OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To create a modular hangar for use in installations and ships of varying tonnages by Breshig War Forge Consolidated, Strill Securities and select others.
  • Image Source: Here, here and here.
  • Canon Link: N/A.
  • Permissions: N/A.
  • Primary Source: Hangar.
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Launch and Retrieval Systems
    • Precision tractor beam projector(s): Precision tractor beam projectors allow tractor assisted recovery of fighters, as well as the easier capture of fleeing vessels.
    • Catapult pressor beam projector(s): Catapult pressor beam launchers allow for increased launch velocity of craft. This also increases the launch rate of craft, by allowing craft to clear the hangar faster.
    • Retractable engine blast shield(s): Allows fighter craft to launch with their engines on full without causing damage to anything behind the fighters' drive.
    • Retractable emergency crash net(s): When tractor recovery is not possible, proving to be ineffective, a crash net can be erected to arrest an incoming craft's momentum.
  • Cargo Handling Systems:
  • Starfighter Repair/Re-arm/Maintenance Station(s)
    • 'Iu'yaniyasa Ga'napr' Automated Modular Foundry integration: Spare parts are manufactured by the automated foundry system and send to each station in advance, though parts can also be manufactured and dispatched on demand, though this will take time.
    • 'Iu'yaniyasa Larda' Automated Ammunition Handling System integration: Ammunition for craft stored in the hangar is sent on demand by automation ammunition handling system. It is stored in each station till it is loaded onto the craft.
    • 4x MCD-01 Gar'gotabor Maintenance/Construction Droid: Each station is attended to by four Gar'gotabor droids who can be programmed with the schematics of whatever craft are usually stored in the hangar. They attend to repairs, maintenance and re-arming of the craft either autonomously or under the supervision of an organic or droid crew member.
  • Life Support and Atmospheric Containment:
    • Mounting platform's life support system: The modular hangar can make use of the mounting platform's life support systems (usually) without any modifications.
    • Redundant 'Btare Ar' Life Support System: In the event that the mounting platform doesn't have any life support systems, or they've become compromised, the system
    • Magnetic field with backup.
    • Automatically sealing blast door with manual override.
  • Security:
    • 'Morut'yc' Security System: The hangar features its own security system to make infiltration/boarding of the mounting platform via it's hangar as difficult as is possible.
    • 'Araniik' Point-Defense System emplacement(s): Araniik emplacements are utilized to decrease the likelihood of unauthorized landing or boarding attempts.
  • Multi-level Design (larger installations and ships): Larger ships and installations feature a multi-level design, with storage and maintenance on a lower level, and re-armament/repair and launching systems on the 'main deck'.
STRENGTHS
  • Resilient: Built to last, the hangar lives up to it's namesake, literally serving as a stronghold for craft to take refuge in. It's construction allows to resist a wide variety of damage sources found both and off the battlefield.
  • Secure: With an advanced security system and point-defense turrets, each hangar is well protected against a variety of different threats.
  • High Degree of Automation: The high degree of automation reduces crew requirements and fatigue, freeing up crew for more critical tasks.
WEAKNESSES
  • It's a Hangar: The hangar itself offers no direct offensive or defensive benefit to the mounting platform, instead relying on any craft that might be housed within.
  • Close the Blast Doors: Should the hangar's magnetic field and backup fail, then the blast doors will automatically begin the sealing process. In such an event, any craft not already inside will be locked out.
  • High Degree of Automation: While freeing up the crew's attention for more critical tasks, the high degree of automation means that there's a lot of Ion/EMP vulnerable equipment in the hangar.
DESCRIPTION
"The modular approach is the best approach."
-Shuklaar Kyrdol during a speech to newly hired engineers and designers
Part of the process of making the company's production line mobile as a precaution against invasion was streamlining component designs. Hangars, were a widely used component, but there were several designs in use, and many ships and installations had completely bespoke hangars. The Can'gal Morut was designed to be used on all manner of company products, scaled up or down as was needed for that particular application. A baseline set of features was drawn up. On that list was; a dedicated security system, backup life support, defenses, provision for repair, re-armament and maintenance of craft. However, Breshig War Forge put together a group of Strill Securities pilots and a select group of their customers and spoke to them regarding what they saw as an essential part of a hangar, as well as features that they'd like to see in a hangar.
The result was the Can'gal Morut. The hangar makes use of several of the company's other modular, automated systems to automatically keep the hangar stocked with spare parts and ammunition, as well as automatically handle cargo inventory, storage and retrieval with minimal to no crew intervention. Additionally, the company's Araniik system was added to ward off enemy craft. An analysis of the typical egress for hostile forces during boarding actions and assaults showed that a staggering number of cases had the hangar as the entry vector for hostiles. As such, the company's Morut'yc security system was installed. Conversations with hangar crews, however, yielded in the addition of crash nets and provision for tractor beam assisted recovery of returning craft.
The company does warn it's customers to ensure that the various subsystems are not exposed to excess EMP or Ion damage, since given their high level of automation that will likely cause significant and irreparable damage. The second warning is that should the magnetic field and it's backup fail, then the hangar will automatically begin closing the blast door to seal the hangar. While manual override is possible, the hangar will remain unpressurized till the blast door is sealed once more. If sealed, any craft not already inside will be stuck outside till the doors are opened once more, either when the system detects atmosphere or when the manual override is engaged once more.
