SPECIAL FEATURES
- EM Emitter: The probe's EM emitter can be set to emit EM signals to match that of any craft that the host ship/station has a detailed EM scan of.
- Solid-state Holographic Emitter: The probe's holographic emitter can be set to project any craft the size of fifty meters that the host ship/station has a detailed scan of.
- Transponder: The probe can be set to either broadcast the transponder code of the host ship, any of the ships stored aboard it or any other transponder code available.
- IFF Confuser: Alternatively, the probe can activate it's IFF confuser to potentially cause further confusion to the enemy.
- Emergency Shut-off: The probe can shut off the transponder, EM emitter and holographic emitter all at once fast enough to enough to cause weapons locked onto any combination of those signatures to lose their lock.
- Self-destruct: The probes can be set to self-destruct, which when done in close proximity to enemy craft is capable of causing significant damage to starfighter sized targets.
STRENGTHS
- Perfect Decoy: Both by observing friendly craft as well as drawing on its ability to emit EM signals and project a holographic image of whatever craft it is acting as a decoy for.
- EWAR: The Electronic Countermeasure suite allows the probe to act as a mobile electronic warfare platform.
- Secure, Jam Resistant Comms: The probe's comms suite allows for a secure, jam resistant connection to it at almost all times. This also allows ita remote operated virtually without any interruptions or disruptions.
- Mobile Sensor Platform: When connected to the same battlenet as platforms equipped with the Manda tactical battlenet, it can act as mobile sensor platform, extending the sensor reach of all ships in the battlenet.
WEAKNESSES
- Unarmed: The probe is entirely unarmed, and is useless for mimicking attack runs. While following craft performing an attack run or masquerading as a ship, this is likely to give it away.
- It's a Hologram: Up-close, the slight 'flicker' of a hologram as the probe moves at starfighter speeds is a telltale sign that the decoy is in fact a decoy.
- Proximity: Close enough and the EM emitter's deception will be revealed, allowing a hostile craft's sensors to pick up the proble's signature such that it would likely be able to lock onto the probe itself.
- EMP/Ion: EMP and Ion weapons, provided they can cause enough damage to bypass the probe's defenses, are likely to cause irreparable damage.
DESCRIPTION
The Jahaatir was designed to alleviate the pressure on often outnumbered Strill Securities ships by giving the enemy something else to shoot at. When development started, the company found that they could very easily install their Ga'yusr electronic countermeasure suite on the probe, allowing it to perform the role of a mobile electronic warfare platform and with the aid of the Manda battlenet, a mobile sensor platform as well. Rather than rely on a 'standard' holographic projector, the company elected to use a solid-state projector for a more convincing decoy, which when paired with an EM emitter designed to emit the precise EM signature of whatever craft it's acting as a decoy for, the Jahaatir can prove to be quite an effective decoy. To sell the lie, the probe can be set to either broadcast the transponder code of the host ship, any ship stored aboard it, or any other code available.
The probe features an advanced, auto-negotiating, frequency hopping communications system with a self-modulating encryption key. This allows it to stay connected to the host ship for instructions or even remote control even in the face of heavy enemy jamming. It's high-resolution sensor suite allows it to reduce the effects of sensor jamming on other ships connected to the same Manda battlenet as the probe, further increasing its utility.
The probe's mimetic processor allows it to more easily mimic the flight patterns of the ship it is acting as a decoy for, however, up close the slight flicker of it's holographic disguise will reveal it's true nature. Additionally, once an enemy craft is close enough, the deception of the EM emitter will be revealed, allowing said craft's sensor suite to pick the probe's signature such that it would likely be able to lock onto the probe itself. The probe is also unarmed, meaning that while it can follow craft in on an attack run in a similar flight pattern, it can't fire, likely revealing which craft are the decoys and which are not. Though unarmed, the probe does possess a self-destruct charge, allowing it to detonate itself close to enemy starfighters to potentially wreak havoc among enemy formations.
Like with all of its technology, Breshig War Forge Consolidated has taken great pains to ensure that the probe is well protected against EMP and Ion weapons, however, provided they can cause enough damage to bypass those measures, the damage done to the sensitive electronic equipment will likely be irreparable.
