Public Deep in the Graveyard (Horror Mystery Thread: OPEN)

Opersh Krul

Monster of the Deep
No emotion was seen on Krul's face as he continued hammering his blade down on Daro Roz’yrn Daro Roz’yrn 's energy shield, pushing the infidel further and further back. And once his boots regained their traction, the energy shield began to flicker. The energy shield was dying.

And as Krul's face bore no emotions, his eyes told a different story. They bore through the infidel's visor with a dominating glare that sent most people running for their lives. They spewed forth a deadly confidence that any monster of a conquering force would have, one that lived off of catching the dying breath of all that were caught in the path of his blades.

While Daro's focus was on Krul, three more soldiers quickly approached in unison; two from either side and one from behind. The two from the sides instantly grabbed hold of Daro's arms and splayed them outwards while the one from behind locked his arm tightly around Daro's neck.

"The infidel speaks and dares to make orders to their superiors. The infidel's machines won't save him. The infidel needs to cut the machines loose from his body in order to live. Machines bring death."

Krul took two steps back and gripped his blade, confident in the hold that his soldiers had on the infidel. "The infidel requires a demonstration and we must oblige." A split second after the last word was spoken, his razor sharp blade cut down onto Daro's arm that held the energy shield, right through the elbow joint of his armour, causing the energy shield to flicker moreso before it shut off.

Further into the field, the soldiers swarmed the battledogs, grabbing hold of their limbs when they could and tore them apart with brute strength. The fallen ships of Dreidi Xeraic Dreidi Xeraic , Lukas , Adeline Noctua Adeline Noctua , Audren Sykes Audren Sykes and Jasper Kai'el Jasper Kai'el were also surrounded and climbed on top of. The soldiers used their blades to try to cut their way inside.

All was done in silence. There were no war cries or shouting of any kind. Darkness and fear were their allies in their assault.

While all eyes were facing forward, the forest behind the settlement began to give way as something enormous began rolling it's way through.

No tricks, no traps. It was a refreshing difference from the norm he was presented with. She watched the two of them as they entered, her presence seeming to contain a general alertness while still being pensive. When she offered a seat he accepted with a nod of thanks. He could almost feel the blocks moving, fitting together pieces of the puzzle, and meanwhile the gongs were still ringing outside. All at once the last of them was hit, the final notes slowly fading into the night air. He gave a quick glance to the door she'd locked behind them, but she made no move to unlock it. Instead she whispered quietly to them.

It was clear that she wasn't trying to hold them here with the lock. The way she'd glanced outside before securing the door, the way she was whispering now...she didn't want something outside hearing and getting in. The woman had put together that they were off-worlders who'd crashed here, apparently not an uncommon occurrence. From there though she went on to speak of 'they'. The vague description and whispers would have been an attempt to draw them in and have the focus be just on the speaker in many cases - a storyteller drawing them in or a charlatan weaving a trap - but those didn't seem to ring true with this one. It was entirely possible he was misreading her though, new people were sometimes difficult.

The description - vague though it was - reminded him of the Yuuzhan Vong. He remembered a bit from the history lessons and stories: extra-galactic technophobes who exclusively used biotechnology and had waged war - and almost defeated - the denizens of the galaxy pre-Gulag. Dangerous creatures who'd had a grudge against technology and done their very best to eradicate it. What little he remembered however suggested that 'other settlements' likely wouldn't have been able to reach this one to tell the tales.

When Audren spoke, his voice matched her volume: loud enough to be heard but to not carry through the walls.

"Who are they, and why do they do this?"

Meanwhile out in the mushroom jungle the silent forces would encounter very little outwardly special about his ship. Standard access points were sealed and if forcibly opened would result in an electrical charge powerful enough to stun the average human for a few minutes. Due to the crash landing there were various rends and tears that could be widened or used to enter the remains of the ship. Depending on how vigorously they worked to dismantle the thing though, they were in significant danger of being instantly consumed by the ship's self destruct mechanism. It carried proprietary equipment undergoing testing...better to destroy the equipment - and those trying to get at it - than to lose the market share they would eventually bring.

The building that Lukas opened the door of was little more than an old home, abandoned and empty. "We don't know what They are. Just stay inside, lock the door and be quiet until morning." The young man then hurried off to the wall. It was all that he could do for the outsiders at the moment. Lukas and Adeline Noctua Adeline Noctua would have to heed his advice and fend for themselves as best as they could.

Jasper Kai'el Jasper Kai'el was silent, yet Audren Sykes Audren Sykes was not. The man appeared to be a veteran of dangerous situations. He kept calm like those of this settlement did, not allowing panic to take over. "Others have simply called them monsters. Silent, yet deadly, they attack only at night. Our guess is that it's more of a tactic than anything else. Some settlements had been taken over by them, others were destroyed. Graveyard has always been dangerous, but this is different. This is new. We don't know where they come from or if they were always here. But it doesn't matter. As far as she knew, they just needed to survive the night and should they make it beyond the wall, the less signs of life within the settlement that there were, the better.
