OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To provide a setting for a scientific expedition thread I plan on making.
  • Links: N/A
  • Canon: N/A
  • Permissions: N/A

  • Planet Name: Zodasia
  • Demonym: Zodasian
  • Region: Unknown Regions.
  • System Name: Zodand
  • System Features: 1 yellow star. 5 planets (Zodasia is the 5th) with an asteroid belt between planet 3 and 4. Only Zodasia is inhabitable.
  • Location: Shor’s Hex, upper right forward vertex.
  • Major Imports: Radio technology, building materials, bug repellent, exploration gear.
  • Major Exports: Artifacts, Water, Fish
  • Unexploited Resources: Wood, Gold
GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION
  • Gravity: Slightly less than standard
  • Climate: Humid with varying temperatures
  • Primary Terrain: Oceans, Islands, Tundras, Jungles
  • Atmosphere: Type 1
LOCATION INFORMATION
  • Capital City: Antilles Outpost
  • Planetary Features: The planet’s many islands have many unexplored ruins of the ancient Kaveedi Civilization which died out due to climate changes. The Kaveedi were expert builders who had amazing architecture and agricultural systems, but died out just before they would have developed space travel advanced enough to take them to a new inhabitable planet. Since they died out, expansive jungles have grown to cover their ruins in the non-polar regions, and the planet has returned to livable temperatures. In the modern day, the planet has become a fascinating archeological site where many unexplained phenomena are sighted and the whole planet has been described as a mystery waiting to be solved. For scientists wishing to study the planet, a large space station known as USPDS-3465 is in orbit for docking larger spacecraft and as a general pit stop in the Unknown Regions. A smaller town called Antilles Outpost has been established on the surface island of Asvadoracalb for landing shuttles and for those wishing to stay directly on the surface.
  • Major Locations:
    • Antilles Outpost is the unofficial capital city of Zodasia, and the largest settlement not counting USPDS-3465. It consists of mostly local businesses that sell things like exploration gear and food to visiting scientists and trade ship crews. Also found there are hotels for visitors to stay in, houses for the people who live there, and of course
      • The main government building on the outpost is the surprisingly large Rothab Quava Building Of Administration. Outside the front doors, there is a large fountain sculpture built by the artist Guila Scalenia depicting the Battle Of Fadratov’s Folly. It has an information center, the Outpost Administrator’s office, offices for the different governmental departments, a hangar for security vehicles, and a community room, which can be used as a meeting hall, or used for large scale events.
      • Also notable is the government run Landing facility 04. It is the largest landing area for shuttles on the planet, and if enough room was cleared off, it could potentially fit an entire Star Destroyer. This hasn’t been tested though. It is a constant hive of activity, but it is kept in quite good condition by the cleaning and repair staff. It is also frequently used as a meetup spot by both locals and visitors. It’s rumored that a secret spy organization has a safe house in the basement, but these rumors are unconfirmed and if it does exist, the secret is very well guarded.
    • In orbit around the planet is USPDS-3465 Orbital Space station. Originally built by the Glolmark Corporation, it has since been declared public property after the corporation went bankrupt. It is where most of the large starships that visit the planet dock, as there aren’t any landing places on the surface large enough for anything bigger than a very small corvette. Inside the space station is a hangar for small, rentable spacecraft, a food court with mostly local businesses, a gift shop, rentable rooms for guests, various bathrooms for a variety of species, and for reasons nobody is exactly sure about, a furniture store among other rooms. Off limits to visitors are a power generation room, various janitorial closets, an office for the station administrator, a navigation room for maintaining orbit, a droid room, where the droids that maintain the station are stored, and a meeting room.

POPULATION
  • Native Species: Kaveedi (extinct), various Flora and Fauna, most of which has not been catalogued
  • Immigrated Species: Rodians, Humans, Weequay, Toydarians, Ithorians, Duros, Zabrak, Nemoidians, Shorak
  • Population: Sparse
  • Demographics: A wide range of sentient species live here, but the most common are Rodians at 35% of the population due to the fact that a large number of them were used as slaves by the Glolmark Corporation before its downfall.
  • Primary Languages: Galactic Basic, Rodese, Durese
  • Culture: The colonists generally are strongly anti-corporate, as the planet was formerly ruled by the Glolmark Corporation. The scientists and the spacers have a bit of tension between each other sometimes, with the governmental workers acting as a moderate 3rd party. On the other hand, the extinct Kaveedi culture which consisted of ruthless capitalistic expansionism, closely and jealousy guarding secrets and wealth, betrayal being completely normal and nothing personal, using the cheapest way possible, and playing a sport called Dascov Ball.
GOVERNMENT & ECONOMY
  • Government: Elected administrators of Antilles Outpost and USPDS-3465 hold the most power, but are independent of each other.
  • Affiliation: Formerly the Glolmark Corporation, after it went out of business, the planet has been independent.
  • Wealth: Medium It has been able to secure better conditions now that it is independent of the Glolmark Corporation by exporting Kaveedi artifacts.
  • Stability: Medium there is not very much unrest on the planet, but it would not take a very strong force to seize control.
  • Freedom & Oppression: After gaining independence, the planet has had a fairly loose government due to hatred for the previous iron fisted rulers.
MILITARY & TECHNOLOGY
  • Military: Low, for all intents and purposes, it would be defenseless if an organization like the C.I.S. or the Eternal Empire were to attack it. The closest thing to a military it has are the security forces at Antilles Outpost and USPDS-3465.
  • Technology: Galactic Standard
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Tens of thousands of years ago, The Planet Zodasia was ruled by the now extinct Kaveedi Civilization. The Kaveedi were excellent builders, and ruins of their civilization still exist to this day. Their downfall eventually came when the planet’s climate changed due to unknown reasons, and they had not developed space travel advanced enough to take them to a new planet. Much of their civilization is a mystery to this day just waiting to be solved. Local rumors even say that there could even be technology that could benefit the galaxy today.
Zodasia was rediscovered in 772 ABY by 6 Duro cartographers trying to make a map of the Unknown Regions. In 775 ABY, it was claimed by the corrupt Glolmark Corporation, who ruthlessly exploited the planet for its natural water and seafood supply, bringing in maltreated slaves to speed up the process. In 777 ABY, they discovered ancient ruins of the Kaveedi civilization, which they reported on, but refused to let anyone curious about them to investigate, as they didn’t want anyone to know about their practices on the planet. In 793 ABY, the word got out anyways, and the rest of the Galaxy, horrified at what they were doing, sent operatives to free the slaves and various governments organized mass boycotts. These measures greatly hurt the corporation, which lost a majority of their control of the planet due to slave revolts and in 824 ABY, the corporation controlled only a tiny portion of the surface and the USPDS-3465 Space Station, which were liberated in the Battle Of Fadratov’s Folly in 826 ABY, shortly after which Luther Glolmark, the CEO of the corporation, was imprisoned for his crimes and the company went bankrupt. The planet established a system of elective government in 827 ABY and has since been building an economy off of more limited and less exploitive versions of the Glolmark Corporation’s industries and inviting scientists to study the ruins and natural phenomena unique to the planet.

UNDER REVIEW Wendell Mortimer Glolmark Wendell Mortimer Glolmark

This is an interesting submission that could make for some great roleplay opportunities! An ancient, vanished culture that left behind valuable artifacts... A greedy, exploitative corporation finally overthrown and replaced with a local colonial government... A backwater outpost full of both scientists and business-minded spacers... This fits well into the themes of the Unknown Regions, and could be a great roleplay location to explore those themes.

There are a couple of minor things to fix or fill in; these are the Required Changes. Beyond that, it'd be cool to see some more detail, so that writers have inspiration to draw from when visiting your cool new planet! Those parts are in the Suggested Changes area. Please feel free to reach out to me with any questions or concerns.

Required Changes
  • Please add the "Links" field back to the "Out of Character Information" section, even if you don't have any links to put there. Per the Codex Rules, the entire template must be used in your submission. You can just put N/A if you'd like.

  • In the "Major Locations" section, under "Location Information", please describe each of the major locations. Per the template: "What are the major locations on your world? Include an explanation on each."
    • What is it like to walk down the streets of Antilles Outpost? Why was it named that? Is it mostly tents, or are there permanent structures? Are there any notable local businesses, like cantinas or expedition outfitter shops?
    • What is USPDS-3465 like? Did Glolmark Corporation build it, or was it part of the earlier scientific expedition? Is it shiny and new, or is it run-down and in need of repair? Are there lots of labs for the scientists? Are there amenities for spacers, like cantinas, repair bays, and hotels?
    • Could Fadratov's Folly, the location of the battle that liberated the planet from Glolmark Corporation, be a major location?
    • Are there any large or important Kaveedi ruins that could be major locations? What are these ruins like? Are there a lot of buildings and artifacts left, or are they mostly destroyed? Did they leave behind written records, or even holograms? Could some of their droids still be operating? What would an explorer encounter there?

  • In the "Primary Languages" section, under "Population", you list Rodian and Duro. These should be revised to their proper Star Wars names, Rodese and Durese.

  • Please expand the "Stability" section, under "Government and Economy", with an explanation of why Zodasia has Medium stability. It doesn't have to be long, but we do need something there. Per the template: "Are there major issues causing unrest? Is this a planet of chaos or one of peaceful law-abiding citizens? Is it dangerous for travelers to visit or are you safe as an outsider? Describe the general feel and theme of any overarching government or rulers/leaders in this city."
    • Does Zodasia's democratic government have a strong police force to maintain order, or do the locals punish criminals themselves, "frontier justice" style? Is there a strong criminal element, such as smugglers or poachers? Does the government regulate the trade in Kaveedi artifacts?

  • There is an errant "[" at the start of the "Freedom and Oppression" description, under "Government and Economy". Please go ahead and delete that for the sake of clean formatting.

  • In three places, you call the planet's original inhabitants the "Kaveedi" ("Planetary Features" twice and "Native Species" once). In two other places, you call them the "Kadeevi" ("Culture" and "Historical Information"). Please choose one of those spellings as the correct one and fix the others.

Recommended Changes

  • In the "Demographics" section, under "Population", you mention that the population is 35% Rodian. That's a pretty high percentage. Why are there so many, given that it was Duros explorers who found the planet? Were a large number of Rodians employed by Glolmark Corporation? Was there a large Rodian scientific expedition? A little bit of explanation here would be interesting.
    • The planet is also very near Shor; are there any Shorak colonists?

  • In the "Culture" section, under "Population", you could expand a bit by talking about the culture of Zodasia's colonists. Do the scientists and traders get along, or do they disagree about how to treat the planet? Is the planet's population anti-corporate after what happened with Glolmark Corporation, sticking to small businesses? How do the locals react to outsiders?

  • In the "Wealth" section, under "Government and Economy", what is the secret of the planet's growing wealth? Does its income come mostly from Kaveedi artifacts, or from the seafood and water formerly exploited by Glolmark?

  • In the "Military" section, under "Military and Technology", what (limited, as you said) military forces does the planet have? Is there a standing army, or are volunteers called up from the colonists when necessary? Is there a defense fleet of any kind?

  • In the "Historical Information" section, there's a lot of room for more detail.
    • I'd love to see more about the Kaveedi. You mention some information about their culture, and that they died out due to climate change. Let's add that to the history section. About when did they die out - hundreds, thousands, or tens of thousands of years ago? Was the climate change that wiped them out natural, or was it caused by their ruthless capitalistic expansionism at the expense of their planet?
    • Was Zodasia affected by major Chaos events? When the Duros explorers arrived, the galaxy was just beginning to recover from the Gulag Plague after centuries of isolation. Did that affect their reasons for exploring? In 844 ABY, after the new government took power, the Netherworld event caused strange Force phenomena, and billions of people across the galaxy suddenly disappeared. Did this affect Zodasia's population?
    • More information about the Glolmark Corporation (where they came from, why they came to Zodasia, what happened to their assets) would be great. What planets or galactic powers sent operatives to stop their slave trading?
    • It's been forty years since the new Zodasian government took power. Has anything major changed?

Nice job fleshing out this submission! It looks like you fixed all of my requests, and also added the details I recommended to everything except the Historical Information section. You mentioned that you might add more to that later; do you want to take some time to do that, and then tag me when you're ready to finish judging?
