  • Universal Data Link
    • A throwing star can be controlled by the designated wielder via a miniaturized comm link, allowing her to interface with them remotely. This typically takes the form of a neural link so that she can control their functions through thought, but interfacing can also be executed via other means. This function also allows for HUD interfacing, uplink, and networking capability.
  • Mono-Molecular Edge
    • Each throwing star has an edge honed to a single molecule of thickness. Thus, the edges are extremely, surgically sharp, increasing potential cutting performance.
  • Svolten Rhyolite Treatment
    • Allows the throwing stars to retain their integrity and cutting power even after sustaining hard impacts with the blade of a lightsaber or with especially dense materials.
  • Repulsorlift Engine
    • Each throwing star has a miniaturized repulsorlift engine capable of independent flight at typical speeds of 340 m/s, with a maximum speed of 850 m/s. The engine is also rated to function underwater, albeit with reduced speed (typical underwater speeds of 100 m/s and maximum underwater speed of 150 m/s). The throwing star can be remotely controlled by the wielder via direct neural link (or other means), allowing them to be directed in flight by remote command.
    • Kinetic Rebounding System
      • Allows a throwing star to deflect/bounce harmlessly off of surfaces and unintended targets while maintaining lethal cutting power against intended targets. The throwing star’s outer edge is lined with a short-range repulsion field emitter network that can be directly controlled by the wielder via the remote link.
      • Bounce Mode
        • When the throwing star strikes a surface/unintended target, the repulsors activate for a split second, deflecting the blade harmlessly off the object, acting as a brief "bounce shield".
        • This prevents the blade from digging in, instead ricocheting at an angle (like skipping a stone on water).
        • The angle of deflection can be pre-set or adjusted mid-flight via controls.
      • Cutting Mode
        • When striking an intended target, the repulsion field network remains inactive, allowing the ultra-sharp edge to slice deep.
        • The lack of repulsor cushioning (or “bounce”) facilitates full penetration.
    • Inertial Directional Surge Core
      • An internal directional energy capacitor stores kinetic impact force from a bounce and releases it as an impulse surge on the next vector. This allows the throwing star to maintain its velocity and kinetic energy regardless of prior momentum loss from the previous bounce. It also compensates for velocity and kinetic energy decay on multibounce throws/trajectories.
  • Auto-Guard System
    • The monomolecular energy cord and ultrasonic generator only engage when the shuriken is in motion (thrown). A micro-gyroscopic sensor and a pressure sensor detect rapid acceleration (throwing motion) and subsequently activates systems. Only immediately after the shuriken is released from the wielder’s grasp, do the monomolecular blades “unsheath” from their semi-dull housing. The monomolecular energy cord and ultrasonic vibration generator are activated immediately after throwing as well. Without the auto-guard system, the shurikens would be incredibly difficult, if outright impossible to safely handle due to the lack of a grip and the inherent dangers of a super-vibrating, monomolecular blade with an energized filament.
  • Sound Dampening System
    • Each throwing star has an integrated sound damper that renders the weapon completely silent, making it ideal for stealth.
  • Gyroscopic Stabilizer
    • Each throwing star has an integrated gyroscopic stabilizer, which improves the stability of the weapon in flight, ensuring that the blade stays balanced in flight.
  • Ultrasonic Vibration Generator
    • A high-grade vibration generator, the ultrasonic vibration generator installed in each throwing star causes the blade to vibrate with extreme speed and force, giving the weapon the ability to tear through flesh, hard organic carapace, thick stone, and heavy metal alloys the likes of titanium and durasteel. In addition, the blades have the potential to inflict devastating, gaping wounds and possibly even dismember, with only a touch.
  • Monomolecular Energy Cord
    • Energy filament ran along the edges of the blade utilized to enhance cutting power, while adding a secondary plasma effect. Can be activated or deactivated at the wielder’s discretion.
  • Resilient Construction
    • Owing to their material construction, the throwing stars are moderately resistant to lightsabers, vibroblades, and energy weapons.
  • Collapsing Mirrors Retraction System
    • The blades can retract into a semi-dull housing via molecular disruptor mirror cells for safe and easy storage. From here, the throwing star itself can collapse down to half of its active size.

STRENGTHS
  • Cutting Power: The shuriken is a devastating cutting instrument that destroys matter on multiple levels simultaneously. The monomolecular edge severs molecular bonds with almost no resistance, while the energy cord/laser sheath superheats and destabilizes the material ahead of the blade, softening it into molten or vaporized fragments. At the same time, the ultrasonic vibration generator unleashes microscopic oscillations that shatter internal cohesion, sending destructive resonance deep into the target. Since the shuriken spins in-flight, each arm is a separate vector of destruction, multiplying potential damage effects. The result is a blow that not only cuts, but also unravels whatever it touches, combining thermal shearing, vibrational tearing, and atomic-level slicing in a single rotation.
  • Brutal: A single successful blade pass can leave wounds that are simultaneously clean and catastrophic: flesh instantly cauterized yet torn open into gaping, ragged channels, armor slashed apart as if made of brittle clay, and even thin reinforced durasteel plates ripped and melted in seconds. Stone is shorn into dust, and most alloys part like water, their molecular integrity shredded by vibration before the heat and edge finish the job. Even a glancing pass has the potential to cause dismemberment or structural failure, making the weapon effectively a spinning thermal vibrocutter, with each arm capable of opening, weakening and unseating armor while inflicting deep structure damage beneath. Since the shuriken spins in-flight, each arm is a separate vector of destruction, multiplying potential damage effects.
  • Resilient: Owing to the Tal’Beskar construction, the shuriken is incredibly resistant to direct applications of the Force. The incorporation of anti-Ion/EMP hardening measures lends excellent resistance to electromagnetic discharges. In addition, the gravitic stabilizer allows the shuriken to resist tractor beams and repulsorlift jammers. In all, the Void Helix-type shurikens are incredibly resilient and rugged, able to function in zones of high electromagnetic surges, repulsorlift disruption, and Force-user activity.
  • Rupture: The energy-reflective nature of the ultrachrome (used as a nanocoating on the blade) repels energy fields and gives the shuriken a very high chance of passing through energy shields. This allows the wielder to engage energy-shielded targets with a good expectation of success. However, it should be noted that depending on their frequency and resistance to energy discharges, energy shields may disrupt the monomolecular energy cord component.
  • Swift Slaughter: A high-powered miniaturized repulsorlift engine in each shuriken boosts the velocity of the wielder’s throws to blinding speeds, allowing for swift blade passes.
WEAKNESSES
  • Melee: The shurikens have virtually no utility in melee combat and are generally not usable in hand-to-hand clashes. They are also generally limited in terms of defensive applications.
  • Circumvented: Indirect applications of the Force (i.e. using the Force to generate bursts of pressurized air) are still effective in defending against the throwing stars.
  • Fried: The throwing stars depend heavily on their electronics for lethality and operational efficiency. EMP and Ion discharges of high enough intensity could compromise these systems, reducing cutting power, utility, and efficiency.
DESCRIPTION
Designed by First United Astral Engineering and manufactured by the Vorrik Armatech subsidiary of Malsheem Hypernautics and Manufacturing, the Void Helix-type Aerial Vibrostar is a vibroshuriken throwing blade intended for use by elite Kainate military, intelligence, Sith, and other operatives from various Kainite-aligned organizations. Constructed using corrupted Tal’Beskar, the shuriken not only has the robustness of beskar, but it is also resistant to direct applications of the Force. With the abundance of trained Force-sensitives in modern battlefields, such a capability was viewed as paramount and was a major consideration in the decision to utilize Tal’Beskar in the design.

Of particular note, the shuriken is First United Astral Engineering’s first attempt at fielding the kinetic rebounding system on a larger than unique production scale. This effectively allows the shurikens to be bounced off of select surfaces and unintended targets, allowing for blade passes to be delivered at wholly unconventional, unexpected angles.

In all, the Void Helix-type Aerial Vibrostar is an ultra-advanced throwing blade platform that is itself constructed from the corrupted metal of the Mandalorians, wielded to the gain of the Eclipsing Mission and the Sith Dyarchy.
