Admiral Quee paced the walkway of the Champion, idly glancing down to check on the working bridge crew below. It wasn't that he didn't trust most of the officers or enlisted that ran the ship, it was habit. On many of his first commands, he was not only the commander, but a trainer as well. Sometimes a green soldier would make a mistake that the blonde man could easily correct. But the Obi-Wan didn't have any truly green crewmembers. Everyone on his ship had served in the Republic Defense Forces for a minimum of two years, and most had to compete against their peers to get their positions on the admiral's flagship. It bred a certain camraderie that they were almost an elite group within the navy, even if official viewpoint on that matter was silent. A voice called out from behind him, causing the man to spin about on his heel to face the newcomer, who stood at attention.

"Sir, everyone is in position," informed Captain Hep, the ship's duros commander.

Gir nodded and waved a hand to dismiss the military formalities, "As you were, let's begin the maneuvers. Hopefully we can figure out any chinks in the base's construction below and fix them before the Sith inevitably attack..."

As he talked, his "Blue Fleet" swung around in orbit to face off with their attackers, actually Republic warships under the command of [member="Dallen Thayne"], another republic officer. The simulated invasion of Carida began.

Objective: "Invade" Carida

"Inform the TaskForce to move into their assigned positions Lieutenant Vanquo. Helm, bring us forward alongside the Unbreachable please, move us up along the Y-Axis by three units as well, Vanquo tell the Veltraa to do the same but dive down instead. Relay that formation to the other battlegroups." Hands clasped behind his back, Commander Thayne walked along the bridge of his command vessel and flagship, the Hammerhead Cruiser Testament. Today they would be engaging in mock battle against the Grand Admiral of the Republic, and he did not want his TaskForce to disappoint.

A finger tapped his wrist as he passed over the sensor suite and stared over his bridge officer's shoulder to stare at the blips representing his fleet and that belonging to Admiral Quee. His forces consisted of a trio of Carriers, Cruisers, and Corvettes, alongside double the number of Light Cruisers. Each were splitting off into three groups in a conventional, though effective, formation. A Dreadnought Class Heavy Cruiser sat between a pair of smaller Hammerhead Cruisers, a Utopia Corvette swung around the front of the groups, and a Metallos Carrier Frigate brought up the rear.

Each of the three groups were a distance away from Blue Fleet who was playing the role of planetary defense, deploying their fighter screens in the final stages of battle prep. "Tell Captains Meloy and Teroch to begin moving their battlegroups forward and begin long ranged bombardment. That is the advantage we have over the Admiral's fleet. Target his flagship the Kenobi, the Champion class is the biggest and slowest vessel he has. It will be the easiest to hit at this distance, better to not waste time and energy on his frigates and support craft that can evade. Have them keep the Dreadnoughts up front and sweep so that they will come around Blue Fleet's flanks. We'll take our group right toward their center and catch them in a net while keeping our own units spread out to avoid concentrated fire."

Pushing up his glasses, the Commander looked over the instrument board once more as he continued considering his attack strategy. "Perhaps attacking without official warning is a bit cheap, but the Admiral does have the ion cannon and planetary shield on his side. Normally I would also protest the unfairness of the invader role being aware of the planet's major defenses, but they were displayed at the Battle of Carida, plus we shall treat it as I believe the Republic is a competent military who would have an intelligence agent acquire such information for us as well before beginning a conquest. . . . . .order all fighter squadrons to deploy, six forming a fighter screen ahead of each battlegroup for intercept maneuvers. Then patch me through to the Jedi and Strike Teams."

Pacing back to the center of the bridge, the Republic Commander took a moment to wipe his glasses before the transmission went through, smiling as he addressed the Jedi aboard the dropships in the hanger bays while putting his glasses back on. "Master Jedi! The TaskForce is beginning their assault for the simulation. As you know Carida is one of such worlds properly equipped with planetary defenses, including a shield and ion cannon. Because of this landing troops en masse is rather problematic. However, the shield is a shutter type, which both means it can open holes for the Ion Cannon to fire through the gaps, as well as provide an opportunity for a few dropships to slip through. I am ordering your dropships out to slip through the shield once the Admiral drops a section to fire the Ion Cannon, I will be using one of our cruisers to bait it out for you. We will be deploying you with nine (9) dropships worth of soldiers, along with a walker and two heavy vehicles to support your strike teams. We encourage you to launch assaults on the Ion Cannon and Shield Generator so we can land the rest of the ground teams and our heavy artillery for the assault on the Academy. . . .I have no doubt the Admiral has stationed the Jedi participating on his side at those locations as well. We'll make sure you reach the gap in the shield unharmed so you can get to your parts down below. Unless you have any questions Master Jedis, I only have left to say: May the Force be With You."

The two humanoids stood at the edge of the Obi-Wan Kenobi's bridge viewport, watching the vessels of Blue Fleet scramble to enter a formation. Bolts of long-range turbolaser fire from Scarlet Fleet began to smack into the ship's bow shields, causing portions of it to briefly flare up under enemy fire. The drill was supposed to simulate a surprise attack, and to that end, Gir had kept his vessels spaced out in no particular formation. A fact he was almost wistfully beginning to regret as they formed up into a cohesive group.

"It's taking longer than expected to get everyone into position," noted Hep.

"One of the reasons why we run these simulations," mused Gir, "at least we'll have better practice at it when the actual attack comes."

A voice called up from the crewpit, "Sapphire Two and Three are in jamming positions now. One and Four should oriented shortly to join them."

"Begin jamming their dreadnaughts," ordered Gir, "I doubt we'll stop all of their long-range fire from hitting us, but we can at least lessen its effectiveness."

Seconds after he spoke, the jamming arrays on his picket ships began to shift their focus on the Chancellor and Outer Rim Defender. A minute later, Sapphire One had its array solidly locked onto the Unbreachable as Sapphire Four shifted its jamming onto the Testament. But even as the jamming started, the long-range weapons of Blue Fleet began to respond in kind. The Tyrvald-class Pulse Turbolasers of the Arendal and Obi-Wan Kenobi joined the long-range turbolasers on the Indefatigable, Remembrance, and the Arendal on focusing their firepower on the Chancellor. Even so, by pure firepower alone, the effective turbolaser power of Scarlet Fleet nearly outnumbered Blue Fleet's by a factor of two. But not all of Blue Fleet's long-range firepower was set in turbolasers. Slow-firing but long-range mass driver cannons, energy torpedoes, and plasma energy torpedoes from the Arendal and Obi-Wan joined the brilliant turbolaser fire in lashing out at the Chancellor.

"They're launching fighters," noted Hep dryly.

Gir glanced at his wrist chrono, "We're at an acceptable amount of time that it would take to get everyone to their ships...Flight Control, release the fighters."

Even as the man spoke, the starships of Blue Fleet moved forward to engage their counterparts in Scarlet Fleet. He glanced at his datapad. Their concentrated fire is really taxing the Obi-Wan's shields, but with the jammers in place, we should be able to get some respite enough to get our shields back up to snuff until we close range....He glanced down at a holo-tank manned by the ship's Flight controllers. While most of the starfighters of Blue Fleet began to surge forward to engage the starfighters of the Scarlet Fleet, a wing of Scurrg Bombers backed by a squadron of Galaxy Guards were moving to make a run on the Sojourn.

The scent of sagebrush assaulted and then seduced his nostrils as the desert heat beat down on the large man as he slowly walked up the stone-lined pathway towards the famous "Cliffside" portion of the academy. He spared a brief glance downwards, wondering how many peoples had tread these pathways over the thousands of years that the Academy had been open. How many soldiers had sweat while running down these paths while training for battle? Had they fought for the old Empire, the old Republic, or the new one which had been reeling under constant assault from the One Sith?

The man shook his head, turning his eyes up past the towering buildings of the base to look up into orange-reddish sky above. He knew that somewhere up there, thousands of people were engaging in a mock battle in the starships above. But while they were fighting thousands of kilometers away, they were fighting ostensbily for the very ground upon which he tread. It seemed a curious thing to the man, that people would fight light years away from their homeworlds to protect a world and people that they never would truly know. Not that he couldn't appreciate their loyalty to the Republic or the tenets which that government espoused. He passed by the gigantic barrel of some anti-orbital weapon that doubtlessly would be fired on the invaders if their larger ships got too close.

But as he did so, he felt something unusual. The man closed his eyes and began to concentrate. His will and thoughts flowed out of his body blend in with the nature around him, probing for that glimpse of the presence upon which he felt. Finally, he found it, but it was not one presence. There were dozens of presences, and all of them were hundreds of meters beneath his feet. Ravenna blinked. Part of the base must be hidden underground...

Solan sat back in the chair of his stealth ship, watching the fleets blast at eachother as he smiled and thought to himself. For him this would be the chance he would need to give the jedi some real practice against the darkside without their losing their lives or him losing his. He would smile though as he leaned forward and thought about what would come of this simulation. He had the unique opportunity to do as he already thought but to do so in a way where he did not have to hold back. Where he could fight to the last breath without dying. But for him that did not make the fight real. No they would have to treat this as the real thing and he made damn sure to prepare like it was.

He wore the same as he always did, carried the same as he always did. First the Viola Coat, an old garment from his days with the Rebel Alliance, not that he ran with them much anymore but he rather did like the Trench coat so he though he should use it. Next came what was lined on the inside of that coat. Those were two sets of items, first the saber that was held in his sleeve. He hid it for two reasons. First as a surprise up his sleeve quite literally that could be deployed with a gentile flick of the force. The second reason being his mean weapon was on his back. The second item though that was kept within his coat was that of twelve daggers, lining the inside and ready for use the moment he needed to. At his waist was several napalm grenades and more importantly a pair of old dueling pistols. Lastly though on his back resided a Krath War blade, a weapon that had been found and restored so that he could use it in battle.

He was just waiting for the right time, waiting for the moment when the others would pierce through the shields and he would follow in.

"We're invaders?"

The small Nautolan's head turned up toward the Chandrila countess, who had just finished going over what they were supposed to be doing on this mission... training... invading... thing. Even after she'd repeated it twice, it still didn't make much sense to him.

"But... But Carida's a 'Public world, so... so..." the youngling began, starting and stopping his sentence as his train of thought began to form, and then was quickly de-railed by another in the sporadic cacophony of ideas vying for notice in the head of a kid with all of a two-second attention span.

They were Republic.

This was a Republic world.

So if they were invading, then...

The child's head came up a moment later, as the lightbulb lit up over his head. "...so does that make us bad guys?"

This was suddenly the best idea ever.

Hopping to his feet, the boy looked at his master and blurted out, "Oh, I wanna be Darth Antagonous!" Because bad guy. All the bad guys had Darth names, didn't they? "He... Darth Antagonous, he's, like, this bad guy who... he's this Sith, and Jono Jawa has to fight him to, like, save the galaxy an' stuff."

Jono Jawa, as the countess was likely tired of hearing about, was the boy's favorite holo-cartoon. And comic book. And merchandising.

It was probably the brainchild of a Hutt getting rich off the credits of all the parents who'd had to fork over a portion of their paychecks every Fete Week for some new modeled plastic bit that was the latest Jono Jawa toy.

As if to make a point, the Nautolan youngling rummaged through the backpack he'd brought with him. He'd packed a sandwich, half a fizzyglug, and of course he had to bring some toys with him.

This was Carida! He needed something to keep him entertained between Ossus and here.

Finally, the child produced a black figure with a fabric cape and cowl. "See, this is him."

Commander Thayne watched Blue Fleet mill about as they tried to move into position to maintain a proper formation, the Admiral was reacting calmly, but slowly too, perhaps a product of the crews or merely due to the fact the ships had been out of place and now had to move around one another to take their spots. After the battle maybe he would recommend to the Admiral they should write up protocols for what formations a fleet should be in when simply at dock even if it wouldn't be the same one used in an actual battle, to ease the movement into it. Still, they reacted cleanly enough, Dallen supposed he would give the Admiral credit for acting so aptly. Especially when his officer at the sensor suite was quick to announce that their targeting systems were being thrown off.

At the same time, the head of Scarlet Fleet tried not to laugh as he overheard the young Nautolan's remarks from the comm channel since he had only just spoken to them and not switched off yet. "Well we are the bad guys right now, but only so we can make the good guys here stronger. We're both the Republic, so you could say we're making our friends stronger by playing bad guys for them." Smiling for a moment, the Commander had his end of the conversation muted so his next orders to his crew didn't bother the Jedi waiting for the dropships go ahead. "Their jamming isn't a concern, take the last known accurate firing trajectories and run an algorithm for that and relay them to the gunners manually. If they hit the computers then we won't rely on them. Their long range missile fire isn't a threat either, lock the flak and point defense cannons on their signatures and shoot them down. At this range they can't have too many launchers that can hit accurately, they shouldn't be overwhelmed."

The calls of incoming fighter Squadrons, however, were of concern. Even as Scarlet Fleet's Turbolaser fire corrected and began becoming more accurate once more, seeing Blue Fleet's Fighter Screen move to intercept them was an irritation. After all, Blue Fleet did have around seven more squadrons on hand to throw at them, but there was an advantage to the Grand Admiral coming to them in this regard. "Have the Utopia's sweep in front of our battlegroups and have our fighter screens make intercept courses. . . . . .why are those units off course from the others. . . .comm two of our Interceptor Squadrons along that flank, have them peel and target those, they're moving on a different trajectory than the others, this may be a feint for a strafing run, make sure the Utopia with that side makes a pass over them too."

Everything was in play now and it would be now the first advantages were determined. However, to keep things safe and in his favor perhaps, Scarlet Fleet's Commander did have some ideas. "Lieutenant Vanquo order the fleet to halt position just outside standard turbolaser range. We'll still have the edge in long range fire and the Admiral will have to make a choice. Move position again to approach us and come into range for his other ships, or attempt to exchange fire at this range as he is currently doing." And hopefully get him to use that ion cannon to give him support and let the Jedi strike teams through the shield. . . . .

Summary
Chancellor shields at 54%
Fleet corrects targeting systems against the jamming manually
Utopia Corvettes sweep behind Starfighter Screen on Intercept with Blue Fleet's Squadrons
2 Narra Interceptor Squadrons move to engage the Bombers, a Utopia to make a pass
Scarlet Fleet halts beyond standard turbolaser range

The standard ArmaTech activation protocol could be heard echoing from the five hundred Venan Guard soldiers he had brought with him to the exercise. Those were the entirety of the Shadow Guard and half of the Personal Guard. All of them were outfitted with an ACS-004 Olympian Battle Armor and an ACS-205 Advanced Dual Weapon System, the rest of the Personal Guard and the entire Home Guard were outfitted with what amounted to high quality blasters and slug throwers, and so didn't need specific practice with the weapons. The dual weapon system that ArmaTech had sold him was something that Arthur hadn't seen before. He'd heard of similar devices, but the one set aside for him in front of him was the first dual weapon system he'd held. He and his troops had practiced with them on ranges and zeroed them in, gone through the training that ArmaTech sent along with the shipment until everyone could at the very least do field repairs, only a few of the soldiers had qualified for full maintenance on them.

Arthur's own armor was a little different. He was strapped into the ACS-004 Immortal Battle Armor, though for the moment the same proprietary activation sequence sounded off from his suit as he finished his preparations. All of the guard units were in the colors of Vena, blue and gold, with the Venan Shield emblazoned on one shoulder, a stylized swan in gold on a blue field bordered in gold. His troops were not meant to skulk, hide or commit subterfuge in this armor. This was the armor they used to squash the enemy, so they were fully blazoned and visible.

With a glance, Arthur could see his soldiers were all ready, all they required was an enemy to fight.

Well, this was going to be an interesting time, she thought as she meditated in a small park near the military academy on Carida. The Republic was staging a war game here to simulate an invasion, while also developing brand new defenses for the world. She had volunteered to head up some of the ground defenses, so around the park were arrayed several divisions of Republic soldiers.

Garbed in a suit of armor she had developed and that had seen action on Odacer-Faistin, she had a the outer robe of the traditional Jedi robes on over top of it. On her belt hung her lightsaber, within her right bracer was the hidden blade she brought with her from her time as the Sith Assassin quartermaster, and her second shoto lightsaber was hidden in the back holster.

The soldiers under her command had initially been suspicious of her as she had been immediately honest that she had been a Sith Lady, but they had warmed up to her when she explained her thinking for using this park as their staging ground. It was in relatively narrow approach to the academy and would give them a large, clear area to deploy AA turrets, along with anti-personal turrets. Everything was set to stun of course, they didn't want to hurt their comrades that formed the opposing team.

She could feel Solan above, and she hoped they might actually get a friendly duel in. The only time they had fought was very briefly when she had been a Sith Knight as she fought against Roman Sin. That felt like an age ago.

Still, this was going to be a very interesting time. She wondered how well the others would fare in the defense of the area. It would all depend on how many enemies got past Admiral Quee's fleet forces.

Yep, I've been here before.

The Republic had given him a battalion plus to work with, and so far, Alen Na'Varro thought they met the minimum standard. Barely. Morale and esprit de corps were rather low throughout the units and sub-units he had been given, which he put down to a lack of culture in the ranks. As a result, standards and drills were ... lower than what he was used to. That was something he could work on, if he was allowed to that is. For now, he'd play with the assets that he'd been given. They were ample for the task at hand.

Essentially, he'd split his force into three combat teams, and dug them in at key positions. Combat Team Alpha held the main bridge over the river. The "enemy" would need it in order to facilitate high speed maneouvre and supply at a Divisional level. Hence, they'd have to take it, making it one of their main objectives at the Divisional level. Thus, Na'Varro assigned priority of fire support to Alpha, ABFs for his tanks and LAVs in key locations, and positioned his GBAD within range to defend their position. Alpha was the main effort. Bravo held the enemy's least likely avenue of approach to the West, at a smaller crossing point that could only facilitate Brigade level support and movement. Charlie defended in depth, with his artillery positions to the rear. His close air support was on standby. That was essentially the layout of his defence.

As for Na'Varro, he had given detailed orders with actions on for a multitude of eventualities. That left him the opportunity to get into a scrap of a more physical nature. Once the battle started, responsibility would naturally progress down the chain of command until it was just his platoon commanders making the calls, as was what happened with most battles.

He was ready to stretch his legs, and his lightsaber.

Nef had explained the deal to her favorite Nautolan twice. And now he was on about the holotoon he loved so much. Sure, she herself had obsessed over Hello Cathar...in fact, there was a themed throw blanket in her closet back on Ossus.

Hopefully the old phrase "Third time's the charm" would apply here

"Zak, we are not real bad guys. This is basically a live training simulation. We are simply playing the role of invaders. That is why every lightsaber is set in low power, and all the blasters are set for stun."
Zak wanted to grow up to be a Jedi Guardian. A path Nefertari had walked, but a title she had never officially taken up. To this day, she still used the title "Jedi Knight" or "Countess of Rosedge"
"Even guardians need to keep their skills sharp."
Then there was his comment about having a "Darth" name. The Nautolan's master couldn't tell if he meant for playing a role such as this, or if he meant for real. If it was the latter, she had to shut that down right now.

Nef knelt to her padawan's level and put her hand on his shoulder
"Zak, I know the Sith in the holotoons are portrayed as sinister geniuses. However, that is not a group you want to be involved with; trust me. The dark side is not a pleasant thing, I can tell you that from experience. Besides, you are too sweet of a child for the Sith. If I had to guess now, I would say you are shaping up to be a fine guardian."
The Jedi doubted Zak had watched her entry on the subject of the dark side in the great holocron, but this was a serious topic.
"Be that as it may... I suppose we can play Sith for this exercise. Let's get out there and show them that nobody messes with this duo! ^_^ "

And where would this little tyke be without his toys? Nef thought when Zak took an action figure from his backpack.
The dropship was nearing the surface. Hopefully her apprentice understood that this was a practice invasion, and that they weren't actual bad guys.

By some coincidence, the Countess had painted her training saber to look like her sister Miyuki's first lightsaber; which had been inspired by the firebrand hilt of the New Jedi Order. Funny that they were playing Sith if that had happened.

What Nef had told Zak about the dark side was true. Hopefully the little Nautolan would never see Nefertari at her worst. She didn't want to scar him for life.

Solan smiled, his hands curling around the controls of his ship as he watched the others push towards the atmosphere. "Suit up and load out, were heading in and taking out these slime." He smiled, so he was playing his ole and he was kind of enjoying the thrill of seeing how well these new republic leaders would do. It had been years since he had gotten the chance to fight beside the Republic. The last time he had been much lighter than he was now, maybe even considered lightsided but now. Oh now he was nothing of the sort and he could not wait to deal with these ones.

His voice rang through the hall to the hold where his men were. "OK Legionnaires. This is the one and only time im going to say this. This is a simulation but for anyone that 'dies' im going to be docking your pay two weeks. Maybe three if you guys don't take some people with you when you do go down." He was joking, they knew it. But his own thoughts came to his own goal. He could sense the lives of all those that were there to take part, he would have to be careful as this was no computer simulation but still real and his weaponry wasn't normally something to stun. No instead his blade had been outfitted with a dampener and same with his daggers that would mean he would have to be careful about how he struck.

It wouldn't be long till they hit the battle field now but when they did the dark tendrils that made up his aura already began to expand and curl around him, smiling as they would be used soon. He would need them to inspire the fear that normally came with battle, without them he would be fighting with a massive handicap.

Admiral Quee watched as Scarlet Fleet's fire briefly slackened as the Erebus arrays befuddled their sensors. Electronic warfare was something that the Mandalorians had taken the lead in, but Gir was determined that the Republic Navy too would learn to how fight with it, and how to fight against it. He glanced towards a crewman in the crewpit below was sole job it was to record and analyze Scarlet Fleet's coping mechanisms against the Erebus array. Such information would likely prove useful for improving the Erebus's performance in the future, and in countering any electronic warfare devices they might encounter in the future. He was somewhat dubious as to how well firing on old and partially compromised sensor data would be when his ships were moving at such relativistic speeds, but it was certainly worth the study.

Weapons fire surged back and forth between the two fleets. Since some of Scarlet Fleet's fire would likely be off from the jamming arrays, the Obi-Wan shield's weren't as likely to fall down as much as they had earlier, and at such great distances between their fleets, it might even recover a little. He paced over and looked down at one of the weapon's chief.

"How's our missile fire doing?"

"Well, our energy torpedoes are far faster than most warheads even if they are unguided," said the man, "and with their sensors jammed, their point defenses aren't likely to be getting very good fixes, but they seem to be having some unnatural luck with that. We're firing in coordinated salvos now in order overwhelm them."

"We'll better at closer ranges. Let's break off into squadrons before we engage the overdrives," stated the Admiral.

Even as Blue Fleet charged, it diverged into two separate groups of ships. With its overdrive engines engaged, the Obi-Wan Kenobi was faster than some cruisers, including both the smaller Remembrance and the Indefatigable. The only other large cruiser in Blue Fleet that could keep pace was the Arendal, but this was in keeping with the strategy of the Charter Line of vessels. They were designed to be unusually fast and maneuverable in order to get their Tyrvald-class Pulse Turbolasers into better and more effective range quickly. The Obi-Wan Kenobi and Arendal surged forward in a more right-hand hook towards Scarlet Fleet while the slower Remembrance and Indefatigable led Besh Squadron in a more direct attack with a slight left-hand slant towards their opponent. Cresh Squadron composed of the carrier frigates, hung back from the fray as they attempted to physically shield the arrival of the Academy's starfighter squadrons from Scarlet Fleet's knowledge.

As the Blue Fleet starfighters neared their opponents, flight controllers on the Obi-Wan refined their plans, delegating all of the R45 Quicksilver-class interceptors to escort the bombers towards their target. The newly arrived Academy squadrons, a wing of Rendili Starfighters and Freefall-class Bombers, seventy-two starfighters in all, prepared to enter in the battlefield as the second wave of Blue Fleet's assault. On the ground at the Academy, weapons crews began to aim their weapons, including a massive ion cannon, towards the sky towards likely vectors that elements of Scarlet Fleet would take to land their troops.

Blue Fleet was on the move. . . . .and Commander Thayne couldn't be happier.

"You just can't do that Admiral, you left yourself way too open." Oh the Republic Commander of Scarlet Fleet was quite aware of the advantages Blue Fleet had in firepower and point defense, along with the advantage of the Ion Cannon and other planetary Defenses. However, he was also quite aware of how to deal with them all in one fell swoop as he watched the sensor display and coordinated appropriately. "The Admiral's squadrons have broken formation to break off an escort for the bombers, send all fighters into the breach now and break through their line! You just can't Admiral, you sent those fighters to mine and mine are in a fighter screen, I won't let pass an opening in your ranks, we're too close together for you to have time to close the gap. . . . .get on it Vanquo have Green Squadron blow through them! Have the Interceptors keep after their bombers and cut them off with the Utopia, the Courier and them can cut off their forward momentum even if their fighters reach their bombers in time and our interceptors will be right behind them!"

Yes indeed, Thayne intended for his remaining Interceptors and Bombers to blow open the gap the Admiral's interceptors left and take a chunk of the fighter attack out before they closed ranks and chase on to follow the escort the Admiral sent to his bombers that left that opening. It wasn't the only gap the Scarlet Fleet's leader intended to take advantage of either. Admiral Quee had split his forces up into three groups and now it was time to punish him for it. "Helm! Bring us around and Comms I want the Unbreachable and Veltraa doing the same, keep our remaining fighters in their defensive screen on the enemy and our Utopia backing them up. Turn us on the Grand Admiral's new course, keep his carrier frigates between us and the planet as well so their Ion Cannon will have a harder time pinning us. Order the Chancellor's battlegroup to cut a tight turn on their trajectory, have them try and bring their fronts to face the Admiral to reduce their profiles, and order all ships to target the Adrenal."

By making the Dreadnaught Heavy Cruiser, a ship much thinner than it was long, a smaller target, hopefully it would reduce damage on the ship by a good margin, and by switching fire to the Adrenal they could wipe out a heavy cruiser of the Admiral's own. Plus by putting the Unbreachable and the rest of its group between the Impregnable and Redoubt class cruisers line of fire, they would intercept those attacks as well. this was also why the Commander switched fire to the Adrenal, as it blocked the Champion from his group's main guns and he'd rather focus fire between his two groups on that than split between it and the Champion.

"Reach out to the Outer Rim Defender and its escorts, have them cut their trajectory and come between us the that new group, have their guns target the Redoubt class cruiser the Admiral has trailing behind." The Admiral's original position was quite unfavorable to the movement he had pulled, those cruisers had to have gotten stuck moving slowly around the Admiral when his destroyer moved right of his fleet's starting position. On the other hand Scarlet Fleet already in motion could have its flanking group sweep in to join the Commander's group in the center, and the more lightly armed and armored Redoubt was on the edge of that side and more open to attack. The batteries along the side of the Dreadnaughts could hit it with the Quads and still use the other side to target the Adrenal once in position, while also moving the two groups of Commander Thayne's into one and he fully intended to utilize his fleet's closeness to better effect than the Admiral had.

Only one thing was crossing his mind though. His dropships and landing craft were apparently making their move since the shields over the planet had been dropped, but no Ion Cannon fire had been detected yet. . . . . .so what opened space for them to get through? "Direct scanners towards the planet and warn the dropships to keep to cloud cover as long as possible to avoid enemy defenses, I don't trust this stroke of good fortune. Keep everyone on alert." His eyes flashed behind his glasses as reports came in on the progress of their maneuvers and the enemy's tactics. "Commander, the enemy's missile fire is coming in fresh, they're concentrating their salvos now." Well there wasn't anything much to do about that, by bringing two of his groups together maybe their point defense weaponry could overlap more to take out the warheads more effectively, though the isolated group would have to rely on its own defenses for the time being.

And if one was to wonder about the missiles before not having much effect, in theory it would be because as a physical object they came into close range themselves to a target which would negate the effect of long range targeting systems being scrambled as point defense are very short ranged, not to mention defense weaponry such as that with different protocols would undoubtedly not have the same diagnostic concerns the main weapons would and run under a different program system, and lastly by not being fired in concentrated salvos before their fewer numbers over time would not leave the defense systems as hard pressed to target them all fast enough, a concentrated salvo all at once might though unless more defense systems overlap. The Commander didn't even think about this at this time as it had nothing to do with the current state of affairs.

...besides, you are too sweet of a child for the Sith.

That comment from his master caused the boy's head to snap up. His large eyes narrowed as he looked up at the Chandrila noble. He was not a sweet child, he was a Jedi Knight!

...well, not like now. But someday, when he was older.

Also, a starfighter pilot. Because [member="Lugus Porkins"] made that look like a fun job. And fighter pilots were kind of their own brand of cool. And some Jedi were even starfighter pilots -- and they were Jedi Guardians, too. It was a match made in heaven.

And maybe a firefighter. Zak had seen a holo-documentary on Onderon firefighters, and it had been really, really cool. So maybe he'd be a firefighter when he grew up. They didn't have lightsabers, but they did all kinds of really cool stuff just by helping people and keeping people safe.

But right now he was neither Jedi, nor fighter pilot, nor firefighter. He was Darth Antagonous! Lord of the... something something something Dark Side!

Wait... did Sith have masters? Were there really Sith kids? "Master, do... do, Sith have, like, padawans an' stuff?" the boy asked curiously, as he waited for the dropship to arrive at the ground. He'd be following Master Nef's lead once they arrived at their destination, as this was his first time in this kind of situation. Attahox and Cyrillia had been entirely different.

Just how did someone go about attacking a planet? It was a planet!

"Doesn't look great," Jacen whispered to the other scout, as he lowered his macrobinoculars. They'd spent the last thirty minutes rolling out cable to remote their kit from the scout vehicle and find a position to observe the enemy. The walk back was going to be longer.

The armoured infantry battalion had thought to cross these bridges before the enemy fortified them, breakout and defend the area to prevent artillery ruining their day. LAATs dominated the infantry transport game now, with most infantry units being airborne, but sometimes it paid to come in low and quiet in armoured vehicles and surprise the enemy. So much for that plan. Crossing a bridge was a tricky business for the walkers and other vehicles that didn't use repulsors. It could take a long time, and Jacen guessed even longer for this force. He'd been a captain in a mercenary outfit during most of the war. A tight knit group forced of exceptional soldiers. The Republic army, by comparison, was children. It literally seemed that way to him, there were far too many eighteen year olds around. The Yuuzhan Vong had cut down far too many so far.

Voidstalker merely watched as the scout relayed his report down the wired comm unit. No point finding an exceptional vantage point and then transmitting to give yourself away. The enemy was well placed, which meant there would be significant artillery in the distance, waiting to hit the crossing point. A mere captain before, generals didn't waste much breath on his rank. Jacen supposed he was getting a lesson firsthand from the renowned general, and his new Master today. Would have been more pleasant to be on the sidelines for the lesson of course. In the nice warm office where a group of colonels would be settling down with sandwiches and watching a holo show of the mock invasion, accurate down to each soldier. Jacen had taken part in blue on blue exercises before, but never on this scale. Instead he'd been given control of a support company. At least he could apply his Jedi skills to scouting, he supposed. Cold and wet already, he returned to the HQ.

"Voidstalker, we're dismounting B Company. You're going to go with them, taking anti armour missiles, a recon section and some engineers. You're going to cross the river under dark on repulsor sleds. Identify potential places for mounting temporary bridges, repulsor vehicle crossing and aerial landing points. If conditions are favourable we'll mount a false offensive on the secondary bridge, before hitting the main whilst you surprise their lines. We'll need to breakthrough fast, and form a bridgehead, so we'll need to locate any batteries," lieutenant colonel cragsoon explained.

"Shouldn't we be waiting for more armour or airborne support?"

"Close air support isn't in position, armour is moving to our position now. Airborne infantry have already engaged. I won't wait and let Na'Varro dictate tempo unless I have to."

Looked like it was time for a night time amphibious manoeuvre. Time to fetch the black paint.

Location: Champion-class Star Destroyer Obi-Wan Kenobi
Allies: Defenders of Carida
Enemies: [member="Dallen Thayne"]
Objective: "Defend" Carida

As the Obi-Wan Kenobi drifted back to normal operating speeds, Admiral Quee watched as his gambles unfolded. What he planned and what had happened were likely to be always be different: such was the nature of the interpretation of orders by his subordinate commanders and fighting a real opponent. But he was far more interested in how it would play out in the simulation so he knew how to better it for action against their true enemies, the One Sith.

The original goal of the divergence of his capital ships was to envelop Scarlet Fleet in a maneuver that was a cross between the classic Hammer-and-anvil and pincer maneuvers that every officer knew from basic instructions. He had intentionally let the carrier frigates become his weak center as bait, hoping to lure in Scarlet Fleet's heavier warships into range of the ion cannon and the waiting Carida-based starfighters. But it appeared that Scarlet Fleet's commander was either wisely cautious of the bait or he was preoccupied win fighting the other warships of Blue Fleet. He would have to move onto his fallback plans, even as he dealt with the tactics of Scarlalet Fleet.

They're concentrating fire on the Arendal,” noted Hep blandly.

Gir nodded, as he glanced as his sensor data screen, “It looks like the Arendal's taking a slugfest, but we're able to concentrate shields on the port side as well, since they haven't brought anything to attack our starboard sides yet.

Indeed, most of Blue Fleet's ships were concentrating their shield's strength to meet Scarlet Fleet's fire, reinforcing those areas against the penetrating assault of heavy weapons or ion cannons. It did make their sides not facing Scarlet Fleet weaker than normal, but it appeared that for the moment, Scarlet Fleet would not be able to exploit that in their current positions. Doubtlessly, Blue Fleet's shield operators would have to adjust their coverage appropriately if they did move. Gir watched the percentages of the Arendal's shields slip under the heavy assault, and promptly typed in several commands, directing the Arendal to continue its forward movement, letting it uncover the slower Obi-Wan to present its port batteries to Scarlet Fleet. As the Arendal surged forward, the patrol vessels Sapphire Three and Four slipped in around to help screen the heavy cruiser from the incoming fire. Gir guessed that the heavy cruiser would likely have to bring up its back-up shield generators shortly. Still, the Arendal unleashed spurts of weapons fire at the Unbreachable, lashing out at the other ship with an intensity of fire to at least match the other's own. The Arendal's sole Tyrvald-class Pulse turbolaser fired at the other ship's broadside, hoping to use its devastatingly close-range and concentrated punch to batter down the dreadnaught's shields. But even as the Arendal's shields withered under Scarlet Fleet's assault, the newly uncovered Obi-Wan began its own attack against Scarlet Fleet.

Hypervelocity cannons began to charge up even as the Tyrvald-class Pulse Turbolasers began to fire. The star destroyer's ventral port Tyrvald began to fire on the corvette Courier while its dorsal port pulse turbolaser began to target the Chancellor along with the rest of the star destroyer's port weaponry. Half of the ship's assault concussion missile launchers, plasma energy torpedo launchers, mass driver cannons, and on cannons began to saturate the [] with their fire. Even as they did so, the helmsman of the Obi-Wan Kenobi sought to bring the point of the star destroyer to face directly into the center of Scarlet Fleet, allowing all of the ship's awesome weaponry to fire on the enemy fleet. But since the overdrive has just been deactivated, it would take a little time to properly orient the ship to allow it to bring its maximum firepower against Scarlet Fleet.

But the battle was far than the actions of the Arendal and the Obi-Wan and the ship's around. Gir watched as the dreadnaught's began to point their bows at his cruisers. Having such a smaller cross-section would likely enable them to present a stronger defense against his own ships between having a narrower cross-section to hit and the ability to more fully focus their shields. But at the same time, doing so could possibly lessen the number of guns the dreadnaught's would be able to fire on their opponent. On the traditional dreadnaughts from the age of the Clone Wars, nearly forty percent of the ship's guns could be brought to fire in the forward arc. But the original design was superb in that it could bring moderately heavy amounts of firepower to bear in any arc, including its stern, even if couldn't easily focus such firepower on a single target. He could see that Dallen clearly knew how to work that aspect of the Dreadnaught's design, splitting its fire between the Arendal and the Remembrance with at least one of the ships. But while the dreadnaught was able to fire both on both sides of the enemy, the enemy could also fire onto both sides of the dreadnaught, whereas the same would not be true to the ships of Blue fleet.

As the Remembrance slipped past the Outer Rim Defender, it concentrated its shields on the side it was exchanging shots with the the dreadnaught, giving the Blue Fleet ship an edge in handling the heavier weapons fire from that ship. The Remembrance retaliated in like, using its fast-mounted heavy turbolasers and quad warhead launchers to pepper the Outer Rim Defender with coordinated strikes. The slower Indefatigable abruptly dropped its speed even more, allowing it to concentrate its own fire on the Outer Rim Defender. With the Remembrance continuing forward and beginning to arc towards the rear of Scarlet Fleet, the commander of Besh Squadron hoped that by splitting up his section, he would always be able to split the concentration of the Outer Rim Defender's shields. The relatively tiny patrol vessels sought to fill in the gaps between the two larger cruisers, with Sapphire One taking point to the Remembrance and Sapphire Two falling in between the Remembrance and the Indefatigable. Each of the assault corvettes fired on the frigate escorting the Outer Rim Defender.

The starfighter battle became wrapped up into what would normally be an exceptionally deadly furball. As the R-45s turned about to join the bomber formation, many of them became easy prey to the pursuing fighters. But the Scurrg's themselves were not easy targets themselves to approach, lending their own sextet laser cannons and laser cannon turret fire to bear against the pursuing starfighters of Scarlet Fleet. The Carida-based starfighters barreled right behind them, with the wing of Rendili fighters moving in to engage the initial pursuers of Blue Fleet's interceptors, while the wing of Freefall bombers oriented themselves to make a strike on the Utopia-class Corvette that seemed to be positioning itself to head off the initial wave of bombers. If the Utopia concentrated fire on the Scurrg's, it'd likely leave the ship open to easier attack by the Freefalls.

-Obi-Wan Kenobi primarily fires on the Chancellor, and fires one Tyrvald Pulse Turbolaser at the Courier
-Obi-Wan Kenobi shields at 70%
-Obi-Wan Kenobi charges Hypervelocity Cannon batteries

Taeli yawned as she laid down in the grass, the men around her almost equally bored. Honestly, was some sort of action going to reach them anytime soon? They were just building more and more defenses at this point. Auto-turrets, artillery emplacements, small shield generators to protect the artillery, cover for the men to hide behind in a firefight.

Taeli yawned again as she waited, a datapad open in her hand as she read an interesting history file about the world. Apparently, the place had seen far worse days, getting blown up by the Sun Crusher. Whatever tech the galaxy used before the 400 years of darkness to rebuild the world, and other worlds for that matter, was something that interested her in some ways. It would be an amazing piece of terraforming technology, still it had been lost to history.

Maybe Solan would reach her eventually, that would be a fun little duel for them.

Solan smiled and with a salute to his pilot he dropped.

A high altitude low opening jump was how he was going to get into the enemy without worrying too much about charging through them like a moron. He and his squad of soldiers, ten of them made up from the good old Shadow Legion. They would shoot through the air like bullets and coming down near the buildings and he was going to have fun.

IT would take thirty seconds of drop till they made their impact, more than enough to see them coming but not enough to stop them even if they did see them as they turned in the air. Solan himself needed no jet pack, no parachute, granted he had the former to aid him but the largest part was his pushing the air under him to slow him down enough that when he did reach it his knees bent slightly and the Jetpack activated to allow his decent to finish and his body to roll into the ground as he reached it. He would be alone and separated from his soldiers.

That was fine though as he moved to pull off the pack and readjust his weapons and armor. He worked best alone.
