Just my early morning musings over a cup of coffee.
A few conversations with some friends have made me realize a few things about Rp that I either didn't know or didn't quite understand in the past few years. First, there are two types of Roleplayers. Those who rp for self and those who rp for others. Now when i say this im not saying that one is selfish and the other is a grandstander. I mean that there are different avenues to happiness in this little hobby of ours.
Step into my head:
My absolute favorite character I have ever written is Adron Malvern . He, to me, is a pure reflection of my best writing and some of my best organization as well. I love him and I love his journey and how it's growing. That being said, I feel like he's never been a "main contender" in the big world of Sith and Jedi. He simply pales in comparison to figures like Darth Metus , Darth Prazutis , and Carnifex . Not to say anyone is better or worst, but ask someone who Darth Malphas is and the response will probably be...
That being said, how is this relevant to the topic at hand? Because I care. You see, im a writer who wants to be known for making big shit happen and have some prominence on the galactic scene. A big reason i haven't made any money moves right now is because story wise, Adron isn't there yet. He's just not and I don't feel a need to push him there. But in the same way i care, there are plenty of people who don't give a DAMN if you know who they are or what their characters are doing. These people do not write for others. I think there are ups and downs to both sides, you know?
If you isolate yourself in rp, that's less chance of people approaching you for new and exciting stories. However, if you grandstand and take the shining light....holy shit. You are at all times a target and that can often suck because it becomes invasive to your stories. That being said i think a healthy mix between the two is the path i'd like to walk. Recently i spoke to Victoria Malvern about my Illyria storyline. Quite honestly Illyria was originally built for myself and Alessandra Malvern as a plot point. Now i absolutely love all the people who have taken interest in it and even decided to write characters there, but I don't necessarily need that for my story to drive forward.
The main point im getting to in this mass set of incoherent ramblings it that sometimes the story is about what you're doing and sometimes its about what's happening around you. No matter what we should always try to enjoy it as best we can. I mean...what would ya'll rather do? If we're here we may as well enjoy it.
