Factory Rules Reworked

The Factory Rules page in your drop-down menu has been cleaned up after a year and a half of gradual changes. This reworking focused on the following elements:
  • Clarity
  • Formatting/grammar
  • Elimination of obsolete rules
  • Cutting extraneous content, like long lists of examples
  • A few minor changes to allow more creativity

You might recall a rule forbidding proton beam cannons and associated weapons; that rule has been removed. Likewise, I removed the rule requiring a development thread for significant variations on lightsabre technology, because in all my Factory time I've only ever seen two submissions like that, and it all fits nicely under 'FJs and staff can request a development thread for any submission.'

Also, Major Factions who've completed their faction development thread to be able to build 2km warships can now build ships up to 3km with multiple substantial development threads.

Does the ship building rules change? Anything over 1km was a dev thread. Are these more lax? The same and now you can get another kilometer with more work?

Relevant rules:

  • A development thread will generally be required for command ships or significant unique/minor production ships over 1,000 meters in length. Factory Staff may request this where they see fit.
  • No ship over 2,000 meters will be approved for any faction, except for special RPJ-approved event prizes and unique PC-captained vessels of 3,000 meters or less (with multiple substantial development threads).

What are the rules on 3km ships? Are they to be limited or semi-unique? We need more details.

Also, do proton beams have a certain turbaser equivalency?

[is to lazy to change back]

but but but no one ever reads the rules those are like the terms of service on apple products or the warning label on prophylactics saying "this isn't 100% percent effective"

No i like these rules and changes and look forward to never really making a ship that large cause I like my small unique and fun ships. anything bigger then a heavy cruiser means your looking for a fight. Below means your friendly.... or have Kirk aboard and looking to spread the glory of the federation
