Skirmish Battle of Chaldea (NJO, GA, others)

Chaldea
Alicio Organa Alicio Organa - Jogerda of Chaldea

Amani could barely even dwell on the shock of seeing Fergus fully decapitated by her attack. So many things happened at once, suddenly there was little reason to think about anything other than making sure they got out safe.

Amani spun around to see Alicio still in close quarters with the Mystic, and ran to try and intervene. Around them, everything went up in flames. She could feel the heat chasing up her back, threatening to consume them if it got any closer. Once in range, she drew her pistol at Tony, "It's over!" Amani declared. In the event that Alicio couldn't subdue him, or the Mystic didn't give up, she would fire at his center mass. But only if she had a clear shot.

The Count made the decision to sacrifice his hand—and Tony saw after the fact that the limb was artificial anyway, as the circuitry within sparked around the dagger—but before he could counterattack, the Mystic found himself suddenly in unbearable pain.

His best friend got decapitated, the world was ending around him, everything was on fire… and yet he was the one who got the indignity of being defeated by a knee to the groin.

The Jedi was shouting at him. Gasping for breath, he looked up to see her holding a gun pointed at him. “Just shoot me,” he wailed, curled up in a ball.

At any rate, they were all about to die anyway. The dragons were coming back for another round.

Beneath the darkened sky, as dragons ravaged the city with their fiery wrath. It was a nice e view of the tragic scene.

With a mischievous glint in his eyes, Aziraphale loosened and then released his grip on Ko in mid-air for a few heart-stopping moments, allowing the padawan to experience the full terror of the situation, and to truely hammer home that helpless feeling. The wind howled around them, amplifying the sense of vulnerability as plummeted, suspended above the chaos. It was a calculated move, designed to evoke a response, to teach Ko a lesson in humility amidst the chaos.

But just as panic threatened to overwhelm Ko, Aziraphale's strong grip caught Ko in his arms and tightened. This time Ko was being carried as if he were a damsel in distress. As Aziraphale's grip tightened he with a swift swoop descended upon the open loading bay of an Imperial ship. The vessel, in the midst of departure preparations, hummed with energy as its engines roared to life. Aziraphale's landing was both dramatic and precise, as he gently set Ko down on his feet, treating him with unexpected tenderness.

As the dust settled and the ship's engines drowned out the sounds of battle, Aziraphale placed a firm pat on Ko's back, a gesture that held a mix of reassurance and camaraderie. A low chuckle escaped his lips, a wicked amusement dancing in his eyes. The unsettling laughter filled the air, echoing with a sense of triumph and an undeniable playfulness.

Without a word, Aziraphale turned away from Ko, striding purposefully towards the interior of the ship. His laughter gradually subsided, leaving behind an terrifyingly queer presence. The dark-winged assassin had fulfilled his part in both terrifying and saving Ko, leaving him to find his own path, albeit aboard an imperial vessel.

As the man walked away his wings and horns faded and melded down, his height shrinking until he looked like any normal human man…

“Attention, attention!” Alastair bellowed over over the command channel. “Everyone, drop what you are doing, to the dropships, now! A new threat has entered the battlefield, and we’re getting the hell out of here! Move it soldiers!”

The words of the commander were punctuated by fire.

A nearby building was set ablaze by a dragon flying overhead as it ascended back up into the sky. On reflex, Ivixa brought up her rifle, lowered onto a knee, and took aim at the soaring reptilian beast. Then, with her breath suspended within her lungs, the tiny sniper squeezed the trigger, once, twice, then thrice as the dragon continued to ascend. Through her scope, she saw that chunks of hide had been blown off by her armor-piercing bullets, but none had made it through to its innards. Immediately, Ivixa continued to sprint towards the evac zone, but then, she looked up once more.

The dragon was doubling back, flying directly towards her. She would have only one shot to save her life.

Once more lowering down to a knee, Ivixa took aim at the dragon, setting her crosshairs over one of its eyes. She squeezed the trigger just as fire began to form within its maw, the bullet punching cleanly through the dragon’s eye before continuing on to blow open its brain. From there, Ivixa immediately launched into a sprint, before willing her armor’s repulsors to carry her further forward with a burst of acceleration as the dragon slammed into the area where Ivixa had been kneeling only seconds before, a fiery explosion erupting on impact to the fire that was already in its throat. Activating her energy shield on instinct, Ivixa felt a wave of heat wash over her as the shockwave bloomed outward, but otherwise, she had emerged unscathed.

With a deep breath, Ivixa deactivated her energy shield and turned to glance back at the now-charred form of the dragon. Then, she continued towards the evac point, finding herself as the very last to climb into one of the leading shuttles before it took off.

“This is Rominaria Seven, I’m clear, over.” Ivixa said over comms, before lowering herself into a seat within the passenger bay. It was only then—as the shuttle rocked with the turbulence from the air—that she looked over to find the white-haired form of the commander, his eyes closed in contemplation.

Soon, Ivixa found herself doing the same.

Final Post.

Calabiyau, Chaldea
- Amani Serys Amani Serys - Arlo Renard Arlo Renard - Open
It seemed like forever ago that Alicio had welcomed Kai out of prison with a pizza party in an abandoned warehouse. When they'd sparred back then, Alicio had learned a rather valuable lesson.

With innocent people counting on you, there was no room to fight fair.

Pushing a newly-incapacitated Tony off of him, Alicio gasped once, before collecting his lightsaber from where he'd dropped it, and taking in the scene before him. Not Amani, with a blaster pulled on a doubled-over mystic, but the dragons swooping overhead, raining fire on the refugees. It was...

Horror. Nothing short of horror.

Wasting not a moment, Alicio stepped forward, bashing the barely-conscious Mystic's face with his boot, knocking the man out cold. Then, he looked to Amani with genuine, unconcealed fear.
"We need to get these people out, now." Transports were coming down now, hulking, cargo ships landing in strips covered in slag and rubble, but they were being harried by the scaled creatures.

He turned to his left, as if to tell Kai to start shuttling people to the transports, then suddenly realizing that his bodyguard had been absent since the fighting had begun.

<Kai? Kai, can you hear me? Dragons are attacking the people! We need to help them onto the ships!> His mental voice was soft, strained, as the Force slowly returned to him. But his failing senses didn't keep him from rushing towards a group of people, jumping and kicking a dragon's jaw out of the way before it could devour a family, his lightsaber igniting in his hand once more.

"Move!," he shouted behind him, before squaring up with a beast of myth and legend.

Covered in blood, Kai wandered the streets in a daze. Chaldea was burning around him, yet he could do nothing to stop it—and with how badly he’d screwed things up thus far, it was probably for the best he didn’t try anything else.

<Kai? Kai, can you hear me? Dragons are attacking the people! We need to help them onto the ships!>

Alicio’s message made him want to crawl into a hole and die. But despite everything, he still wanted to please the Count. To make him proud. The paralyzing sense of helplessness gave way to a surge of renewed purpose. He might not have been able to save his homeworld, but he could save some of the people.

Heading back to the cathedral, he found it in flames. Alicio wasn’t hard to spot—nor was the dragon he was currently facing down. Kai ran out in front of him. No doubt the Sithspawn looked psychotic, wide-eyed, dark with blood, and carrying an ancient sword that thrummed with a strange energy.

<Stop!> he screamed into the dragon’s mind.

The command was laced with power… and it did precisely nothing to stop its intended target. It seemed that the dragons had given up on the Bamarri after he slew their leader. The beast opened its maw, and Kai saw flames billowing up from deep in its throat. Without a second thought, he flung himself over top of Alicio as the fire engulfed them.

Just shoot me,

Amani just looked at the defeated man sadly, and lowered her pistol, "Haven't enough of your people died already?" He was then promptly knocked unconscious by Alicio, bringing their attention to the last and greatest threat. The dragons were coming back around, threatening to incinerate anything that fell into their path. And they seemed to have no intention of stopping until it had all been scoured by inferno. The transports still trying to escape, very much included.

"We will," Time was not on their side, though. A dragon was already attacking the courtyard, threatening a family and everyone else still running away. Alicio was foolhardy enough to attack the beast head-on, which unsurprisingly sent his wife into a panic. She rushed in after him, the two of them facing down the legendary drake as it prepared for another attack. The jedi let the Force fully channel through her once more, now that the Mystic's inference was gone. It began to coalesce, amplifying so much that the energy began to take a visible form; The Force itself swirling around her forearms and palms in preparation for a mighty attack. But in that most crucial of moments, Kai leapt forth into the gout of flame, "No!" Amani released her Force burst, the raw cosmic energies rippling forth to strike the dragon at the base of its neck.

Calabiyau, Chaldea

Alicio was tired of being the one in distress.

Always first to fall for the trap, to be deceived, to need rescuing. Too trusting for his own good, too weak to protect those who needed it, too eager to jump into the fire. Quite literally, this time.

He could taste Amani's anxiety behind him, as the world slowly began to grow vibrant with the Force once more, and his exhaustion was remembered. The sensible part of him knew that he couldn't take a dragon head-on, despite his experience with similar creatures. But every other part of him was willed forward, from his selfless need to save those behind him, to his selfish need to prove himself.

A warning from the Future. A flash of destiny laid itself before him. Kai, jumping to his aid, acting as a shield, burnt and broken...

No. That future wouldn't do.

As Kai lept for him, Alicio darted forward, assisted by the Force, intentionally away from Kai's protective gesture, and towards the maw of the beast. The skin of his organic hand, already burnt by frost, began to crack and flake away, as Alicio called upon the Force once more. The great beast spat flame, and Alicio snuffed it before it could reach him, stealing the heat from the very air around them, chapping his lips and robbing the feeling from his fingertips.

Alicio had to take a knee afterward, bleeding heavily from cracks across his body, but he found a grim smile regardless.

For once, he was the one doing the saving.

Not only were the flames neutralized by Alicio’s cryokinesis, the dragon itself was frozen stiff. Then, as Amani’s Burst struck its neck, the beast’s upper body shattered into chunks of ice and cold meat.

Seeing Alicio’s injuries, Kai rushed to his side. <Can you stand? We have to go now!>

Another dragon landed on the roof of the cathedral, howling at the death of its kin, and blew fire into the courtyard. The dragon’s breath came hurtling toward them, and Kai once again put himself between it and the now wounded Count.

This time, destiny was not thwarted. Kai felt the scorching heat upon his back, the molten rage of Chaldea itself. Unlike Jogerda, he didn’t glean some new understanding in the end. All his thoughts were on protecting his liege, his friend.

There was a flash of light, brief and easy to miss amid the flames. When the fire died down, Kai was already gone.

Untitled776_20230702232455.png

Even the mighty dragon could not withstand the combined attack of Amani and Alicio. It’s body was frozen by the Count’s cryokinetic touch, then shatter by the sheer kinetic force of the Jedi’s burst. Amani immediately looked to check on Alicio and Kai. They needed to get out, now.

But Fate would not be denied.

Another dragon landed above them, and Amani felt her heart sank. She remembered the prophecy Kai had told her all that time ago. The one that ended in his death. And this cruel intervention silently confirmed its truth. Like the universe itself conspired to ensure that it was unavoidable. Kai fulfilled his duties as the royal bodyguard one final time, before being overtaken by the flames.

Amani was struck by a metaphysical pain, enough to make her stumble on her feet. After all Alicio had done, Destiny mocked his efforts, and stole from him a dear friend. And Amani too felt anguish. Insult. Anger, even. Like she had failed her former student. She gripped her saber pike, and threw it at the dragon maw like a Holy Lance, propelled by all the preternatural speed the Force could grant it. A rocket, one that would smite the agent of fate from the inside.

Alicio's frost not only completely consumed the dragon's flame, but also it's body, as Alicio reached deep into the creature's life essence, and pulled. Amani's blast of energy afterward was enough to completely chunk it. There was a brief flash of victory on the Count's face- he'd done it!

Then why did he still feel dread? The pull of the current of destiny?

It was made obvious, as another dragon landed, and before a winded, shivering, injured Alicio could pull the same trick to cast away the fire, Kai was gone.

Not disappeared. Not missing. Not out of sight. Completely and totally gone.

Alicio didn't, couldn't, register what it meant in time, staring blankly at where the Bamarri had been, his eyes slowly widening with the realization. Amani was quick to strike back at the creature that had done it, but Alicio could only kneel there, useless, unable to process the chaos around him.

"No..." he murmured, entirely gripped by the cold.

<If there is a Will, that means nothing that you do really matters. The fate of the galaxy is already decided, and no law that you write or battle you fight can change it.>

There was a Will, and it had killed Kai Bamarri. And there was nothing Alicio could do about it.
