Arrival of the Original Garrison:
Over 600 years ago a small Imperial Remnant chanced upon the Castillon system while fleeing from New Republic and Sith expansion elsewhere in the galaxy. By fleeing to the deep Outer Rim and staying away from major hyperspace lanes they hoped to find at least a semi permanent peace and refuge. As the remnant's ships entered the system they found that the dense Ice Belt and Oort Cloud provided excellent natural defense. They spent a few weeks charting the safe passages before entering the system. What they found exceeded all their expectations, a large temperate world beautiful even from orbit. Landing on its surface only reinforced their thoughts: beautiful landscapes, crystal clear freshwater systems and a clear breathable atmosphere, a great find by any metric. The leaders of the remnant instantly recognized the potential of the planet as not only a great place to start a civilization but also as a well defended resupply point for other Imperials operating in the Outer Rim. Because of this the name Castillon was deliberately chosen, a beautiful fortress sustaining life and projecting power. The moons Vigil and Sentinel were named in a similar fashion as they would always watch over them.
The Good Old Days:

As such the capital city of Castellum was the only city ever established on the planet with the rest of the settlements being small towns, farming communities and sites for the planetary defense network. With support from other Imperial factions the construction of the colony progressed at a steady pace. Soon the next group of settlers arrived, this time mostly civilian support staff, engineers, administrators and farmers who would cultivate the land and continue the colony's development. Additional settlers would trickle in over time but by this point the colony was firmly established serving Imperial patrols that stopped by for resupply. The planet's community was well knit and self sustaining, children would often grow up to take up their parents' career paths. The garrison was not distant from the population. They would go to local bars, give curious school children tours of defense facilities and their ranks were filled by members of the community. Over generations the population grew to nearly 3 million, military families, farming communities, civil administrators and craftsmen all working together to build something permanent. Eventually a larger Imperial faction siphoned off Castillon's defense fleet as they were needed elsewhere in the galaxy. The Garrison remained content however, their shields were up, the guns in place. It seemed like nothing could touch them on their little gem of an outpost.
The Darkest Hour:

It took merely a few days for the sickness to ravage Castellum and a couple of weeks for the rest of the planet. Frantic distress calls were sent out. The planet's medical facilities were optimized for combat injuries and routine illness not a galaxy wide pandemic. No ships carrying desperately needed aid arrived. The broader Imperial networks were under the same strain. No help of any kind reached the planet. Powerless, the 3 million strong population was reduced to a mere 50,000 scattered across a planet meant for millions. The shields were still up and the guns still aimed, but now there was nearly nobody left to man them. Castillon's civilization was ruined not by a rival faction but by something invisible its defenses were never built to counter. Eventually the distress calls stopped. The Twilight of Civilization:
With the survivors spread far too thin to maintain civilization across the planet they slowly but surely consolidated themselves in three general areas: Castellum, the Infinitum Plains and the Viridian Hills. Without the necessary manpower to maintain the infrastructure, defense network nodes began failing one by one. The 400 Year Darkness only worsened the situation. The entire galaxy was collapsing leaving Castillon with no outside Imperial factions to call on for support. Through this they gained the trust of the members of the various communities. Charles was supported by the leader of the Castellum Community Edward (the same one who is now Governor) and his daughter Hannah (later wife to Captain Charles) and son Jager. Thanks to their help Charles was able to travel to the various communities to get them onboard with his plan of restoring the planet and connecting back to the wider galaxy.

Mahporeem was suffering through a food shortage during that time and High Command was convinced Castillon’s endless food producing plains would provide the relief they needed. As such they dedicated a large amount of resources to begin immediately. Convoy after convoy arrived. Mining and Processing Ships, Armies of Engineers and Construction Droids and Supply Ships carrying the first parts of Galactic Standard technology arrived. Charles had left behind a plan for the planet’s organization into a proper government. It was implemented by the Castillonians. The settled areas of the planet, Castellum, the Infinitum Plains and Viridian Hills each became a sector. Castellum became the capital and the first election was held. Edward became governor while much of the former community leaders became a part of the Senate or other government positions. They coordinated with Mahporeem Engineers to reconstruct the planet.

The spaceport that would become known as Castellum One became very large thanks to the amount of construction material, equipment and workers it had to process everyday. The entire city was demolished for a certain area designated as the historical district. Its materials were recycled and used along with materials mined from the Inner Asteroid Belt, Cinder and Forge to completely rebuild the city. The engineers designed several default blocs that could be slightly modified to speed up the construction. The Main Square, Government Buildings and the Historical district were the only parts left to be designed separately. As such Castellum became famous for its rather uniform look, though construction quality remained high. City planners and Engineers later made a second similar sized space port Castellum Two to serve as a military logistics point and speed up the flow of materials and workers even more. Castellum would be mostly complete about a year after restoration began.

Castellum was still the Planetary Capital and capital of Sector One. The Infinitum Plains became Sector Two with Garrcus appointed as Prefect, his hometown of Goldfield growing into a small city serving as the sector capital, processing the enormous agricultural output of the plains and eventually developing its own spaceport to serve the agricultural transport routes to Castellum and Mahporeem. The towns of the Plains grew and their transportation networks improved significantly. The Plains were producing enough food to supply all of Castillon, generate surplus and contribute meaningfully to relieving Mahporeem's food shortage — exactly as Charles had promised High Command. Sector Three, the Viridian Hills, developed at its own pace in keeping with its character. Lyra became its prefect and her settlement of Wellspring grew into a large town. The traditional water stewardship and hill farming techniques that had sustained the hills communities for six hundred years were preserved and supplemented with modern technology rather than replaced by it. Scattered landing pads connected the Hills to the rest of the planet via shuttle routes. The water stewardship arrangement that had existed informally for generations was formally recognized and protected by Edward's government.
Mahporeem would also send many advisors to Castillon to train an initial batch of cadets. The first to sign up was Jager (Edward’s son). He would later become the base commander of Fort Edward, Castillon’s first military base. Eleven others would be built. The Planetary Defenses became quite strong. There were hundreds of Orbital Defense Cannons and the planet’s many Planetary Shield generators were hidden under mountains to be better protected. Mahporeem also provided a defense fleet and a couple of orbital defense platforms.
Hannah Charles, daughter of Governor Edward, was appointed as Castillon's first Ambassador to the wider galaxy, coordinating communications through the restored relay on Mount Maximus. She had fallen in love with Captain Charles soon after his arrival and the two would eventually start dating after his return. Thanks to the plots of her best friend Sena and Charles’s XO Holt the two would get married a year later. Sena later took over the role while Hannah joined Charles aboard the Stryker II. First Scouting Squadron formally established Castellum Two as their primary base of operations.
Castillon was no longer a footnote lost to time. It had become the second most important world of the Mahporeem Imperial Remnant, second only to Mahporeem itself. The foundation was laid by the people who had always been there and those who chose to come. What came next would be built by both — and inherited by the children of both.

Mount Maximus is quite accessible to climbers up to about 70% of the way up, after that specialized breathing equipment and climbing tools are required. This point features a flat area known as The Checkpoint. Generations of climbers have rested here before turning back or pressing on to the summit after equipping themselves properly. The Check Point also houses the main relay for Castillon that allows it to communicate with the rest of the galaxy. Mahporeem was suffering through a food shortage during that time and High Command was convinced Castillon’s endless food producing plains would provide the relief they needed. As such they dedicated a large amount of resources to begin immediately. Convoy after convoy arrived. Mining and Processing Ships, Armies of Engineers and Construction Droids and Supply Ships carrying the first parts of Galactic Standard technology arrived. Charles had left behind a plan for the planet’s organization into a proper government. It was implemented by the Castillonians. The settled areas of the planet, Castellum, the Infinitum Plains and Viridian Hills each became a sector. Castellum became the capital and the first election was held. Edward became governor while much of the former community leaders became a part of the Senate or other government positions. They coordinated with Mahporeem Engineers to reconstruct the planet.
Priority was given to Castellum initially, especially its main square and space port. The spaceport that would become known as Castellum One became very large thanks to the amount of construction material, equipment and workers it had to process everyday. The entire city was demolished for a certain area designated as the historical district. Its materials were recycled and used along with materials mined from the Inner Asteroid Belt, Cinder and Forge to completely rebuild the city. The engineers designed several default blocs that could be slightly modified to speed up the construction. The Main Square, Government Buildings and the Historical district were the only parts left to be designed separately. As such Castellum became famous for its rather uniform look, though construction quality remained high. City planners and Engineers later made a second similar sized space port Castellum Two to serve as a military logistics point and speed up the flow of materials and workers even more. Castellum would be mostly complete about a year after restoration began.
With Castellum established as the administrative heart of the restoration the development spread outward. The planet was formally divided into three sectors. Castellum was still the Planetary Capital and capital of Sector One. The Infinitum Plains became Sector Two with Garrcus appointed as Prefect, his hometown of Goldfield growing into a small city serving as the sector capital, processing the enormous agricultural output of the plains and eventually developing its own spaceport to serve the agricultural transport routes to Castellum and Mahporeem. The towns of the Plains grew and their transportation networks improved significantly. The Plains were producing enough food to supply all of Castillon, generate surplus and contribute meaningfully to relieving Mahporeem's food shortage — exactly as Charles had promised High Command. Sector Three, the Viridian Hills, developed at its own pace in keeping with its character. Lyra became its prefect and her settlement of Wellspring grew into a large town. The traditional water stewardship and hill farming techniques that had sustained the hills communities for six hundred years were preserved and supplemented with modern technology rather than replaced by it. Scattered landing pads connected the Hills to the rest of the planet via shuttle routes. The water stewardship arrangement that had existed informally for generations was formally recognized and protected by Edward's government.
Mahporeem would also send many advisors to Castillon to train an initial batch of cadets. The first to sign up was Jager (Edward’s son). He would later become the base commander of Fort Edward, Castillon’s first military base. Eleven others would be built. The Planetary Defenses became quite strong. There were hundreds of Orbital Defense Cannons and the planet’s many Planetary Shield generators were hidden under mountains to be better protected. Mahporeem also provided a defense fleet and a couple of orbital defense platforms.
Hannah Charles, daughter of Governor Edward, was appointed as Castillon's first Ambassador to the wider galaxy, coordinating communications through the restored relay on Mount Maximus. She had fallen in love with Captain Charles soon after his arrival and the two would eventually start dating after his return. Thanks to the plots of her best friend Sena and Charles’s XO Holt the two would get married a year later. Sena later took over the role while Hannah joined Charles aboard the Stryker II. First Scouting Squadron formally established Castellum Two as their primary base of operations.
Castillon was no longer a footnote lost to time. It had become the second most important world of the Mahporeem Imperial Remnant, second only to Mahporeem itself. The foundation was laid by the people who had always been there and those who chose to come. What came next would be built by both — and inherited by the children of both.
