) cover, even if it wasn't his intention.

He leaned forward as the topic shifted to force imbuement. Crystallurgy was the drier topic of the two. Geoscience wasn't exactly high on Kellyn's lists of interests, but as the topic shifted, his attention grew to become a little more attentive. He assumed Force imbuement was exactly how it sounded, augmenting physical objects with powers of the Force. The process though, was relatively unknown to him. When Rhen asked the pupils of what they knew of it, Kellyn raised his hand slightly offering to contribute. However, the droid chimed in again with what seemed to be the textbook definition. Looking at the HK-36 through the corner of his eye, he returned his gaze forward as he lowered his hand. He enjoyed the skipping of the ramblings and absence of awkward silences from a lack of volunteers to answer, but he truly wondered if the lack of a human element in the class is what the instructor had in mind.

Rhen was amused. The old Corellian's right corner of his lip twitched up. "Everyone is correct... a few textbook answers, but we can broaden that a bit."

He began with his lecture. While he wasn't the sort to merely drone on, he wanted to at least provide a basis on the where and the why.

"The Force is as mysterious as it is powerful. The Jal Shey knew this, but were far more interested in studying the Force through a far more intellectual route." An elbow rose to brace against the pillar that held the crystals.

"They were diplomats, negotiators, and advisors. Nomadic travelers of the galaxy as they searched for new locations to increase their studies on the Force."

Taking a crystal in hand, he used it as a prop.

"Unlike some of our more eager brethren," Rhen explained, if a bit amused, "The Jal Shey were more interested in being able to imbue items with the Force. Common every day things." he gave a slight pluck of his robe.

"A robe. A belt." another gesture towards Rebel. "A ring. Perhaps even a trinket or headband." he began to walk a half circle.

"But imbuing the Force took a large amount of energy and a concentrated focus. A single item could very well take close to twenty-four hours for it to be imbued, likely leaving the Force User drained thereafter, requiring much needed rest."

He gestured to the crystal.

"What I will teach you today will be how different cuts can enhance this crystal with different properties. There after that, depending on where you would like to set your crystal at or for what use, I will go through the process of imbuing a simple enhancement through the Force."

A pause and a look around.

"Any questions?"

Kellyn listened as Rhen delivered the context of the history and origin of Force imbuement. It was all very intriguing. He was not familiar with the Jal Shey referenced, but he took a mental note of it so he might further look into the matter at a later time.

The process of Force imbuement sounded easy enough at first, but after hearing the Jedi knight explain it at length, he no longer thought it sounded so. Though usually confident in his endeavors, he felt his confidence in the Force wavering as he heard just how intensive it was. Only one question sprung to mind, to which he rose his hand politely and asked.

"Imbuement sounds like quite the intensive task. How would one's proficiency in the Force affect their imbuement of items?", he asked. He was sure the quality of a novice would hardly rival that of a master, but he too was curious as to whether or not a similar effect could be achieved in a comparable amount of time, or even if someone of his proficiency could achieve the task at all.

"Great question... " Rhen's eyes gave a slight scrunch as he attempted to get a good look at who had asked the question. An unfamiliar face but the Academy saw several visitors from time to time.

"It can affect the overall outcome. We are talking about energy. Energy that ones body is able to appropriately handle. Too much can drastically affect the body. Think of it as the difference between running a 100m sprint and a marathon. A small ring with a basic imbuement would utilize a different amount of energy than a sword imbued with a powerful Force effect."

"Your name?" Rhen inquired, smiling broadly. He was easily of good nature, if a bit amused. Whatever went behind his eyes in the form of thoughts was hidden away.

Elmont was always surprised when a Master asked a question and was surprised when they received standard responses. None of them were likely to be independent experts on this subject – or they wouldn’t be here – and so what they’d learned in lessons and picked up from datafiles was all they had to go on.

But Elmont listened. He was here and he wanted to learn, so why not pay attention?

Elmont thought long and hard about any questions. Finally he shared one. “Is it OK to learn and make a decision about what we might want to imbue later? I mean, I don’t have anything with me that I would want to work on.”

It made enough sense. One's proficiency in the Force didn't necessarily hamper the quality of the imbuement, but rather the scale at which something might be imbued. Rhen had likened the process to a sprint and a marathon - a sprint is naturally easier than an obscenely long distance. Kellyn imagined a ring being the sprint and a scimitar as the marathon. One was obviously larger and would in turn be harder to imbue.

Nodding in acknowledgment, Kellyn answered the Jedi's inquiry.

"Muir. Kellyn Muir."

Rhen's pock-marked, bearded face gave a wide smile. With an encouraging nod, the Corellian Jedi assured the younger man it could be done so.

"Indeed. My class will just cover the standard basic principals. The Force is all encompassing and it is able to help you provide a particular imbuement that you are after. Be it for mental protection, for enhanced stamina, or maybe just to keep a cool head."

The Corellian Jedi turned to Kellyn, glad to have a name."Kellyn Muir. Good, good, welcome." he gestured for him to come closer and settle down. If anything Rhen did enjoy providing instruction to students.

"Well, with that in mind. Let us begin." he added, turning back to the pedestal that held several different sizes of Upari crystals. "Come round, the Force will always provide... and help you select which one is best for you."

"We will begin with a lesson on how to appropriately cut and facet these Upari crystals."

Jala walked into the room with a nervous look upon her face. She had never trained with a group of people before. It was always one on one with her master in the Moross Crusade long ago. Sadly, her time there was not taken seriously by her. She has learned since then that the Force within her is a gift that must be used to bring light to the galaxy.

And this is what brought her here.

She settled in towards the back, peeking through creases between the other padawans so that she might get a glimpse as to what was going on.

"Hello everybody!!!" Were the words said by the nautolan Jerrol Bastu as he headed into the room not caring at all if the others in there seen or reacted to him. "Just here for some force training like the rest of you guys here." He said. He look around the room for a seat until he decides to take a seat near the back. After sitting down he rubs his hands together in exicitment for the training he was about to do.

"So what are we doing now, lifting up big objects or something?"

To be honest HK spaced out for a while there as Rhen begun to talk, looking to the side as the machine calculated what was his way of killing a Sith, not really paying attention to the class itself.

It was probably lifting them over his head, breaking their back over his knee, and then throwing them to bloodthirsty owlbears.

Either way it seemed that the class was moving forward with its content as Rhen moved on to show them how to cut crystals and apparently two more young Jedi joined them. HK's crisis control circuits kicked in to calculate which behavior to portray in order to seem like he was paying attention. The setting he deemed optimal was early 2000's anti bullying public announcement,

"Yo, crystals are whack."

He made a motion of an air guitar as if he was doing an elaborate instrumental solo,

"Off the hook!"

The droid more or less was just making stuff up as he went along.

Elmont did as he was instructed and stood up, before wandering across to the pedestal. There were an array of crystals to choose from and none stood out to him.

So he closed his eyes and sensed them instead. This time they all appeared in his mind’s eye with a light Force aura but one appeared much brighter than the others. He opened his eyes again and noted that, with unaided vision, they all looked the same again.

But he remembered the one that he seemed to connect with most of all and selected it, cradling it in his palm as he waited for further instruction.

Rhen could only shake his head at HK-36. Droids can be rather odd; and Rhen had met his fair share of them. While the Corellian Jedi Knight knew only enough common knowledge on this particular droid's history, he figured it was rather complicated. Then again, all droids had a way of evolving quirky personalities.

A few new faces joined the class, prompting Rhen to smile and pad over to them. The Jedi Knight gave a greeting, first at @Jala Rekab and then at @Jerrol Bastu, who was the more talkative one in the new group.

"Welcome, I am Jedi Knight Rhen Qel-Droma." he introduced himself, extending his hand. "As for what this is," a hand went gesturing towards the students, like [member="Elmont Block"], who were currently meditating and using the Force to select their crystal. "You are are just in time. The students are in the middle of selecting their own Upari crystal that I will teach to cut."

"Depending on how they are faceted, one can create a different enhancing quality. Would you like to join?"

Jala took this chance to step up so that she may learn something. "Yes, please. How does one choose their crystal?" Jala quickly turned from the nervous new student into the eager beaver that she was presenting herself as now. "My name is Jala. Pleasure to meet you, Master Qel-Droma"

Upon hearing the jedi knight answer on what they were doing Jerrol felt disappointed "Oh ok then" He said in a low tone voice. He was hoping that he was going to learn how to lift up large object with the force. He sighed in disappointment but tried to cheer himself up. He knew deep inside he was going to lift up large things. He just needed to bare with the "boring stuff" as he would put it and then he would lifting stuff with the force in no time.

"So where do I start with this?" He asked on the topic of upari.

Your focus determines your reality
Elmont was oblivious of the conversations happening around him. He had one ear on the Jedi that was taking the course and the rest of his focus was on the crystal.

Until now, he’d only ever used borrowed sabers. He’d never reached a point where anyone had encouraged him to craft his own. So, although he was able to use the blades he’d been lent, he could not empathise with anyone who told him just how different and special a personal saber was – and how much importance the crystal played in that situation.

But holding the crystal now, he could sense some sort of a bond, and realised that if this was something that was replicated when he crafted his own saber, it would truly be something different to use.

How does one choose their crystal? Rhen's face broke into a friendly smile. Ah yes, not everyone was fully aware of the Force and how it would connect all life.

The Corellian took a few steps forward, and then went to answer [member="Jala Rekab"] 's question, answering [member="Jerrol Bastu"] as well.

"Close your eyes." He began, instructing her. "Let yourself relax. The Force surrounds you as much as it does with the Upari Crystals."

"Meditate on that, spread out your mind to feel the currents of energy... that pulse. It is in you, in me, and in the crystals there." in everyone.

"Now, if you continue your focus, perhaps the Force will lead you to a particular flare of energy." And in that, it may be the crystal for Jala.
