SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Hyperanchors allow vessels to cross into Hyperspace, but unlike your average Hyperdrive, the ships and stations equipped with such devices remain 'anchored' at the fixed point in space at which they entered. With sufficient supplies, they can remain indefinitely. Detecting anchored objects from Realspace is exceptionally difficult, especially over interstellar differences - a station anchored in the middle of deep space some dozens or hundreds of light-years from the nearest major hyperlane is more or less unfindable unless you know where to look.
  • Hyperspace looks different when stationary. Most observers describe it as a 'slightly misty void with distant stars'.
STRENGTHS & WEAKNESSES
  • Beyond Space: Hyperanchors allow ships and stations to conceal themselves in Hyperspace.
  • Interdiction: Interdiction Fields can yank anchored ships or stations out of Hyperspace.
DESCRIPTION
Relay stations suspended in Hyperspace have long been one of the backbones of interstellar communications, but such technologies had only rarely been used for ordinarily mobile vessels. Unusually interested in hyperspace and secrecy alike, it seemed only natural that Greystone combine the two - by using methods and components derived from common Hyperdrives, their hypernauticists were able to produce the Voidwell Hyperanchor.

While primarily intended to allow research stations to hide in the void between stars without fear of outside interference, these devices can be used in various other ways - notably, anchoring a vessel is an excellent way to escape from a foe that lacks interdiction field generators.

For obvious reasons, anchoring in hostile territory is inadvisable unless it can be done in absolute secrecy.
