Private An unusual history [Doctor Gill Klam]

Mariah had recently aquired an unusual item. A ring, one who's origin she found herself uncertain about. She wasn't entirely sure what made her so concerned, however, she was regardless. And as a result she and White had run a search over the Holonet for potential researchers on such types of artifacts or unusual trinkets. In this case, doctor-gill-klam. By the name, she assumed it to be the one the Baragwin salesman had mentioned, but there could be a million out there with such a name. Still, if it was them, some good light could potentially be given to her on the actual history of such a piece.

And so she was on her way to meet with said person on a planet she'd actually never been before. As she went, she ensured his systems were functioning properly. Shields and all. Didn't want to risk that this location was infested with pirates or something, or their military was less than friendly. Whatever could happen, she wanted to be ready. She would of course, likely follow protocol, depending on what exactly they made her do.

Mariah learned that the planet was in one of the most secured sectors of the entire galaxy. The Lorenz system was deep in the Tapani sector. This area of space was in a difficult to navigate nebula in the first place. The only hyperspace lanes leading in and out of it were trapped with mines and patrolled by many warships of the local feudal houses and the shipyards of Talaan and Fondor. The people there were xenophobic and snobby, filthy rich and fans of the most modern weapons and high tech available.
The dangers of crazy Sith unleashing monsters or even undead plagues and genocidal alien powers invading and destroying all in their path alike had made the Tapani citizens into paranoid people who guarded their nebula zealously.

So Mariah was not once but three times hailed and boarded at the Tapani border, where thousands of freighters were shipping the coveted ore of the sector out into the warlike galaxy and luxury goods and refugees hoping for a better life into it.

The stormtrooper like armor of the house guards boarding her ship and searching for contraband and scanning for infection or infestations were soon a familiar thing for Mariah.

After that bureaucratic delays she soon could fly to her goal. The university of Mrlst where doctor Gil Klam was registered had told her she was "in the field" and excavating something on the planet Grindera in the Lorenz system.

So Mariah traveled to that location. Soon her ship was in orbit of a dark red planet and hailed by the authorities. The feudal house of Mecetti who ruled Grindera showered her with questions and drowned Mariah in bureaucratic red tape but eventually granted her rights to land and do her buisness.

Given the circumstances, Mariah of course ensured also her droids and drones were prepared should they become necessary. She had a fairly good number on board, so as anyone even capable of actually forcing her to allow boarding, she honestly was somewhat confident in her ability to press a counter-boarding, and take over two ships. However, she would try to avoid such a situation. While she was an outsider and had seemed to have learn of their xenophobic tendencies, she could lean on their desire for modern tech. Her skills with technology were notable, and as a result she had the chance to take advantage of it.

She cooperated with officials, irritating though it became by the third time. She was tempted to push her luck a few times, see if she could find flaws in their scanning methods, but she chose not to. Best not to bother these people. Heavy shields or not, a ship can only take so much. Besides, she wasn't here for a fight. She was here for knowledge.

When she finally arrived she at least got a bit of knowledge on where the good Doctor could be found and followed directions to it. Again, more questions. These people really should get their data just transferred to all of them, might save a lot of time they could spend doing something more useful.

Eventually she was let through and she made her way to try and find Doctor Gill Klam Doctor Gill Klam . Trying to search for comm signals using her ships sensors and communication systems.

Mariah learned that Grinderas immense ore deposits still not depleted after thousands of years of mining were a hindrance for both communication and sensors. The old relays in orbit were the best option to get a satellite link to the enterprising archaeologist who was excavating in some wilderness area east of the settlement Besh. Luckily the scientist has left a comlink number for emergency callings.

"Well, hallooo?", a charming and youthful voice was heard over some static. "Who is calling? If This is about the excavation papers of the University of Reena, they are on their way. Coming any minute! Stop pestering me with such trivialities, I am about to making the finding of the century!"

Mariah continued on her search trying to find the person. This seemed to be quite a quest of itself, just getting to the doctor had become a hassle. However, she did manage to get a response. "Ah well sorry for bothering you," she said, looking at the trinket she'd got, "But I have a discovery, I assume of yours, that I'm rather curious about. A ring. Bought it from a Baragwin and something about it just...concerns me, I suppose is the best way to put that. I'm looking for some insight on its history, I am, of course, willing to pay for your time. Or try and give you some help, though I'm no historian or artifact specialist, I'm more of a tech person."

She waited for a response, continuing to analyze the ring with her eyes. not that she could discern any new amount of information from it.

"Ring? Baragwin... oh, THAT ring! I see..." The doctor seems to know indeed more about that little trinket.

Her amulet and the ring were slowly awakening from their slumber. The force was strong on Grindera and so the mighty artifacts became interested.
The ring even felt a presence it had not felt a while.

"Okay, a fellow tech expert may come handy. Surprisingly sophisticated and still working technology in this forsaken tomb.... LOOK OUT, CRIMSON!"
The noise of explosion and fallings rocks were heart.

"All part of the plan! Relax, Crimson!", the cheerful voice of the archaeologist was again on the comlink. Obviously the excavation had difficulties.
"Were was I? Ah, yes, dear stranger, please come to meet me at these coordinates."

There was a set of coordinates somewhere in the snow blown wastes of the rocky plains riddled with chasms in the red rock. Giant elk-like beast were gathering in herds on the plains and a fierce wind was blowing.
In the chasms themselves surprisingly hot geothermal conditions were favoring lush plant lives and some were large enough to let a small spaceship landing in them.

Indeed, a ship has landed already at the coordinates and a base camp was installed at the bottom of the miles deep chasm. Floodlights and a force field fence were erected at the perimeters.

Mariah smiled as she was sure this was indeed who she needed to speak to. The Doctor did seem to be good with having the technical help, which was followed by explosions. While the words sounds like she was trying to affirm security to someone inside, it felt just a little bit chaotic to Mariah. She was given coordinates and before she shut off the commlink Mariah added, "My name's Mariah by the way. I'll head right over."

As they headed there she had White fly the ship while she picked up her repulsor-board, put on a orestiad-flight-suit, just in case, grabbed her gauntlet and two bar-58-blaster-pistols. One could never be too careful on an unfamiliar world. She'd probably have white stay on the ship. And just bring a couple of swarm-drones with her hooked up to the gauntlet.

She had to have them navigated to another dropsite, because big though the plants may be her ship was fairly large. She got out and set the drones to follow her while she boarded the repulsor board and shot off towards the site. As she neared the forcefield she looked for anyone present as well as tried to see if her comms would work at this range.

A petite woman in cold weather clothing was there in the secured area and was waving wildly. The woman had pink red skin and was obviously a Zeltron by heritage, if somewhat short and slim.

"Hello, Miss Mariah!", she shouted cheerfully. "Over here! I am Doctor Gill Klam, leader of this small excavation. And this is my droid Crimson."

A heavy war machine of ancient design was there too, The body was painted in crimson and a skull emblem was on the chest of the humanoid shape. It was designed after or perhaps even an original droid of Xim the despot. The paint coating was scorched and dented at many places.

The archaeologist was smiling. "How can I help you with the ring?"

A small Zeltron, alright. The voice definitely matched. Mariah smiled and waved back to her. She held the ring in a box as she came closer. Mariah raised an eyebrow at the War Machine however. She somewhat wished she'd brought White with her. The naming choices also was rather amusing. "Glad to meet you. Wish I'd brought White over with me but I left him to guard the ship." she said with a shrug before holding out the ring in case Doctor Gill Klam Doctor Gill Klam wanted to see it.

"Was curious about it's history, and any potential properties it might have. My father had a bit of an unusual job so sometimes he'd find interesting items that had abilities of some kind. This seems the sort of thing to have that as well." She said. She did try to be friendly, but to be fair, she was in a foreign part of space with only a few drones behind her.

"Aaaah, the Red Nova!", the Zeltron recognized the ring. "I see it had found another owner not afraid of the curse the superstitious attribute to the trinket. But it also seems it is too small for your fingers.
Interesting... it was much wider the day I excavated it. I could almost believe the fairy tales how mighty force users were able to unleash fancy powers with it. But these are only stories to frighten children and the gullible."

The war droid said something in an ancient language and activated his many weapon systems.

"Crimson is right. Come better into the perimeter, Miss Mariah. ... FAST!"

Behind Mariah, as if they could feel somehow sense the ring and the amulet of Mariah, dangerous predators were climbing head down in her direction.
Dr. Klam drew a heavy blast pistol and opened fire on the ferocious beasts as did Crimson. The drones of Mariah acted also but somehow their photoreceptors and sensors were strangely obscured by the monsters or the environment.

Clearly it was recognized, made any further answers nice and concise. Also was worth knowing there was a least some truth in what the baragwin had said. Ah, there was the mention of the curse. There was what somewhat confirmation of Mariah's potential concern. Weird to her that anyone would consider something superstitious, given the types of things the universe had in store that were so hard to understand. Not that Mariah specialized in such things, but she knew more than an average person would perhaps.

She almost felt offended by the suggestion that the stories were for children or the gullible. However she didn't have much more time to respond then did they have to rush away as beasts began coming around. Mariah put both feet on the repulsor board allowing her to rise into the air and move back as she pulled out one of her blaster pistols and started firing, Her aim was fairly good, she had received training in the past and had had enough use of it to know what she was doing.

Her drones however seemed to be having trouble. Could be this planet was causing electromagnetic interference of some kind. However, she doubted that was the cause, her drones were more resistant then most against such times of issues. Or it was a more force based problem, that was a possibility indeed. She had heard worlds could have that effect, but if that was the case, why hadn't such issues shown up before. She switched tactics instead. Holstering her pistol and focusing on her gauntlet, manipulating all the droids directly allowing her to bypass the photoreceptor issues and let loose the two repeating laser cannons on each of the drones. Although less accurate, the sheer amount of blaster fire easily made up for that issue. She pulled them closer to her, allowing her a greater intuitive ability to utilize them.

"I can leave, or I can stay. But if they get too close I may have no choice to stay. I'm more a scientist than a fighter. Only alternative is to get my ship or more drones here, but they seem to be experience issues." She said, things weren't too far bad just yet. Animals never really scared her that much, and right now she had a rather easy escape route. Straight upwards. Her board was almost certainly far faster than nearly any beast, so if it came to it, outrunning them wouldn't be a problem.

"Relax, I have all under control", the Zeltron shouted as she shot at the predators. "But you really should not rely too much on your gadgets. In fact there is a countermeasure some old jedi spoil sports had installed in this ancient tomb, you see." She gestured at a monolithic doorway with creepy inscriptions on it. "The more sophisticated high tech is in the vicinity of it the more it will react and.... oh, no, it reacts! Shut down your electronics or they will be fried by the jedi mumbo-jumbo EMP-blast!"

As the archaeologist spoke a blue wave extended from the doorway and washed over them. The force fence stuttered and went. As did the hoverboard of Mariah and many of her high tech gadgets. This should not be possibly because of her state-of-the-art ECCM, but the doctor mentioned "jedi mumbo-jumbo" and with the force all was possible.

"Damned old stage magicians and their dirty tricks! Cheaters!"

Crimson was frozen too. "Just my luck! He will need time to reboot! Hurry! We must go into the doorway of the grave! The critters will not dare to follow us there. Trust me, I am a doctor!"
