Crunch Time

What about a non-aggression pact for a certain period of time? Because if the ST didn't want to entertain the threat of invasion, why not approach the SSC first?

It just seems like there's too much OOC reasoning of "don't attack us we are the little guys", which is compromising the values of, frankly both of the factions.

Case in point when the TU went to invade the Hutt Cartel, FAs did everything OOC to try and stop it, including a merger with the GR which made no sense IC. What happened? Without even the invasion happening, the Hutt Cartel disbanded. Why? Lots of reasons, but one of them was because most of the HC members wanted the invasion, and I think arguably, it would have stimulated membership in the long run.

Ehhh [member="Connor Harrison"] baby this isn't Batman V Superman where just because we disagree we automatically have to fight in an all out war. This is more like disagreeing with your sister about which backstreet boy is hotter.

I don't see the logic in Jedi fighting one another because they have a policy disagreement...and I don't believe there is one. The past posts were a debate with one of ST's leaders, not SSC people.

Besides, yesterday you were very eager to attack Sithies. Now you want a civil war again. :D Given past precedence and IC logic, I vote against splitting a faction unless there's a very good reason and actual IC buildup for it. That shouldn't be done on a whim.

[member="Valiens Nantaris"] Hey, I was talking to my people, and they would like us to reach out to the SSC in an IC thread to establish a formal alliance. Would you all be open to that?

While in the Game of Nations, such politics are generally welcome. I will META for a moment and speak to this. IC, it is usually cray-cray to parlay with a Sith government. IC, Sith governments are two-faced and dishonorable scoundrels. Their true nature never disguised, one wit. Yet... OOC, such an idea works out fine. Well, as long as you are just writers being writers. Keeping everything on the level about the game. Gamers talking gaming, and all that. But yeah, as soon as you say: Let's go be IC and make a deal with the Sith Triumph? Oh no. No no no. You get bad publicity and immediate kickback from your own member group. There is nothing worse IC than telling your member base, Hey guys. Let's all play nice with the Sith for a few months. Because politics. Nah. That's just chaffing.

In closing. Love this idea. But I believe it would best implemented as a Gamer's discussion, OOC, with regard to each faction as writers and peers, and announced as such to both factions OOC sub-forums.

Still, abstaining.

A non-aggression pact is not a peace treaty. It's an act of neutrality, abstaining from military action over a period of time.

I seem to remember seeing certain members of your faction mocking SSC for being passive and that ST would invade and beat us up. Your chosen location for ST was really, really close to us. It's not like we're crossing the map to encounter you.

Any deal would be strictly OOC. IC there is no reason for Jedi to trust anything the Sith say. It's not like ST members have not already struck at us as [member="Nima Tann"] said.

OOC though I am not unsympathetic to your problems, but it's clear to me that when we're distracted and you are stronger you'll have no compunction in attacking us. Any agreement then would be only be a temporary truce, liable to be broken when it is advantageous.

This invasion would take only one of your planets. There's no reason why it would destroy you, it may direct your efforts away from us, in which case we're unlikely to keep attacking. However, IC and OOC the map game is like Risk - you don't let the guy build up in Australia because he will eventually be strong enough to threaten you.

Because I wanted to clarify that a peace treaty and non-aggression pact are not the same thing? It's a point of distinction that was important to the discussion IMO.

No need to make a hypothetical situation into something personal.

Don't mind JSC, he's just quibbling. :p

Since this thread got very heated, I think we should all remember that this is a game. Like Risk it's easy to take things personally (every Risk game I've played has ended heatedly!) but we're not doing this for that reason.

ST is a potential rival, so if (and it's by no means assured) we win I am not wanting to grind them into the dust. However, they should be neutralised. There's no point starting a conflict with the OS whilst we have a predator growing on our flank.

So with this in mind I am going to gather together SSC admins and ST admins into a PM and discuss matters. The invasion will go ahead but if they absolutely do not want to compete then we're not going to be jerks about it. However, we'll have to wait and see what happens.

There have been accounts of ST members aiming to glass a planet close to our own influence. However, what one person says, may not be what everyone else thinks.

As you say, its a game. I wasn't heated at all, I wasn't mad. Just for clarification, I am not in any way tilted or heated up, or triggered. Now, I can't say the same for Shorn since he was bombarded with responses shooting down his idea. And I will admit that I used some passive aggression against him. And I will likely be PMing him later to let him know I was not anywhere near meaning anything personal, but lets try and keep this civil, and open minded to everything that is said.

Nato felt like a post :).

Funny thing is I agree with almost everything people said, mostly true. Still need the border safe from the ST to proceed, for me I am glad that is coming first.
The OS are then still a big bad that needs stomping eventually to help liberate some of those worlds. *Kei will grumble just pat him on the head* Still wish you could turn worlds neutral.

Just so nobody misses your post in this, I'll highlight it again for you with a mention.
