OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
GENERAL INFORMATION
  • Organization Name: Clan Galaar
  • Classification: Mandalorian Clan
  • Affiliation: The Enclave
  • Organization Symbol: Clan Galaar's symbol is a horned mythousaur skull, encircled by Runian symbols
  • Description: Clan Galaar is a Mandalorian clan, largely but not entirely consisting of Valkyri, whose culture is a unique combination of the customs of the Valkyri people and the Mandalorian culture. The religion of their homeworld combined with the adherence to the resol'nare and the Supercommando Codex has created a Mandalorian faction that is doubly proud, doubly eager for glory, and doubly ferocious on the battlefield while the combination of Mandalorian smithing and beskar and Valkyri craftsmanship ensures the wargear of Clan Galaar is unlike that of any other Mandalorian clan.

GEOGRAPHICAL INFORMATION
  • Headquarters: The Hawk's Nest, Roon
  • Domain: Clan Galaar controls the southern tip of the mountain range on the northeast of the Daba'r continent on Roon. The Hawk's Nest is their headquarters, but they have smaller villages scattered throughout the territory.
  • Notable Assets: The Hawk's Nest
SOCIAL INFORMATION
  • Hierarchy: At the top of Clan Galaar's hierarchy is the Aliit'alor, or Jarl in Runian. The Jarl has absolute control over the clan, though rarely acts without receiving advice and opinions from the clan as a whole. Below the Jarl are the Akaan'alore, also referred to as Húskarls. The Húskarls are comprised of the Jarl's most trusted warriors and advisors, the creme of the crop. Below the Húskarls there is little hierarchy aside from that of experience, though skilled blacksmiths are held in high regard among the Clan. Unique to Clan Galaar, however, are their own sect of Karjr, known as the Einherjar. Unlike some other Karjr Marshals, the Einherjar have turned to the path of the wandering lawman not for credits, or for personal glory, but out of devotion to the Valkyri god of War and Justice, Helm.
  • Membership: As with many Mandalorian clans, Clan Galaar takes in Foundlings from orphans found in their territory on Roon as well as in the field. Those who wish to join who are not foundlings are usually put to drinking contests and friendly brawls. While not a requirement for entry, a common practice for new recruits to prove themselves is to slay a large beast, an event observed by a gathering of veteran kinsmen to verify that it occurred.
  • Climate: Clan Galaar are generally warm and inviting, especially if you prove yourself to be a competent drinker, brawler, or both. As long as you're not with the Sith, you are welcome to share a drink and a story with the clan, and you're sure to leave with your stomach full.
  • Reputation: To those who they consider friends, which tends to be anyone not aligned with the Sith Empire, the clan is regarded as jovial, affable, and accepting. They are known to be an honest, open people who are not quick to anger, though they can be stubborn when set in their ways. However, they are hostile to the Sith Empire, though this is mostly a one-sided grudge as the Sith have little idea who they are.
  • Curios: All members of Clan Galaar are granted a pendant in the shape of the Beskaryc Kar'ta, or Iron Heart, though those who take to the forges often smith their own Iron Hearts. In addition, war paint and tattoos are common indicators of membership, though the form these markings make are as varied as Mandalorians themselves are. The wearing of beast pelts is seen as a mark of skill among the Clan, as are jewelry and armor adornments made from their teeth and bones.
  • Rules: Resol'nare, Supercommando Codex
  • Goals: Clan Galaar seeks to survive in a galaxy that tends to want Mandalorians dead, as well as protect their culture as all Mandalorians of the Enclave do. Now that they have joined the Enclave, they also wish to share their mix of Valkyri culture and Mandalorian customs with their other kin, as well as their expertise in smithing.
MEMBERS

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Clan Galaar has not always gone by that name, nor were they always a Mandalorian clan. Rather, they trace their origins to the Midvinter, the homeworld of the Valkyri species, where they were known as the Snjóhaukur Clan. There, they existed for generations as a relatively simple clan of proud warriors and excellent smiths, as was custom for Valkyri, and had little experience with offworlders, though this was not uncommon on Midvinter.

About twenty years ago a man by the name of Skjor became the Jarl of the clan, leading his kin into battle after battle, earning them all much glory. Five years into his tenure as Jarl, an event occurred that would change the course of Snjóhaukur Clan forever. One day while Skjor and two of his Húskarls were in a great meadhall, they encountered a trio of men clad in strange iron armor with faceplates like crosses. Approaching the man who appeared to be their leader, Skjor challenged them to a brawl to test the foreign warrior's strength. The man agreed, and after stripping off their torso armor and shirts the two men engaged in their fistfight. The two of them were evenly matched at first but eventually Skjor gained the upper hand, pinning the man with an arm like a tree trunk.

After Skjor helped the man to his feet with a hearty laigh, the foreign warrior introduced himself and his two companions to be Mandalorians, a warrior people from beyond Midvinter. Skjor, the Mandalorian leader, and their men conversed for hours, alternating between drinking contests and friendly brawls, and during this time they came to the realization that their cultures weren't so different after all. At the end of the day the Mandalorian made an offer to Skjor: join the Mandalorians, so he and his clan could gain glory beyond what Midvinter could offer, plunder he could scarcely even dream of.

That night Skjor returned to his clan, seeking the opinions of his people. With him, he brought the three Mandalorian warriors, who his clan was eager to question. The conversations between the Valkyri clansmen and the Mandalorians lasted all night and into the morning, but eventually they came to an agreement: as long as he and his kin were allowed to follow the Mandalorian culture in a way that respected their Valkyri beliefs, they would join them. For the Valkyri to turn their backs on their gods would be inviting disaster. The Mandalorians agreed, telling them that they could do as they wished as long as they acted with honor and followed the Resol'nare.

A Clan Galaar hunting party moving across the snowy terrain of Krownest

After taking the time necessary to pack up their belongings, the Snjóhaukur Clan left for Mandalorian space. They decided to settle down on Krownest, as its climate was much like their homeworld. They were used to the cold and the snow, and Krownest was the perfect fit. The man once known as Skjor Snjóhaukur took the name Jiriad Galaar, "White Hawk" in the Mandalorian language, and from that day forth Snjóhaukur clan became Clan Galaar. Jiriad became good friends with the Alor of another clan on Krownest, Jor Kvall, their friendship beginning with a feast at Kvall's home, Heorot Hall.
All good things must come to an end, however. Eventually, the Mandalorian Empire's war with the Sith Empire reached Krownest, and it was overwhelmed. Clan Galaar retreated to their fort in the mountains. There, they laid low for years, evading Sith patrols, occasionally clashing with the Sith when avoiding them was impossible. Jiriad joined Alor Kvall's resistance group, the Forest Sons, but they were still vastly outmanned and outgunned by the Sith Empire. Some years later, they received word of a safe haven for Mandalorians, the Enclave, located within Separatist space. While he had promised to free Krownest or die trying, Jiriad recognized that the survival of his clan must take precedence. Clan Galaar reluctantly packed up again, this time escaping to Roon, where the Enclave was based.

Now they have set up a new home, The Hawk's Nest, in the southern tip of the northeast mountain range on the Daba'r continent. From this fort in the mountains, they have built villages in the surrounding ranges and the ground below, as well as building into the mountains themselves. Much like the Valkyri and the Mandalorians, they are built to last, and this time Jiriad will not abandon them.
