Discussion Be the change - A new faction perhaps?

Look, this is what some of the people who posted up want to see on the board for factions. If people want something blue then gather those who want it blue and do it. Different strokes for different folks, not everyone is going to agree or be interested, and that is STILL okay. Not everyone has to like the same idea or whatever.

I honestly don't know what writing news blogs would have to do with what particularly interesting faction people want to be formed, unless its a news factions. And I'm pretty positive anybody can hop into any MF discord and ask "hey, I'm out of the loop can I get the low down". I believe some of their stories and timelines ARE on their discord and if not just ask.

There's clearly a handful of ideas of what others want to see for a faction and I'm sure anybody who is reading and following this thread will hopefully band together and be like "lets do this" because they find one of the idea or potential story here interesting. if you don't like it or agree with it, then its okay you don't have to be part of that beginning. Cause that may not interest you now, probably later. Who knows.

Go forth, reach out and form that idea, write! Make something out of this nothing and legit like its in the title: "Be the change"

Otherwise all this is, is blowing ideas over and going in a circle again and we'll be back here in this conversation in a month or so

BE THE POSITIVE CHANGE YOU WANT TO SEE
Go forth, reach out and form that idea, write! Make something out of this nothing and legit like its in the title: "Be the change"

This is the only take I've gotten from any of the recent threads that bears repeating. The board can invite change without yucking on other peoples yum and the thinly veiled insults that have been going around. We are all human beings. If you (the royal you, not anyone specific) feel your salty little gremlin coming out to play do us all a favor and lock it back in the closet. Salt is not productive. We've been through this and the "It's just the way I am" does NOT fly anymore.

It's a choice to incite negativity. Do you guys know why members of the community don't put themselves out there?

It's because they see other people who do getting shot full of holes for their flavor of Jedi, Sith, Mando, or the "thread type" getting them harassed or made fun of from a distance. I've seen factions avoid socials for the better part orf six months just to avoid being on the chopping block. Change the behavior - And that will go a long way toward success and fresh ideas.

Now am I referring to regular ribbing? No, not at all. We banter (roast me bby), and that's fine...But why does everyone think almost every suggestion/question thread this week has started with: "Please guys, I just want to ask a question, no salt"? That's really sad.

I can't run a faction, and NO ONE has come to me with any board "event" ideas in recent months (years) whatsoever outside of "I want one" but that's not quite enough. As cool as I am - I can't and won't run them alone.

Faction Ideas:

Slicers w/Cyberpunk Aesthetic: We are missing crime/bounty RP in a big way. Does anyone remember Darkwire? Some kind of "guild" approach where a group of corportions come together to form an alliance. (Think Amazon, Lockheed, SpaceX all coming together in a...Tenuous partnership).

Jedi/Rebel Faction: More UN Peacekeepers where they're specifically designed to keep galactic wars from starting (which often lands them right in the hot seat), but it could be founded by the refugees of the recent wars that have happened. Look no further than Humbarine or Brosi - Lots of wholesale death to work with.

Instead of more "Empire/Governental" styled groups, we could try organizations around different philosophies like "Children of Nihil" (referring to Darth Nihilus) or lean on more esoteric ideas like a faction full of criminals wanting to be "forgiven" for their crimes.

Something not so black and white?

Board Event: If we can get enough volunteers, we could try and pick up where the SWRP timeline left off and gear toward creating a new one. A galaxy-wide threat? Some sort of ominous problem that would affect every faction, like the Gulag Plague, to spice things up? I'm thinking of something that becomes the "gift" that keeps on giving, offering tension and whatnot both forward-facing and from the background. Some of the best stories I remember were the ones that provided content LONG after that arc finished. (Ex. Endgame, Mirial, etc.)

Ala would dearly love more allies in building a bigger, brighter future for the Jedi Order. The Jedi Schism plotline in THR has real potential for Jedi-type Jedi, and warhawk Jedi to debate and have all sorts of fun friction. I am open to ideas and cooperation to make this work.

While this might be a far reaching idea and not very relevant given that Major Factions have basically infinite resources. But what about a Tibanna Shortage that is currently affecting the Chaos Galaxy given the rise and fall of so many galactic governments in a short timespan.

The supply is therefore growing increasingly thin as factions begin hoarding their remaining gas and begin targeting other factions for their supplies. This would still allow factions to create a struggle with actual stakes involved since they can't launch an invasion fleet or patrol their territory without a source of fuel leading to internal problems.

It could also spawn a drive to create new gas types within the factory to boost engagement.

A Galactic Tibanna Shortage would be a neat event in my opinion.

I was sincerely not trying to start any salt with my discussion thread earlier. I just wanted to see if anybody else felt a weird vibe on the forum like I did. :( I'm sorry

Collaboration is key. But in my little experience, not everyone (especially the majors) are open to collaborate. Their schedules are too full for months in advance, and there's just no room for new ideas with people outside of their factions, or new people trying to fit in within them. This is just from my own experiences. Of course it could be that all of my ideas are horrible and they are all just pushing them aside in order to try to be nice. I don't know. I just know that the majors don't work for me. But that's just me! Everyone else is different.

Someone hinted at rebellions even within the "good guys" territory, which is a good idea. It's not all springtime and roses, and not all of their territory was gained "cleanly". So that'd be interesting! But it's not everyone's cup of tea, of course!

And not everyone is on discord either. For some (like me), the only information that they get is through the forum itself. But that's if someone has the time to scour through the whole thing, ha ha!

Thank you, but no one needs to apologize. It is a general reminder given how swiftly people get heated OR lost in echo chambers.

This is definitely along the lines of what I was thinking^^

Board events are the MOST fun in my opinion (SGHW) but are also executed best when its grassroots instead of staff-led (SGHW). I say this with ZERO hate to the hard work that staff does, and also stuff like Netherworld Crisis, the Netherworld map (that existed for a bit) and now Planetshift DO have impacts on the board. But hope its not a hot take that when everyone is vibing on the same wavelength and collaborating to create a whole overarching story, that's when everything is at its peak in my experience.

It's not a hot take, but there are some very opposite opinions in the community.

We have:

"Staff please run this."

Or

"Staff don't touch this."

It's fairly polarizing, but to be honest, I'm fine with either - As long as we can stop putting people down in the process. Being staff shouldn't preclude us from being able to help push an event any more than being a member should. It's a group effort in whatever capacity it needs to be. Whether that stems from advertising using featured threads, helping with UC Cred, or hexes, or participating narratively.

Exclusion is the enemy of us all.

Criminal and rebel factions are the top two I'd like to see most.

Criminals are great and in an ideal world, maybe a major faction that is a big hegemony of different syndicates and cartels with their own criminal specific events and consistent storylines would be great ground to cover. It would be far from a small undertaking, however, and as someone not in a space to run factions, I acknowledge it as a pipedream. The underworld is a fun scene sadly drowned out by the main focus of the Star Wars IP, understandably.

A true rebellion faction would be a lot of fun and open itself to some more unique stories that would fundamentally change the dynamics of the current Chaos. In saying so, it is reliant on there being no current good/light factions up as majors. I've seen a share of rebel factions floating around from time to time and while interesting, it does sometimes feel a bit questionable when there's a big good/light major next door. I'm not as active as I used to be, I can't speak on how the HR works and what their reach IC is, but with two big Sith factions up at the moment I'm sure rebel cells or HR cells operating in distant parts of the galaxy could no doubt work.

Smeagol is free
This is what I want to see. So to streamline what I'm reading in terms of ideas if anyone is lurking and want to take this and run with it:

  • Rebel Alliance faction (Foundation comes to mind with rebelling against the goodguys suggestion - that was fun while it lasted - I'd really like to see this again)
  • Fel Empire (without the salt stigma)
  • Underworld faction (criminal/Cyberpunk/etc)
  • External threat faction (Nihil/Vong/Brotherhood of the Maw/Bryn'adul vibes)

THEN (and I like this)

Board Event: If we can get enough volunteers, we could try and pick up where the SWRP timeline left off and gear toward creating a new one. A galaxy-wide threat? Some sort of ominous problem that would affect every faction, like the Gulag Plague, to spice things up? Let's start brainstorming Chaos. I'd like us to help Staff with this cause this sounds fun. So post here if you are SERIOUS in helping with it. Cause I am, cause I want this. Credit Wizard Credit Wizard proposed a Tibanna Gas shortage - this is a neat start. The Gas can be swapped out for Plasma/Bacta/etc. Let's hear ideas and volunteers please and let's make this a reality.

(And someone take one of the faction ideas I listed and do something serious with it please I beg you we need it)

My two credits worth is that "I want to see this type of faction, please make it" doesn't work. There needs to be an organic interest and a good core working team to develop it, grow it, and drive it. The recent Rebel Alliance faction started on a perceived groundswell of rebel interest but didn't really take off, probably because it didn't evolve organically, and the loudest driving force behind drumming up interest completely flaked out on it at a speed that was impressive, even for them. I chalk it up to a lesson learned but I'd hate to see someone put a lot of time and effort ntto spinning their wheels for something that seems to be built by consensus which people won't end up supporting because it was built by w committee that isn't going to do the writing within it.

By all means if you feel passionately about something, make it happen.
