- All Standard Features.
- Extremely Advanced ECM Package: This ship boasts extremely advanced electronic countermeasures capable of causing a large amount of problems for the targeting and guidance systems of enemy vessels and missiles. Only the most powerful ECCM packages can counteract their effects.
- Distributed Advanced Cybersecurity AI: Distributed in various nodes across the entire vessel so that there is no “core” to disable, the Bulwark class hosts a powerful advanced cybersecurity AI system capable of dealing with all but the most advanced and quick hacking attempts on the vessel effectively, and giving even the latter a run for its money.
- Integrated Point Defense AI: Much like the Cybersecurity AI, the point defense guns have AI individually integrated into them, making it extremely time consuming to disable each and every gun and enabling them to continue firing even if their crews have fled to safer locations or are dead.
- Integrated Targeting AI: Much like the point defense guns, each individual weapon has its own integrated targeting AI so that even if the crew is killed or has fled, the batteries can continue firing on autofire mode.
- Distributed Firing Control: Many of the reasons why weapons systems may stop firing is damage to their energy conduits, this ship has been designed to allow these to operate more independently with numerous emergency batteries and backups, making it much harder to disable them fully.
- Heavy Blast Doors: This ship is equipped with a large amount of heavy blast doors that quickly seal in the event of a detected hull breach. This ensures maximum crew survivability in the event that the armor and shields are penetrated.
- Reinforced Bulkheads: This ship features heavily reinforced bulkheads that help the ship to maintain its structural integrity even when severely damaged and all other systems have failed. It helps keep the ship together even when effectively destroyed in combat, allowing for possible recovery and salvage of the vessel later.
- Heavy Armor: This ship features extremely heavy and durable armor layers capable of weathering extensive damage.
- Armored Weapon Mounts: The weapon mounts of each and every gun on the ship is reinforced with additional armor, making them more difficult to disable or destroy.
- Hardened Molecular Shields: The molecular shields of this vessel are extremely tough and have been particularly hardened against ion cannon fire.
- Hardened Subsystems: The subsystems of this ship have been hardened against ion cannon fire, making them resilient against being disabled.
- Automated Repair Crews: A large amount of repair droids reside on this ship, divided into emergency response crews that automatically respond to any damaged areas to attempt to fix them or seal them off to protect the crew.
- Reinforced Primary Operations Center: The bridge of this vessel is heavily reinforced with the highest quality armor and transparisteel available, capable of surviving even multiple direct hits and allowing its command staff to continue the fight.
- Secondary Operations Center: This vessel is equipped with a secondary operations center deep within the center of the vessel, should the first one be taken out of the fight.
- Shielded Cargo Holds: The cargo holds of this vessel are shielded to prevent damage to their contents during battle.
- Shielded Berthings: The crew quarters for visitors and the regular complement of navy and army soldiers are shielded to prevent damage during battle.
- Exceptionally Survivable: The Bulwark is an exceptionally durable vessel capable of taking an extensive pounding before going down, and it has a wide variety of measures to keep its crew alive and to keep it fighting until the bitter end. Few commanders will have the opportunity to say they took down a Bulwark, and fewer still will be able to say they did it without outnumbering it by a significant margin.
- No One's Ever Really Gone: Even if the Bulwark takes extremely heavy damage knocking it out of the fight, it is often still recoverable after the battle thanks to its reinforced bulkheads which generally keep the overall spine and core structure of the ship intact. It will not look pretty and it will take significant repair work to bring it back to operational status, but that beats the cost of building an entirely new ship by far by cash strapped Imperial remnant forces.
- Low Starfighter Count For Its Size: The Bulwark's chief weakness is its somewhat disappointing starfighter count, a necessary concession in order to prioritize other defensive systems. This gives it a relatively weak starfighter offensive capability relative to its size.
- Limited Rear Firepower: The Bulwark shares the same general weakness of most Star Destroyers with its triangle shape, its firepower is chiefly concentrated towards its front and its sides. It only has point defense guns at its rear, making it hard for it to respond to capital class threats from behind until it is able to maneuver around.
Description
The Bulwark Class Star Destroyer, produced by Bastion Holdings, is a new type of Star Destroyer that fits the spirit of the Imperial remnant age. A concession to the fact that the funding for capital ships has become much harder to come by, it focuses on efficiency and defense at the costs of offensive firepower and starfighters, a clear deviation from normal Imperial ship doctrine. It is heavily integrated with AI systems to reduce the crew complement necessary to run the ship, and has powerful shields, armor, defensive subsystems, and excellent structural integrity, making it hard to take down and making it even harder to stay permanently down as it can be salvaged for refit even after taking the most vicious of beatings.
On a tactical level, a Bulwark or a few Bulwarks serve as an excellent core of any fleet design, able to soak up ridiculous amounts of firepower and allow the more fragile and agile smaller vessels and carriers to take shelter behind its powerful form. It is recommended to supplement it with escort carriers to make up for its lackluster offensive starfighter capabilities and well-armed corvettes, cruisers, or frigates to help bolster its otherwise average (but still impressive, given it’s a star destroyer) firepower and catch up to smaller vessels. It can also host up to approximately 10,000 infantry and their associated walkers and support vehicles, meaning it is capable of launching and supporting planetary invasions on its own, albeit with a reduced amount of air support power in exchange for safely delivering and being able to support its troops effectively with orbital bombardments.
