 (Drama Megathread) On recent discussions

I'll say that I personally would like feedback, because I like to find ways to improve myself, but it's ultimately Staff decision. (And I like to think I'm doing a good job learning PvP anyway.) They run it how they want. It's our decision at the end of the day to be here or leave. Maybe they're biased, maybe they aren't. We have no way of knowing. But does any of that really matter? The bigger questions are are you telling the stories you want to tell and are you having fun telling them? If you are, then great. If not, take a breather. We all need to from time to time.

Do you even go here? Who are you? Have you been present in the last 12 months to actually be able to give a fully realised point of view? Or are you just jumping on the back of something because you, like everyone else in these conversations cannot resist the urge to add a little fuel to the fire.

Myself included, clearly.

Questioning the process does not hurt the writers feelings, when it is posed as a simple question. Mercy Mercy clearly stated they are in support of some form of feedback and understanding because people want to improve.

But questioning the process, and suggesting bias are two wildly different stand points, and suggesting bias does diminish the effort that the winning team put in. That is not "reframing" that is fact.

go home, you are drunk.

As for the rest of you who have raised points and been ignored because someone who used to be relevant thinks they have a say here:

You are right, people might be afraid to speak up. I hear it, I am guilty on occasion of slapping some snark down, because this is the internet and we are all trolls.

HOWEVER

I think you will find those quieter members who do speak up or ask for help receive genuine care and help. The repeat offenders who keep stamping their feet and flipping tables when things don't go their way and throwing up discussion threads that actually offer nothing of value to the community? Well, unfortunately, as I have already said this is the internet and on the internet when you repeatedly expose yourself, the trolls wills come. Is it right? Is it fair? Probably not.

But nor is life. There is a report button for a reason. Use it.
This response is part of the problem though. Instead of saying "oh this person hasn't been active for some time and therefore their opinion does not matter", why don't we ask why that person left in the first place? I certainly know why I did, and it's because of seeing people get treated exactly like that. And that bit at the end about people quietly asking for help is simply not true. I've experienced it first hand in the past. I have always put RP first, and yet have been met with with toxicity when simply trying to go about my day writing stories. I even tried dipping my toes back into this site not too long ago, and quickly got reminded why I stopped. The issues need to be addressed at their core instead of people instead of being dismissive (or for some people in some cases, outright insulting). RP is a collaborative effort. The community should be built up through that collaboration, not fractured by trolling and insults. So while I agree with wholeheartedly when people say "focus on RP" (which is indeed what we should do), we can't do that without also acknowledging the shortcomings of this community and finding a way to work through that.

Quis custodiet ipsos custodes?
Going back to OP's point, I would realistically expect that the frustration being expressed in the form of what was put forward on the "invasion criteria and feedback" thread comes from the discouragement associated with burnout. Ignoring motivations (whether you believe in the integrity of the system, or whether you believe there's any bias or lack of transparency in explaining it), losing a lot just wears on you. I've been in more than my fair share of factions over the years that lost their steam and became invasion bait, or that lost an invasion they started against another faction and began to daisy chain Ls, so I do admittedly feel qualified to talk on this.

The feeling of consistently being on the short end of the stick gnaws at you. The first couple of times, you might chalk it up to bad luck, but the more it happens consistently, the more it gnaws at you. Maybe you suck as a writer. Maybe you have some curse of bad luck where everything you touch faction-wise withers and dies. Every post in an invasion feels less like an opportunity to tell a story you and others both enjoy and more like a trudging obligation on top of whatever real-life obligations you have. Maybe it turns into less storytelling and more how best you can pull out the knife and gouge it into the people you're against to get some ounce of blood. And you have to do it, don't you? The faction's counting on you - if you don't, then you are the reason why they lost this time, or the next time an invasion happens and they lose. The judge wasn't biased - you just failed. Or maybe the judge was biased, and it was because you failed.

Discouragement turns to guilt; guilt strangles out whatever sense of enjoyment you can get writing stories, whether with complete strangers, rivals, or even people you genuinely like writing with. You become more withdrawn, less interested in writing except for the few threads and stories that give you just enough good feelings to get by, and it becomes a self-perpetuating cycle until you finally decide to step away. Maybe you come back after a few months, or several months, or a year, but then you end up jumping back in a faction - since that's where most of the activity is - and the cycle ends up starting all over again.

Figuring out how to deal with that discouragement and minimize it may be the solution to fixing the site's shrinking activity. I don't know. But it at least felt good to write about and believe in for the first time in a while.

Ya'll Need to take a second, breathe, and come to an agreement to stop treating each like garbage. Knock off the assumptions, grandstanding, and standing on horses so high you can't see the ground.

Everyone makes mistakes.

You, me, members, staff - Everyone. That is human nature. Give each other a little grace and you'll find that these conversations go a lot more smoothly. Be kinder and put yourselves in one another's shoes every once in awhile.

1.) It's 100% fair to ask for transparency.
2.) It's 100% fair to voice your feelings on the subject, respectfully, one way or the other.
3.) If you cannot be respectful do not comment.
4.) If you're going to hit the problem from an echo chamber do not comment.
5.) If you are being a good egg none of this applies to you.

Not everyone is going to be pleased with how things work on this website structurally. Both Valiens Nantaris and Tefka Tefka have already confirmed that we are not returning to invasion summaries and feedback so please keep that in mind.

You can still make suggestions, but more importantly, you can treat each other better. You can step OUT of this mentality any moment you choose to. The only thing it accomplishes, being cruel, is making people all over feel unwanted and unheard. The same cycle being complained about is being perpetuated. Staff are people. Members are people.

Neither are punching bags.

If you can be good to each other by all means continue.
wtf am I even reading rn?

but while we're on the subject-
my mistake was trusting you, Srina, to be balanced with my most-recent complaints about godmodders killing invasion threads, but what site staff have done in regards to the treatment of the GE post-Logan - was not a mistake. not then, not for a long time.

its not a bug here, its an entire feature, and it tires me to no end thinking about the times I tried to pretend it wasn't.

benefit of the doubt has been given too many times to consider this treatment of community outsiders to be a mistake, far too many times.

and if new writers want to weigh in on this, they're welcome to do so, but please, if it seems like they're just showing up for it's own sake, just dissuade them. its not like they know the lore this site won't inform them about, its not like they're going to bring fresh perspective whilst in a position of comfort here. nor will they ever be told why staff have such a bad reputation here. or least, not by those who committed to remain.

they're about as IN THE DARK as staff have always wanted them to be, so its not like I'm expecting site staff to find the remorse required to do so.

this, I don't mind, the silence, fine, you're trying to move past it, but to pretend like all these are just a rising count of isolated incidents is just straight up lying to yourselves for comfort. don't do that, like, ever, especially not if you know there's ramifications for behaving in such a way, for example, IN PUBLIC.

just get out in front of the allegations, and own that shit. like the rest of us would do, in your predicament. thats how you grow, thats how your reputation improves.

Going after Srina is a bold strategy. You don't even go here.

What you are reading is an admin telling people to calm down, and you are currently throwing gasoline on the fire and targeting said admin. That won't end well.

brigading to escape a point your opps are making is even bolder.

as it looks to me like you're making that point for them

One person is a brigade? Sure, I guess. But I don't need to defend the admin team they are quite capable of that themselves. Whatever point you thought you had vanished when you attacked Srina. But have fun, I guess? I was merely pointing out how unwise it was. You do you.

funny how you're taking me away from the original point, and pretending you're the only staffer brigading.

its stuff like this that makes it impossible for you to be taken seriously, by the way.
you'd never act this way in public, so why here?

reddit-tier snark has no place in creative forums.

I don’t particularly like the sentiment over the last two days. What if we call a truce on all these conversations until the town hall? Just a collective break to cool off and rationalize etc.

It seems these discussions have devolved into something that isn’t productive or positive, and definitely something I don’t want or like to see on Chaos. I think we can all agree that some of these topics are less productive than we’d like it to be. I don’t want to stifle conversation or debate but it doesn’t seem like we’re getting anywhere with these topics and threads, just getting nasty to each other.

Nah that guy's omega banned, and as always, I'd prefer everyone who's still watching these drama threads and haven't posted in a year just come on out, post their shit, and get banned. I find it cathartic, and I hope they do too.

You can still post your buddha stuff though that's chill, but I have a different way of handling these types.

Putting the foot down, this is the megathread, the last thread, for any invasion drama or staff drama you guys wanna throw out into the void. Please remember, you can speak freely, but I can murder you in minecraft freely.

People like Erskine who are still butthurt after a year of inactivity and wanna post crazy like whatever the hell he just wrote, come forth, say your peace, let it bang, whatever. You get too toxic though and there's gonna be a clapback, and it might be severe.

I'm like Shrek. Better out than in with the angst. Plan it out a little bit better too, like post in the early AM so the Admins are likely sleeping and you get more clicks, maybe some reacts, before someone wakes up and goes "sigh" and hits the report or ban button.

No more threads though. We're gonna be removing those. You wanna air it out, you come here. Stop clogging up the "new threads" widget for all the roleplayers trying to see roleplay happening and instead gotta see this dumb stuff. Remember, people who enjoy this place (and have for our nearly 15 years of life) are still trying to post even if you're doneso.
