Many of them are practical applications and the others some of them are fluff meant to provide redundant systems or protections against some of the more esoteric threats out there from breaches that activate containment shielding and countermeasures to protect the systems of the ships. The consolidation would also see several key systems put together to better improve performance as computer systems like the car'das navigational computer can aid in plotting microjumps and their advanced system for tracking.
