He had felt pain before, and he desperately hoped that this would be different. He wanted nothing more than to have a family, someone that loved him like he loved them, someone to hold and protect, to care for and provide for. But he knew he could have all those things with Faith and she would never be only his. She would always belong, at least in part, to her people. It wasn't something he felt detracted from her beauty, but added to it. There were hundreds of physically beautiful women that would have been perfectly happy bearing his children and hiding on the outer rim with everything they ever wanted brought to them. That appealed to him some, but not truly. He didn't want to own someone like that. Take away their individuality. He had always felt drawn to powerful women that wouldn't be buried beneath his protectiveness and possessiveness.
He knew, even as he sat kissing her and playing with her in this lake house, that Faith would always be Faith, and that if he couldn't add to her rather than detract, he didn't deserve her. The thoughts in Draco's mind were odd, conflicted. He offered the only thing he could without taking her from her people, to be her constant place of refuge, the one person she could always turn to. And she gave him the same and more, more than she realized. It would be hard for him to be away from her, but he would have the memories of their time together to keep him company, and he would have their next retreat to look forward to. They could make this work, the Sith Lord and the Princess of Alderaan.
Draco smiled at her when she swatted at his hands playfully. "I'm not trying to be helpful." He wasn't, he was just trying to be near her, to show Faith his softer side, the one he reserved for her and her only. When she finished ordering food, he sat, kissing her bare shoulder for a moment, aligning his thoughts before he spoke again, still holding her against him. "Faith, I have something to ask." He wasn't somber, he was anxious for her answer, "How do you see me fitting into your life? I won't be a secret forever, no matter how hard we try, and I don't want to die your dark secret you can't tell anyone about. I will see to it I will become something you can love openly, but even then, I will be a warrior, a hunter. I'm never going to be a karyai'riduur, just some prince to sit at court." His warmth breath, exhaled through his nose caressed her shoulder as he nuzzled against her neck. He could give her love and affection, comfort when she would let him, but what did she need from him.
