Zalke Caromed - of the small Caromed clan on Taris - was orphaned near infancy by warfare. Taken in by his aunts
Lynn Caromed
and
Fabula Caromed
, he was raised on the ancestral clan grounds as their own. A gifted student from a young age, Zalke's ravenous appetite for things to take apart, jam back together, and meddle with was happily fed by his family. He was provided with the best education the clan could provide, and while he had neither the temperament or the desire to potentially lead the clan in his aunt Lynn's place someday it was clear that he would have a future in the leadership of it.
It is the Mandalorian way to devote yourself fully to mastering your craft - be it warfare, business, governance, or something else. The Caromed clan has served Taris for generations as surgeons, doctors, and scientists, and Zalke was all to happy to devote himself to this pursuit rather than to combat. While he received the same basic education in warfare that all Mandalorians do, Zalke did not have the temperament to excel as a soldier. Fractious, prone to argument with superiors, and led more by his own sense of right and wrong than anything else, Zalke found it much healthier for his family honor to find an honorable reason to avoid military service. To this end, he picked up an old light freighter and took his practice on the road.
Since leaving home a few years ago, Zalke has tooled around the Galaxy in his old junker filled with spare parts and abandoned prototypes. He attempts to fix problems as he comes across them, designing lightweight accessibility tools and prototypes or more complicated designs (all with the intention to help people) which he will then post for free use on the Holonet. After being burned by industrial theft, Zalke started a small company to try and protect his designs from being poached by corporate interests. Constantly on the verge of breaking down or running out of fuel, Zalke only sells his creations at cost and is only kept flying by picking up side-jobs or begrudgingly accepting small donations.
Whenever possible, Zalke prefers to go by the nickname 'Zee', though he'll also accept 'Zed'

TRAITS:
+Improvisational Ingenuity: When it comes to addressing a need or solving a problem, Zee can be shockingly resourceful. Whether or not his tape-gum-paperclip solutions actually last very long is another matter entirely, but in the moment? He's got deep pockets full of random garbage, a working knowledge of several debatably legal workarounds, and a willingness to get things done now and make them last later.
+Combat Medic: Zee was raised by a traditional (and slightly conservative) Mandalorian clan somewhat specialized in support roles. His childhood was spent assisting in clinics and field hospitals, and he was taught to treat blaster wounds and broken limbs through his teens. Of course, being a Mandalorian, Zee also knows the right side of a blaster and how to handle himself in a fight, though he's much less proficient at this.
-Technical Pacifist: Zee might hate cops and state violence as much as he's able to hate anything, but core to his belief structure is the idea that everyone should be able to turn their life around. To this end, he refuses to willingly take a life. He doesn't always have the skill to do so, or the martial prowess to disarm somebody - especially not if they're a trained combatant - but he HAS to try.
-Chronic Hero Syndrome Zee can't stand to leave a problem unaddressed, especially if that problem exists at the expense of somebody without the power to do anything about it. While this is his leading cause of friends and connections, it more often leads to him getting the sense kicked out of him by cops or corporate security because he popped off on somebody else's behalf.
Appearance:
Zee is a fairly slight, slender man with wild hair and wide eyes. He tends to wear ragged clothes most of the time, preferring old comfortable favorites whenever possible. Though he usually doesn't, Zee is fully capable of dressing up when the situation demands. When he does he tends to wear sleek, modern clubwear with simple outlines, or well-tended armor in his clan's customary shades of green and orange. His garb usually is a mix of 'homeless musician' and 'starship mechanic on the run', with durasteel toe boots, belts of random tools, and other paraphernalia. While he's got fairly low visible muscle mass, Zee's hands and arms absolutely show off serious definition when put to work.
Usually slightly manic and outgoing, Zee tends to move with great purpose when he has no cause to and tends to start behaving in a sketchy manner around authority figures even if he's done nothing wrong. His voice is fairly soft and smooth, and has a tendency to rasp or crack when he yells.
EQUIPMENT:
PGEM/S-01 "Puddlejumper": Zee bought this thing from an uncle for essentially nothing, and he's gotten every credit he spent on it in the years since. Constantly on the verge of breaking down and packed to the brim with tools and junk, there will eventually come a day when some lucky pirate blows this heap apart and shotguns enough garbage across the Galaxy to occlude a small star. If you'd like a contemporary point of reference, imagine a rickety old station wagon with an aftermarket tape deck and a radar scanner under the dash.
