Private Way of the Saber (Saber Kata)

Be careful what you wish for.
“The training is nothing! The will is everything! The will to act.” - Samurai Proverb

Everything was pretty much done and the room that they were in was quiet. There would be no one approaching any time soon unless there was a high level emergency. Until then, there was Caltin Vanagor, Judah Lesan Judah Lesan , Kahne Porte Kahne Porte and Amanda braska. Technically you might say that Vanagor was teaching the other three, but in truth this technique was still in development so he was still learning it as well.

Thanks for coming, everyone. Let me get this thing started.

Pressing the button on the holocron, his own visage enveloped the blue screen. Standing there as imposing as Caltin thought he was, the “big man” looked at all of them and then back at his own self. “Back to learning already?”

In a manner of speaking. While I came up with the idea, we’re all going to develop it.

“All of you? Really?”

You want me to shut you down, Schutta?

“Calm the kark down.” Looking at the others, the holocron addressed them all. “This technique adapts to the style of the person. There are movesets and tiers but the style depends on the Jedi. The purpose of this technique is to create as many angles and openings for you to use a lightsaber without giving up a defensive position.”

There is no need for worry about emotions because this is meant to be so fluid and natural that you are not even thinking about what you are going to do. You just come out and do it.

Judah had answered the summons from Caltin. They had arranged the meeting previously, and discussed the reason for the meeting. Judah was genuinely curious in what Caltin had seemed to have developed. If there was a new saber form to be created, Caltin would be the one to undertake it. A grin pulled at Judah’s lips as the holocron became active.
A wave of his hand found a stool pulled his way. Judah sat down just as it came to rest underneath his buttocks. His pipe was pulled out and the Jedi master began to smoke whatever leaf happened to be in it this time.
“So let me get this straight. You have managed to develop an adaptive form that is meant to play on the strengths of the one who uses it?”
Judah waggled his brows.
“That’s really gonna piss the Sith off.”

Amanda layed there on a bench watching all this she had agreed to come help with this new lightsaber form. Being one of the more agile masters and more of a martial artist but still heavily trained in lightsaber combat gave her a unique view much like caltin. As she watched caltin and Judah speak up the brunette master then spoke up "the angrier they are the more likely they are to make mistakes" she said still laying there.

"And with how frequently they seem to pop back up from the ashes this might give the jedi an edge until a jedi falls and teaches them this form anyway" she said making valid points. Sitting up the brunette thought about it as she awaited instruction from caltin on what to do to help him.

It didn't take long for the Jedi Master to answer Caltin Vanagor Caltin Vanagor summons. While he was on Naboo, any Jedi that requested of him, he would answer there call. He hadn't retired from his duties as a Jedi, just taken a small step back for a time. Especially with everything that happened to him on Naboo during the war. He wasn't going to lie, it was nice to get the call and feel needed or even just being asked for help other than his family which was a given.

He loved his time with his family, but there was a part of him, deep down that wanted to get back into the field already. But he needed to take things slow. He wasn't as young as he used to be, while still extremely healthy and such, the battle for Naboo took its toll on him.

More than he wanted to admit.

"Well, aren't you all a welcome sight." Kahne chuckled heartily as he entered the room. He knew all of them, personally and by reputation. They were all good people, and had been through their fare share of battles.

"So, let's hear it old friend." Kahne smiled as he took a seat in one of the chairs nearby and crossed his arms looking towards Caltin.

He felt young again....

Judah seemed to be all too enthusiastic to be a part of this now. It was hilarious to see, but even more so it was invigorating because it meant that this was going to work. Kahne and Amanda liked what they saw as well and this was important because if they were going to be able to learn this and pass it on, they needed to believe in it themselves. When Judah brought up how the Sith could feel about this, Vanagor caned his head, popped an eyebrow, smirked and offered a wink.

That’s what I’m hoping for.

Amanda made some great points, especially about what this could do for the Jedi.

You’re absolutely right as this fighting style embraces any aggressive feelings you may have and takes them completely out of the equation. You will be fighting your opponents from multiple angles all with the singular purpose of getting an opening to use your lightsaber.

Then the holocron spoke up. “The three tier system works in a manner of punches and kicks as well as defensive moves and takedowns. While there are tactics and maneuvers suggested, it is more important to take away from this how to maneuver in order to open up opportunities to use your weapon. This is not considered a ‘lethal’ style, but one that will adapt and morph itself to you and what you are capable of.”

Loosening up, Caltin hit a button on his vambrace and about twenty training droids walked forward.

If you’re a brawler, it works for you, if you are shadowy and speed is your ally it works for you, if you are aerial it works for you. Quite simply, footwork and creating openings for yourself is more important.

He smiled broadly.

… and it wooorrrrks. This is still in development but there is really nothing stopping anyone who learns this. Just think of someone who is strong in Djem So, or Ataru? Or any form. It's almost exciting to think about.

Caltin was incredibly excited about this, he could hear it in his voice the more he spoke about it. And the Jedi Master himself couldn't help but chuckle and smile. It was good to see that he was so passionate about this, it made it even more likely to succeed and be put into practice and would be executed in the field.

"This sounds great my friend." Kahne said, as he himself was eager to start and get things going.

"Do you need a practice dummy?"
The Jedi Master said with a small smile. He was willing to get put to the test and learn. A Jedi never stopped learning, that was something he passed on and he instructed in his family. Be humble, and don't be ignorant to think you know everything. Because Kahne didn't, he was fifty years old, and he was still learning things day by day.

Amanda stood there listening and thinking about what caltin and the holocron said. It had been a while since she saw the jedi master so happy working on this but all this was so far was talk but the way he made it sound. It almost sounded to good to be true and not being a 'lethal' form but allowing one to make openings to use their lightsaber it was definitely skirting a line.

She walked up within a few feet of caltin standing calmly "caltin you say this form is in testing I wish to test this form in melee combat using training sabers surely a master of echani martial arts would make a suitable choice" she said standing there calmly. Yet a trained eye and those who knew her best knew that she was always on guard even here in the temple a result of her training the young master and the youngest in this room she had an advantage but they had experience.

"I know this form is a work in progress but it sounds similar to echani martial arts but more short-sighted and using a weapon" she said. Standing before him she awaited his answer and hoped his answer would be yes. But kept her hopes in check she wanted to see how the form worked and how far he came in perfecting it.
