The Rapid Pursuit Corvette 1a, nicknamed the Vanguard because the official name is dull, was designed by Archangel to protect its interests against pirates, marauders and other threats that do not merit a large force but are still problematic. Typical missions include escorting convoys, and hunting down reavers and marauders. Archangel prides itself on being proactive in the fight against organised crime. Of course, the corporation prefers to resocialise felons through the use of state-of-the art behavioural modification technology. The humanity and efficacy of its methods have been verified by independent observers. Unfortunately, this is not always possible to redeem every criminal. Some must be eliminated with extreme prejudice.
The Vanguard is quick enough to run down threats and has enough firepower to take down light ships and small corvettes. It can obviously also function as part of a larger naval task force. In keeping with Archangel design philosophy, the corvette is automated. It is controlled by a powerful droid brain built by digitalising and repurposing the souls of the condemned. This is a humane way to make use of criminal miscreants whose crimes are too heinous and whose psyches too warped for rehabilitation to be an option. The inclusion of a Voidwell Hyperanchor can allow the corvette to remain anchored in hyperspace, which is helpful for staging ambushes.
