Greetings lifeforms.
So I'm new the Republic side of things. This is literally the only character I've made that is attempting to align with that of the GR, but I've been around the board for quite sometime now. I'll mention a few things that are rolling around my brain at nearly 3am in relation to this idea of the Cold War proposal.
To start off with, let's define what a 'cold war' actually is, because it hasn't really be specifically detailed, and some people may not be entirely clear on what it actually entails.
"A cold war or cold warfare is a state of conflict between nations that does not involve direct military action but is pursued primarily through economic and political actions, propaganda, acts of espionage or proxy wars waged by surrogates. The surrogates are typically states that are "satellites" of the conflicting nations, i.e., nations allied to them or under their political influence. Opponents in a cold war will often provide economic or military aid, such as weapons, tactical support or military advisors, to lesser nations involved in conflicts with the opposing country." - source
Breaking this down, it would mean (by this definition) that the conflicts with the OS and the GR would be based on political statements, economic warfare, raids, and skirmishes that are used to break spirit as opposed to take land. As well the surrogate states the definition mentions would be those factions that are allied with the GR and OS. So this would be an avenue for the Primeval and Techno Union to preform raids and skirmishes (non-military) on us, as well our own allies against them. I've not seen this type of warfare done to any fair extent, but it seems like a rather unique angle that I wouldn't mind perusing.
For those of you that believe that you can take on the OS in a PVP stance, or even a military stance enough to thwart them, let me remind you that everything you're referencing has been tried. Long before even Corvus or Taeli were in office, anyone who faces the OS in a conflict of that regard has lost. Mandalorians, Republic, Protectorate..you name it. The OS is a war machine - that is their purpose and they are good at their job. This is a far more tactically advantageous idea - and it wasn't done simply because it was going to be easier for the OS, and give them benefit. If you think about it - this goes against what they are known for. In short it's an olive branch to help drive Story over War.
So my vote on this is a resounding yes.
