Character Vol Obaul Di, Shaper Adept

  • INTRODUCTION

"I want many things, and in time I intend to get all of them."
    -Nom Anor

Vol's story begins far before his birth...

    BLOODLINES

Viung Lah was one of the most prominent Yuuzhan Vong before the Great Collapse and the subjugation of their race for the Rebuilding project by Omni. Born to a lowly Subaltern during the Great War when the Yuuzhan Vong invaded the New Republic, Viung Lah's family had adopted the rather rare stance of pacifism in an otherwise hellbent warrior nation. Repulsed by their allied faction's behavior of worshipping pain, Viung's father had intended to shield his family and only child from the more ravenous traditions of Yuuzhan'tar. This was not the way of their Gods, nor was it destiny's plan for the young Lah. He had the name of a prominent family, and soon, the responsibilities of a higher office. Conscripted late in the war and unmoved by his father's desires, Viung sought the path of the warrior - and soon - the praetors. Before too long, the young warrior found himself rapidly rising through the ranks of the Yuuzhan Vong.

After the defeat of the Yuuzhan Vong Empire and Supreme Overlord Shimrra, the Domains of the Empire shattered. Most followed the planet Zonama Sekot in their spiritual ascendance to relearn their place in this new galaxy, but many more chose to stay behind and find their own way. Soon, Viung saw his opportunity and formed the Horde - an amalgamation of followers of Yun-Yuuzhan, Yun-Yammka, and various other Gods and cultures. Adopting the moniker 'Artemis Obauldi' and rejecting his father's cowardly past, the newly crowned Dread Lord carved a path through the Outer Rim to form his own new Empire resurgent. Operating solely out of Myrkr in a shard of a World Brain he called The Obelisk, Artemis formed alliances with the Galactic Underworld and the Sith Empire.

"Glory to the Yuuzhan Vong, Supreme Commander Artemis Obauldi. It pleases me immensely to see so many of our brethren working together once more."
    - Lideron Hale

A massive alliance within the Galaxy by a particular axis of maligned factions named the Knightfall Alliance launched an attack on the various Jedi factions of the Galaxy. Though seen successful and marked the height of Artemis's career as Dread Lord of the Yuuzhan Vong, the alliance eventually fell to infighting and did not succeed in it's goal of eradicating the Jedi. Preferring to consolidate his power and returning home to the Obelisk on Myrkr, Artemis spent his last days focusing on his family - namely, his wife, Lanei Duran, and his three children - Araxis, Belspeth, and Tezzeret. In the few following years, Artemis himself would eventually succumb to political subterfuge and several assassination attempts. One of these attempts would prove successful, and the Dread Lord of the Yuuzhan Vong was finally laid to rest.

This was only the beginning of the Obauldi bloodline. Araxis, the hotheaded eldest son of Artemis, adopted the mantle of the Empire and laid claim to his rightful throne. History here becomes fazy - Araxis's reign as Dread Lord is not well documented. All historians of the era, though indecisive as to the order of events, mostly agree on the following statements - Araxis led a fairly successful campaign of vengeance in conjunction with the Sith Empire against the Jedi. Belspeth was soon publicly outed as one of the first Force Sensitive daughters of Yun-Yuuzhan who did not reside of Zonama Sekot, which shocked the cultural leaders and general public of the Empire into casting her into exile. Tezzeret, the least recorded of Artemis' offspring, wrapped himself in his studies of religion and the Shaper protocols, and rose fairly high within the Priest caste. There is no publicly available records detailing the end of Araxis's reign - it is thought to end some ten or fifteen years after the death of Artemis. Rumors of how it ended range from the return of Belspeth causing internal conflict within the Castes to the Sith Empire seeking to prematurely remove Araxis from office for strategic political purposes. While Araxis' death is also not recorded, it is thought to be the turning point for the end of the Obauldi bloodline in both the Horde and the Yuuzhan Vong Empire.

    REDISCOVERY

The Obauldi bloodline became a thing of the past, a story lost to the annals of history. The power of the Yuuzhan Vong fell harshly during the Four Hundred Year Darkness due to their inability to address the Gulag Plague. A simple villager, Domainless and serving a degraded branch of the fallen Empire began to make a name for himself - Nas Kraal, a Myrshavong offspring that was soon to become the industrial aficionado of Titan Industries, General of the One Sith, and first hybrid Yuuzhan Vong to rise through a Domain that he was not born into. Also changing his name, Nas adorned the moniker Tsavong and consolidated his following into the Hrosha-Gul. Declaring his allegiance to a heretical new God, Yun-Amon, Tsavong expanded upon his warrior prowess and natural leadership by marching the Hrosha-Gul to several small skirmishes within the Galaxy before eventually falling to infighting due to his controversial upbringing within the Yuuzhan Vong community. Despite his failures, Tsavong helped spurn several offshoots of his reformed Great Doctrine such as the famous Legion Yun'Do.

Having survived the conflicts, Tsavong retreated to the Unknown Regions on a self-proposed spiritual journey.

    EXILE

"My name is Supreme Overlord Viung Lah, Dread Lord of the Horde, Dark Tyrant of the Obelisk. History will know me as Artemis Obauldi, the Man Who Failed The Galaxy."

It was during this period of exile that Tsavong discovered the tomb of Artemis Obauldi on Myrkr. Activating ancient Vong technology put in place centuries before, Tsavong underwent a transformation that joined his consciousness to the dead Dread Lord's in a new body. Cured of his mutated Myrshavong ailments but now enjoying the engagement of a second mind having joined his own, Tsavong soon fell to madness as the fallen spirit of Artemis Obauldi vyed for control of his victim's body. No match for the Dread Lord's will, Tsavong became Artemis reborn, and the Dread Lord began plotting his return.

Things perhaps did not go according to plan, however, as much is unknown to this day of either Tsavong or Artemis, and the exiled leader of the Hrosha-Gul has been lost to his people for quite some time.

    VOL'S PROPHECY

Vol Obaul Di, a shaper adept helping with various Reformation projects on Manaan, has claimed to have a vision of both Artemis and Yun-Amon, and has made several pilgrimages to the Obelisk on Myrkr to spread gospel of a Great Doctrine very similar to the one Hrosha-Gul followed some few years back.
