The Vigilance-class heavy picket is a mid-sized frigate that is designed to escort larger vessels and work at anti-fighter and projectile pickets for larger fleets. Based on the centuries-old KDY Lancer-class frigate, The thin vessel utilizes fast-tracking software to better track small inbound projectiles and attack craft. While slow for a frigate the vessel is more than able to keep up with the larger vessels it is designed to protect.
Defensively the Vigilance-class has all the standard and lastest hardware The Directorate has to offer. overlapping redundant shielding, Reactive ablative armor, and a faraday mesh triple reinforced frame make the Vigilance a hardened target for incoming damage.
As the Vigilance-class is designed as a picket and for anti-starfighter and defense missions the vessel has no hanger. A set of small docking ports are positioned on the forward hull just aft of the command decks to dock with larger vessels or space docks.
An advanced fast-trak targeting system aids the standard suite of sensors and targeting systems track and identify targets and feed them to the vessels targeting computers. Standard communications systems keep the ship in touch with its allies and can communicate at long ranges with holographic, visual and audio communications. A large proton 8 reactor is positioned amidships which supply power to the weapons, systems, shielding, and engines of the vessel.
The Vigilance-class is loaded out with small grade weapons to dispatch attack craft, incoming projectiles and small capital vessels. Ten Hexlaser cannon turrets are positioned across the hull for maximum fire arcs giving all turrets a nearly 360 degree angle of fire. Supporting them are four CIWS turrets that can intercept incoming projectiles and attack craft with ease. Six fast-tracking dual heavy laser turrets are positioned in a way that gives every arc of fire at least eight turrets. Supporting them as well as acting as a disabling system for capture when needed, four dual light ion cannon turrets are located on the pylons and have a full 360-degree arc of fire. Rounding out the offensive loadout of the Vigilance-class are six quad missile launcher turrets located on the forward ventral hull. These launchers can deploy and retract from armored cases sunken into the hull for protection when not in use.
