Trying Hard Not to Flake
I thought of some more!

4) Family rp. I've tried in the past but honestly I'm flaky and I change my mind so much that it's hard to get others involved in my story. It sucks though because I LOVE reading and collecting the lore of how all the characters are intertwined. I'm just no good at being part of it.

Also ... I'm thinking I might also be bad at writing multiple characters because I'm fizzling right now. Might have to go discuss with my peeps and see if they mind if I just focus on one for a bit.

  • Perfectly moral and 'good' characters. On average, the characters I write tend towards morally grey or dark grey. Kyriaki and Elpsis are good examples. Though for the same reason I don't write unambiguously evil that often.
  • Slice of life stuff. Not every story needs to be super epic or have fighting (Kyriaki's story features very little combat frankly, partly as a self-imposed challenge since she is frail and weak in the Force...but is stuck in a society of murderous Sith and Social Darwinist, patriarchal human supremacists and needs to use her mind to survive). But to me it needs to have a point, a goal and direction of some sort.
  • Happy characters, characters without trauma or other psychological issues, Elpsis has huge self-esteem issues (thank you, Siobhan, for being emotionally abusive), Kyri is hugely traumatised and hates herself. When my characters get too happy, I get annoyed.
  • Happy romance stuff. See above.
  • Writing descriptions for settings and how to work those into a scene.

First person characters.

Been working hard to practice, but for some reason I always get too in their head, and end up writing characters that overthink things wayyy too much (just like me!), even when they shouldn't be.

Also, fleeting. I don't know how you guys do it. Starship subs scare the **** outta me, let alone figuring out how to organized multiple of then at the same time.

First person perspective in fiction writing always is odd to me.

  1. Men. They seem pretty cool, just can't get into the mindset of one.
  2. Dogfighting and fleeting. I know zip about ships and formations etc. and if I have to spend a ton of time googling nomenclature and concepts to try and make sure that I don't look like even more of a fool when writing, then I'm not having fun.
  3. I tend to start losing steam with characters once they become competent. I love writing novices, the bumbling journey and inevitable mistakes.

Cora’s not competent?

Yeah its not for everyone, and having been doing it recently I can see why. Case in point my own issues with it, finding that I'm putting too much of myself into characters that are, or should be, not like me at all. I have a spy character who I've enjoyed writing FP in the past, but I have way to much anxiety to get into the head space of a calm, collected James Bond type.

I have been writing a new Stormtrooper character in FP though and I find writing first person experiences of war flows quite easily for me.
