OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To create a modular vehicle bay for use on starships and groundside installations
  • Image Source: Here and here.
  • Canon Link: N/A.
  • Permissions: N/A.
  • Primary Source: 'Can'gal Morut' Modular Hangar.
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Ramp: The bay features a ramp to load and unload vehicles on platforms where the vehicle bay is close enough to the ground.
  • Tractor/Pressor beam emitter(s) w/ Magnet Crane backup: Vehicles can be moved from storage to the hangar and back via the tractor/pressor beam, or from the turbolift back into storage or the maintenance bay, or vice versa.
  • Hangar Connection: The bay and the hangar are connected via hallway or turbolift depending on the platform in question.
  • Deployment Bay w/ Ramp: On platforms where the vehicle bay is not located close to the surface, a separate deployment bay with turbolift access to the main bay is installed in addition.
  • Repair/Re-arm/Maintenance Station(s)
    • 'Iu'yaniyasa Ga'napr' Automated Modular Foundry integration: Spare parts are manufactured by the automated foundry system and send to each station in advance, though parts can also be manufactured and dispatched on demand, though this will take time.
    • 'Iu'yaniyasa Larda' Automated Ammunition Handling System integration: Ammunition for vehicles stored in the bay is sent on demand by automation ammunition handling system. It is stored in each station till it is loaded onto the craft.
    • 4x MCD-01 Gar'gotabor Maintenance/Construction Droid: Each station is attended to by four Gar'gotabor droids who can be programmed with the schematics of whatever vehicles are usually stored in the bay. They attend to repairs, maintenance and re-arming of the craft either autonomously or under the supervision of an organic or droid crew member.
  • Life Support and Atmospheric Containment:
    • Mounting platform's life support system: The modular hangar can make use of the mounting platform's life support systems (usually) without any modifications.
    • Redundant 'Btare Ar' Life Support System: In the event that the mounting platform doesn't have any life support systems, or they've become compromised, the system
    • Magnetic field with backup.
    • Automatically sealing blast door with manual override.
  • Security:
    • 'Morut'yc' Security System: The hangar features its own security system to make infiltration/boarding of the mounting platform via it's vehicle bay as difficult as is possible.
  • Cargo Handling Systems:
STRENGTHS
  • Resilient: Built to last, the vehicle bay lives up to its namesake, literally serving as a stronghold for vehicles to take refuge in. It's construction allows to resist a wide variety of damage sources found both and off the battlefield.
  • Secure: With an advanced security system and automated turrets, each vehicle bay is well protected against a variety of different threats.
  • High Degree of Automation: The high degree of automation reduces crew requirements and fatigue, freeing up crew for more critical tasks.
WEAKNESSES
  • Situationally Useful: Vehicle bays are only useful in ground engagements. At other times, they represent a potential egress and sabotage avenue that the enemy might make use of.
  • High Degree of Automation: While freeing up the crew's attention for more critical tasks, the high degree of automation means that there's a lot of Ion/EMP vulnerable equipment in the vehicle bay.
  • Convenient Entry: The connection between the hangar and the vehicle bay does mean that boarding parties that manage to enter via the hangar will have another important location close by, and vice versa.
DESCRIPTION
"Convenient."
-Strill Securities Colonel Ruus Kote Ruus Kote on the modular vehicle bay as his command tank is loaded.
Like the Can'gal and Me'sen morut, the Jayeritr morut was designed to streamline manufacturing instead of utilizing purpose designed vehicle bays for every single vessel. The scalability of the bay however means that the hangar is far from a 'one size fits all' module shoved in with little care for the requirements of the host vessel. The Jayeritr has the same set of baseline features as the Can'gal morut, which it quite closely resembles. A dedicated security system, backup life support, defenses as well as vehicle repair, re-armament and maintenance bays for vehicles round out the features.
Particular care was paid to the integration into various designs. Given that the majority of ships usually use dropships to deploy their ground contingents rather than land and deploy vehicles themselves, the bay has various means with which to connect to a vessel's hangar. Though so as not to prevent a ship from deploying vehicles themselves, the design integrates a ramp, or should the location where the bay is mounted within the vessel be too far from the ground, a deployment bay connected via turbolift to the vehicle bay can be integrated, from where the vehicles can be deployed.
The real issue with the bay, however, is that it's accessibility to both the ground and a ship or installation's hangar also makes it more convenient for boarding parties, infiltrators and saboteurs, giving them both another method of entry as well as easier access to the hangar from the bay or vice versa. The increased automation that alleviates crew stress also means that there are a lot of EMP/Ion vulnerable equipment in the vehicle bay. The company however, views the extra vigilance as a small price to pay for the convenience, utility and additional efficiency.
