The Galaxy had changed

Not just her friends or family, but everything around them. The Galactic Alliance had fallen, and with it went much of the stability Valery had once been fighting for every day of her life. The rebellions that had risen to strike back against the dark forces now seemed almost silent. Worlds that had once fought openly had been swallowed by fear, exhaustion, or something worse. Even through the cockpit of her X-wing, the Galaxy felt darker than she remembered.

Valery had seen this cycle before. Empires rose, expanded, fractured, and eventually disappeared into history. Some had been willing to negotiate. Others had been ruled by people who saw compromise as weakness and treated entire worlds as possessions. The Sith had certainly left their mark, but they were hardly the only threat the Galaxy had produced. Now another Imperial power had emerged, and Valery knew almost nothing about it.

Her X-wing continued toward Mahporeem as she studied the information available to her. It wasn't much she could work with just yet. Nothing that gave her a clear picture of who truly held power or what they wanted. And she had learned long ago that the best way to learn someone's true intent, was to meet them face-to-face, whether they were friend or foe.

Valery adjusted her course and opened a secure transmission channel as the planet came into view. She didn't want to arrive unannounced, nor did she intend to sneak around and start a fight before she even knew what she was dealing with. Instead, she sent a simple signal ahead of her ship, identifying herself and requesting an audience with whoever represented the Imperial authority on Mahporeem.

She leaned back in her seat, one hand resting near the controls while her eyes remained fixed on the planet ahead. Whatever waited for her down there, she intended to hear them out first. That didn't mean she trusted them.

It simply meant she wanted to understand what had changed.

CAPTAIN RONHAR TANE, TK-3301
CORROX CENTRAL, MAHPOREEM
OBJECTIVE: FRIEND OR FOE?

Valery Noble Valery Noble 's message did cause some fair share of alarm for Corrox Traffic Control.

On one hand, a Jedi traveling to Mahporeem wasn't actually entirely out of the ordinary, even despite the fact that the planet was very much an Imperial controlled one. While the Junkyard Knights of Mahporeem were primarily compromised of ex-Diarchian personnel, the Imperial Remnant could count a few Jedi within their ranks, those who had for one reason or another decided not to join up with the High Republic or simply fade away elsewhere into the deepest reaches of the galaxy. On the other hand, the terrorist attacks perpetrated by the Wild Space Rebellion were still very fresh on the minds of Mahporeem, and even though the Imperial Remnant had chased them off Kessel, they could still very much be a major threat. More than a few Jedi, or at least those who were Force Sensitive, could be counted amongst their ranks, and for the moment, no one was quite sure where Valery Noble Valery Noble stood, though the fact that she had announced herself ahead of time lead credence to the first theory that she was here on her own.

It didn't take long for Corrox Traffic Control to respond to Valery.

"Transmission acknowledged. Your request to land has been granted, and you are cleared for landing at Docking Bay 19. A pair of starfighters will escort you to the landing point. Match your landing trajectory to them and do not attempt to deviated from the given course. Control, out".

A pair of STX-TIEs pulled up on either side of Valery's X-Wing, as a precaution in case she should suddenly turn hostile or try to go somewhere that she was not authorized to go to. Assuming she followed the instructions she was provided with, the STX-TIEs would eventually lead her and her X-Wing to the aforementioned landing site, where Ronhar Tane Ronhar Tane , a single Junkyard Knight and a Junkyard Protocol Droid where waiting down below. Preliminary records about Valery indicated that she had been involved with the now defunct Galactic Alliance, and may have held a position of prominence with them during its existence. If that were true, Valery might be able to convince some of the Jedi still in hiding to support the Imperial cause, whether temporarily or on a more permanent basis.

Whatever the case might be, Ronhar knew one thing for certain: that this meeting was going to be quite an interesting one, assuming of course that Valery wasn't here on behalf of the Wild Space Rebellion!

Having been notified of a rather unusual visitor, the young acting director of Mahporeenian Intelligence had made a point of reviewing the reports personally. Percival sat behind the desk with the arrival notice drawn up across the terminal before him, one hand resting beneath his chin as his pale blue gaze moved over the requested credentials attached to it with considerably more attention than Lieutenant Bridger ought to have given them.

Valery Noble.

For several seconds, he simply stared... Of all the people who might have chosen Mahporeem, she had chosen to come here in person and openly. She was likely alone because she hardly required an escort. Valery Noble was the Sword of the Jedi, former Grandmaster of the now-defunct Galactic Alliance's New Jedi Order, and one of the principal leaders of the Hidden Path.

His fingers tapped against the edge of the desk before he leaned back in his chair as he stared at the name for several long seconds more before quietly exhaling a heavy sigh through his nose. His expression settling into the carefully neutral look expected of Percival Bridger.

"Well… that complicates things... Though not entirely inconvenient." He mused aloud to himself. 'Percival's' goals were starting to come to fruition with the recent developments of Escalation Protocol, there was already a burgeoning crusade into the Core taking shape between the Mahporeem Imperial Remnant and the Iron Covenant. What had begun as cooperation against a mutual Sith enemy was rapidly becoming something more substantial: fleets moving together, soldiers bleeding on the same ground, and governments beginning the far more difficult process of deciding what came after the shooting stopped. This visit could very well prove useful for furthering such goals if Miss Nobles penchant for seeing the Darkside eradicated where it festered.

From Percival's perspective, that was where things became interesting...Wars produced allies quickly. Whether those alliances survived victory was another matter entirely.

The pieces were already there however...

The Odessen Assembly had given the Farworlds Alliance and Iron Covenant reason to begin looking beyond their own borders, while Mahporeem itself had already proven willing to cooperate with otherwise unlikely partners during The Assault on Dromund Kaas, when the threat of the Sith had outweighed whatever suspicion lingered between those involved.

The Farworlds Alliance had since started opening further channels with the United Protectorate of Sovereign Systems, while the Greyman's Accord had at least managed to keep another uncertain relationship from collapsing entirely.

Even so, old injuries remained....

The Wild Space Rebellion fiasco had done little to encourage Mahporeenian confidence in loosely aligned powers operating beyond its borders. Raiders, mercenaries, opportunists, and political grievances had converged upon Rust Haven beneath the Wild Space Rebellion's banner, leaving behind the sort of institutional memory that did not vanish simply because later conversations became more civil.

Too many of these factions had already fought beside one another, negotiated with one another, or discovered that their enemies overlapped...Yet trust remained in painfully short supply these days... Percival's attention returned to Valery Noble's name.... That was what made her arrival potentially useful.

She possessed influence among the Jedi, considerable experience navigating the politics of the former Galactic Alliance, and connections extending well beyond the Hidden Path itself. If her distaste for the Dark Side remained as pronounced as her history suggested, she might prove capable of opening one more channel where Mahporeem would find difficult.

Perhaps even toward the High Republic. It would take more than shared enemies to bind these powers together. Someone would have to persuade them that cooperation did not require surrendering themselves beneath another government's banner. Perhaps even what was slowly forming did not need to be an empire, a treaty bloc, or even a formal military command. Perhaps it simply needed to become an Alliance to Restore the Light.

If there truly were enough disparate powers willing to agree upon one thing: The Sith could not be permitted to remain the greater threat simply because everyone else was too busy distrusting one another.... then Percival would use his own information to his advantage to influence this fortuitous meeting to further his goals of seeing that alliance through.
With that in mind, the young tactician reached out to Captain Tane with a brief intelligence query attached to Noble's preliminary file.

Percival highlighted the portions he considered most useful: Valery Noble's history as Sword of the Jedi, her repeated campaigns against Sith powers, her former leadership of the New Jedi Order, and her present influence within the Hidden Path. Whatever else could be said of her politics, the woman had made a remarkably consistent habit of placing herself between the Sith and whoever happened to be standing in their path.

That was the point he wanted Ronhar to notice most here.

"Captain, one consideration before you speak with her, if I may be so bold."

Percival attached the condensed profile.

"Noble is about as close as the modern Jedi possess to a predictable anti-Sith constant. If the conversation permits it, I would be interested in her assessment of the present campaign in the Core, particularly whether she believes the High Republic can be persuaded to cooperate with the powers already moving against them.

I would also very much like to join you, if you have no objection. An opportunity like this seems poorly served by relying upon a secondhand report afterward. I suspect Miss Noble may prove considerably more useful to our present circumstances than even she presently realizes."

Valery followed the escort without protest.

The two Imperial fighters remained on either side of her X-wing as she descended toward Corrox Central, and she kept precisely to the trajectory traffic control had given her. She had come openly for a reason. Starting her visit by testing the patience of an unfamiliar Imperial government would accomplish very little. Docking Bay 19 eventually appeared ahead, and Valery guided her fighter down until its landing gear settled against the platform.

The engines wound down and the canopy opened. Valery climbed out, dropping the last short distance to the ground before straightening. One hand ran through her long dark hair, pushing it back into place after the flight, while her orange eyes immediately settled on the welcoming party. There were fewer people waiting than she might have expected. One man stood at the center, accompanied by a single armored figure and a protocol droid.

Valery approached without hesitation.

Her lightsaber remained visible at her hip. Concealing it would have been pointless after announcing herself by name, and she wasn't here to pretend she was anything other than what she was. Still, her posture remained relaxed as she stopped a comfortable distance from Ronhar and his guards.

Valery offered him a polite smile and dipped her head. "Valery Noble. Jedi Master." Her gaze briefly shifted across the docking bay before returning to him. There was plenty she wanted to ask, especially after seeing the precautions taken for her arrival. For now, introductions came first.

"Thank you for allowing me to land. I realize a Jedi arriving unannounced in Imperial territory might raise a few concerns." A faint smirk touched her lips. "I'm hoping a conversation can clear some of those up."
