- VL-0K does have some pronounced side effects when consumed and the subject's body tries to resist the changes. Spaarti scientists have observed the following symptoms:
- Sensation of burning from the inside throughout the body, along with extreme pain in all muscle groups for a period of several hours
- Temporary blindness for a period of several hours
- Temporary paralysis for a period of several hours
- Bleeding from the mouth and ears
- Severe headaches
- Severe rejection of the potion can cause more bestial mutations and can result in the lowering of sentience and a reliance on more savage instincts.
- Through the use of the altering properties of Sith alchemy, VL-0K allows a subject who consumes the potion after adding in either the heart or brain of another being or creature, sentient or otherwise, to gain an aspect from the sacrificed subject.
- Through careful study and experimentation by Spaarti Creations scientists and alchemists, they have been able to refine the previous version of the potion. This refinement allows them to determine and control what the potion will grant to the drinker instead of the more random effects.
- Once the potion is ingested, and over the period of a few hours to two standard days, the subject's body and genetic code is altered to grant them an aspect from another species (a strength or physical trait of the species that had its heart or brain added to the potion)
- While the potion grants a strength from a species, it also grants a weakness of the sacrificed species that corresponds equally with the strength.
- Consuming too many different potions will result in the subject experiencing either uncontrollable mutations and regressions of their sentience to a more bestial state OR the reduction of their body into a pool of organic goo as their DNA and cellular structures unravel from too many rapid alterations.
Publicly, Spaarti Creations had announced they had made a breakthrough in the science of gene altering with a new serum the company had experimenting with in their labs on Cartao and Iskalon. The serum, dubbed VL-0K, was able to rapidly rewrite a subject's entire genetic code to add in DNA from another source and cause a controlled but beneficial mutation in the subject who ingested the potion. Many of the scientists publicly stated this could be a key to helping some species that suffered from cellular ailments or had crippling physical traits that restricted their ability to access the wider galaxy to finally have a solution, such as the unfortunate changes Melodie from Yavin VIII experienced when they reached maturity or the inability of Ubese to survive in Type I atmospheres without their envirosuits.
Privately, however, the story was much different.
VL-0K was a more refined and scientifically enhanced version of the alchemical potion the infamous Whiphid Velok the Younger had created and that Taeli Raaf had acquired through a deal with his grandson

on the world of Tash-Taral. The potion had intrigued her, and after obtaining a sample and a copy of the original recipe, she had tasked a select team of her Sith alchemists and Spaarti scientists, through her proxy, to begin working on developing the potion for more... nefarious purposes. VL-0K would be the base for a new project for Spaarti Creations indeed, but it would go much further than what the company had publicly stated.
