Reina blinked for a moment. She seemed...confused as to why Phobos was asking the question at first, as her eyes glanced up over towards the flames. It must have been something that had happened in her past to make her ask that question. At that, Reina just had to sigh to herself, chewing her lip in thought. Debating to herself over what she should say or possibly do.

"First off, you don't look scary. You look good. Then again...I've always seen flames as something that should be admired. Not smothered out...just don't hide what you are, because you're afraid of scaring people."

And then with that, Reina held her hands up, letting Phobos watch as they shifted and changed. Her nails growing out to become more like claws designed to rip and tear. The same happening to Reina's teeth as they grew sharper, becoming far more like fangs built to tear out chunks of tear. The final piece would be the various orange scales that were like specks over any of Reina's exposed skin. The feeling wasn't fun for Reina, but she felt like actions would speak louder than words.

"if I don't scare people off like this, I think you'll be perfectly fine."

Buster of course heard his name and hopped up on his hind legs, NOT to ruffle the woman’s dress any more than he just did, but Connel’s pants. Of course he was looking at Kat though. What do you think, Buddy? A head scratch or two and Buster let out a tiny happy whine..

Her question about family was fair, but pretty complicated. Not complicated as in a problem, just… he was still figuring it out himself.

He had to genuinely think about the new question for a moment. Well, my half sister… my father had her during the 20 years he was on the outer rim during the whole “old Empire”. She had a long life and passed away 800 years ago. Well… she had family and they had family and so on. Anyway long story short. I have a cousin who is the CEO of Guardian Authority, the guy over there is COO. He said pointing towards Thexann.

Her son, my cousin… he’s outside stargazing with a bunch of other Padawans.

He sighed again. I have another, he’s a Jedi… out somewhere. I think Alderaan probably. There’s a guy who lives on Naboo. He’s apparently spitting image of my dad… and my “aunt”... That was all he would mention of “his aunt”. When she would reach out, he would be there, but he was not his father.

Then he laughed at the woman standing next to Thurion who was motioning and smiling. He laughed genuinely. No, that’s… my mother. She’s been worried I work too much.

"if I don't scare people off like this, I think you'll be perfectly fine."

"Do you think so?" Phobos asked. She was hardly bothered by the change to Reina's appearance. Claws and fangs were quite natural, so it wasn't too drastic of a change. But then again, maybe her mystical nature made her more accepting of the strangeness of others. "I just worry that some people may be superstitious..."

It was nice to hear that she thought the Ashspawn looked good though.

"You're right though," she nodded. "I shouldn't hide. That... isn't authentic. I doubt I'd be any good to anyone if I'm constantly worried about what they might think of me."

"If I say something, I mean it. I'm not a fan of saying words just to cheer people up."

She shrugged her shoulders, folding her arms along her front once again as Reina leaned against the tree. Superstitious? There were probably a few people like that. Reina wasn't one of them though. After all, it was hard to be superstitious as a sailor, when one of their superstitions didn't let women on a ship.

"You can't help anyone if you're too focused on what they think of you. It'll get in your head...and...and...Oh my spirits. I'm saying the same chit people have been telling me."

Reina ran her hand down her face...wincing slightly in pain because yeah. Running claws down your face doesn't feel like a fun experience. It looks like she was a hypocrite. She could say the same advice people have been giving her but she couldn't exactly follow it.

"Just...don't worry about people. They have bigger things to worry about than you here. And if anyone does give you issues...I'll kick 'em in the teeth for you."

There we go. Slowly but surely, Reina was getting back to her old self.

"I appreciate the sentiment," Phobos responded. "But... I do not believe any... teeth kicking will be necessary."

It wasn't the fault of others if they were scared. They just hadn't had a chance to understand yet. Knowledge was the ultimate conqueror of fear. If they could only understand her, maybe then they would not be as put off. That made the most sense to the Ashspawn.

"I don't know who I would even begin talking to," she noted. "Is joining difficult? I don't... really have any documentation if they wish to conduct a background check."

That might make things difficult. For all intents and purposes Phobos sort of didn't exist.

It wasn't that Xian surrendered to him, but she did in a way that allowed them to move together naturally. Both of them were using the Force to keep them from brushing against anybody else. Neither of them was doing it with a conscious thought. She didn't consider that others were also doing it. Not that it mattered; her focus was on Caelan.

Their thoughts mingled better than Xian had been with the other people. These people weren't hers, and she didn't give them any additional thought. Caelan had that as they danced and spoke to each other telepathically.

As his answer reached her, she moved slightly closer. If that were possible. For the first time in her life, she was rooted in the moment, and she didn't think any further than the man holding her.

In the warning, but your action kept us alive.

She certainly didn't worship him. Not in the way he was thinking, at least. Worship wasn't even the correct word. Admired and appreciated were closer. Attracted was also a valid description, even if Xian didn't know it yet. There was so much she'd never known in her life, and Caelan was opening her eyes in more ways than she'd ever imagined.

Me too.

Such a simple thought, and it brought a warm smile to her face. She sent it to him. He was thinking about new growth, and she was thinking about how happy she was at the time.

Reina chewed on her lip once more, as she debated over this decision in her mind. She was just a Padawan at the end of the day. She didn't really have that much power. But she also wasn't a child. Kark it. If anything bad happened because of Phobos, Reina would take responsibility for it.

"You're in. As long as you aren't like...Dark Side related, which I don't think you are, and I don't think you're connected to the Empire. Not much documentation needed. We aren't exactly...picky. I know there's a few Chiss erh...extremists who work with us."

Extremists was one way to call them. Terrorists would have been a more accurate way but she didn't want to scare Phobos off like that. Either way, she pushed herself away from the tree, holding her head up with a small amount of proud evident in her eyes and pointed at her chest with her thumb.

"I, Reina Daival, welcome you to the Hidden Path. I don't know much about the...healing or medical care aspect of our group. It might be best to ask Valery Noble, Connel Vanagor, or...I only really know those if I'm honest."

As her quiet laugh slipped free, he found himself catching that smile of hers. Did he think he was charming? Not even a little. Attractive, sure. Funny? Without a question. But it was never for the attention, it spilled out like an uncensored comedy reel, because, he liked to laugh, and he liked watching people laugh with him. When his ribs hurt from cackling and his face ached from the smile, that was the good stuff. If he could give that to someone, why wouldn't he?

His grin widened into a flash of his smile for but a moment as his fingers hooked into her own, taking a few steps backwards. "Ill intent, yes... Stubborn, without a doubt. Die? Nah, that'd be a cop out." A quick tilt of his head and squint of his eyes lent towards joking consideration. "Change? I'd say the council is currently undecided. We'll see if either of us can manage to avoid the others toes." He let out a silent snort.

As her fingers settled, Kain could almost feel it. Hesitation, but he didn't press, Kain simply walked backwards, only giving a quick glance to make sure no one was in their way. "I personally prefer club music, but I see the charm." As they got closer he rolled his shoulders and cleared his throat as if preparing for a duel. "I feel a warning is deserved. I can't dance to save my life, but not to worry. I have an excellent track record of making a fool of myself in public." His free hand wobbled side to side like a bad metronome. "So y'know, statistically speaking, this could just be a success!"

His hand shifted in her own letting their palms meet. His other came outwards towards her hip, not touching, not pulling her in yet, a bit more like an offer. Oddly enough, against his claims, it might look like the guy knows what he's doing, because he did, kinda. The realization struck him just then, mouth going ajar. 'We're about to waltz and I don't even know your name." he shook his head in a self-deprecating manner. "My bad, I'm Kain."

As he spoke of his half-siblings, long-lost relatives, and a lineage stretching back centuries, its course shaped by generations in and out of stasis, Katarine tried to picture the family tree. She had always longed for a family of her own, but the Force had charted other paths for her. Beyond her twin brother, whom she had known as a child, kin had always felt distant, elusive.

Almost unconsciously, she reached inward toward the familiar corner of her mind where their dyad had once thrived. It was empty, as it had been since she had awoken from stasis five years ago. She wondered what had become of him. By now, she assumed he was long gone, though perhaps one day she might be brave enough to seek the truth. To her, the galaxy had always been a story of families with some powerful, others humble, but each playing their part. That was why she found it comforting that Connel had such bonds here, with both blood relatives and the family he had chosen.

Her lips curved into a smile when he mentioned his mother. "Mothers tend to worry like that," she said warmly. "You know, the Old Jedi Order forbade children from staying with their parents and even discouraged older Jedi from having families. But I'm guessing things are different now."

Her deep green eyes drifted toward Valery Noble, radiant in her joy and so clearly in love that it seemed to brighten the room itself. The sight made Katarine grin. Things had changed for sure.

"So tell me,"
she asked, tilting her head with curiosity, "what sort of work do you throw yourself into when you're overworking?" She was eager to know more about what he did for the Path.

"Play to the audience," Calyx echoed, then snorted. “An audience would pay for the show.” The best he could hope for at the hidden path was martyrdom. Sacrifice, again. You couldn’t spend that. It earned you nothing in the end.

He’d kept their dance easy through the song, then let go of Verse. "No problem. You seemed like a natural." There had been a few hiccups that gave it away. "Next time, just let go. Confidence is key. Not practice." He’d seen enough people improvising tonight. Not only were they fun to watch, they might be accidentally creating the next big trend.

Verse took another jab at him. Calyx shot back without missing a beat. "Never needed backup. Just better luck." He glanced toward the exit. "Reckon there are fun people outside? Might be worth a look." Calyx shrugged. "Anyhow, you do you. I’ll see you tomorrow. If I’m not shot or eaten or something." It wasn’t unlikely. With a small wave, Calyx slipped away.

He’d decided to test his luck.

He found the person he was looking for at the fringes of the party. She was hard to miss. One of the taller figures there. Clad in rich purple silk that matched her complexion. Adorned with jewels and tassels, plus armor pieces that completed the warrior look. It confirmed his guess.

Mandalorian.

Good. He needed Mandalorian contacts.
“Evening!” he said cheerfully. “You’re one of the Mandalorians, right? Didn’t expect to see you here.” He turned, resting his back against the wall to face the same direction she was looking. “So, are you enjoying the party?”

Zaiya let Aris's words sink in, her head tilting slightly as if to test them against the quiet rhythm of her own thoughts. He was right, there were so-o many paths, and here on Ossus even after the Core Worlds felt as if every person she passed was chasing something different. It wasn't about following, it was about deciding what she wanted, and that meant taking the time to listen to herself.

But what caught her wasn't just his advice about training. It was the way he had picked up on the rest, the pieces she hadn't voiced aloud. That gentle layer of understanding that reached past the questions, straight into what she'd been holding in.

THe Lovalla's smile spread wider when he laced his fingers with hers, the small act sending a spark of warmth through her chest that made her biolumienece ripple. Looking down, she took the time to really see him -- how his long crimson hair spilled across her lap, how the green of his eyes glowed when they met hers, how his presence felt so steady even when she was uncertain. And when his lips brushed the back of her hand, the warmth turned into a rush, a tingle that went darting up her arm until it bloomed across her skin. The glow that followed betrayed her completely, the dancing of coral and magenta hues shining across her mottled spots like a secret delicious confession she couldn't hide.

She liked it. A lot.

"Umm... no," she said softly, her breath catching as her other hand rose to trace the edge of his jaw. The one interlocked with his stayed right where it was.

"It makes sense... we change as we grow, as new things shape us." Her thumb brushed along his cheek. "You're not that different... just more, I think."

Her head tilted, thoughtful now, though her smile never faded.

"Well... do you mean since I first met you, or something more specific?"

When she started telling him about the old Order and their position on “love” and “families,” he was reminded of a story his father told him. My father told me a story about getting the chance to meet his parents, that is a story for another time, but he always believed if they were not so rigid, and allowed themselves to trust that their fellow Jedi could handle the responsibility that comes with love, things might have turned out differently. Buster was back to his circular patrol of the two of them.

He went on to clarify that sure, not all could handle it, but there had to be the opportunity. If they had it, then he might not have had to fight a fallen Jedi he had trained and worked with on multiple occasions, or strike down his team of Clones, or watch so many of his friends fall in one night.

He had to genuinely think about the next question, sure, she was just making conversation, and probably eager to learn more, but he sort of felt like he was feeling interrogated. Brushing it off as “conversation” he simply said. That’s a question I don’t really want to answer on a dance floor. Go for a walk? Then he immediately winced, knowing exactly what he had just done.

What did he do? Look down at Buster who was doing a dance of his own understanding the word “walk”, all too happy at the idea. A laughing sigh and a smile later, his blue eyes met her green eyes. Come with? Maybe my mother will stop spying, and we can talk about anything and everything you want. He chuckled, wondering if that was a good idea.

They danced, enjoying the comforting warmth of each other, until he felt it might be nice to get some fresh air. Not that the hangar was stuffy. It was large, had plenty of space, and they’d even managed to get rid of the lingering smell of grease and fuel that accompanies such spaces. It really was a pleasant atmosphere, but there were just a lot of people and they almost all seemed to be absorbed in their own conversations or were busy dancing and he didn’t feel like intruding on anyone else at the moment. Besides, a stolen moment alone, actually alone and not swallowed up by a building with lots of people in it, with Xian would be nice.

When the song they were dancing to ended, he stepped back just a tiny bit and released her hand, though the one on the small of her back remained in place. He stepped to the side of her and let his hand slide further around to grip her waist; gently, of course. With her nestled against him, he’d aim to lead the two of them through the throngs of people dancing and milling about, towards the hangar doors that opened to the outside. The night was calling to them, and he aimed to heed it.

Let’s go for a walk so we can talk for a bit.

He wasn’t sure what exactly he planned to talk about, but he knew that he wanted to get away from everyone and just have a chance to talk with her. Perhaps they would be able to get to know one another better. If nothing else, they could enjoy the beauty of the wilderness around the base.

We can always come back and dance more later.

Ace scoffed at his brother's jab, shaking his head as a crooked grin tugged at his mouth. He didn't bother answering, Aether didn't need the satisfaction of a retort.

Michael's ramble was next, and when his friend dropped the word 'Ace', Acier snickered under his breath. He leaned over and bumped him lightly with an elbow, smirk flicking at the corner of his mouth - a wordless acknowledgment of the joke.

Vera's voice pulled his attention back. Seer. His brow ticked up, and the memory stirred back to the Forge, her mentioning seeing visions with that same casual tone. He hadn't been sure then but he didn't doubt it now.

Then Pari, cheeks flushed as she admitted the truth. He shook his head faintly. "You're already pulling your weight. Doesn't take a lightsaber to matter." His hand slipped into her bag a second later, plucking out a cookie without asking. He took a bite, smirk edging back as he added "Not bad. You might've just made yourself the most important one here."

Tic chirped at that, scrambling up onto the railing beside him before hopping down again, circling Aether once more before warbling at Vera like it couldn't decide who he wanted to pester more.

Ace leaned back on his hands, eyes flicking skyward. "Most of you pretty much know me. But… I'm not a Jedi. Just a guy with a laser sword." He let the pause hang, then smirked, cocky edge slipping through. "…and very good with it too."

His eyes slid back to the circle, grin still tugging. "So we've got a Seer, a pilot, and a healer. Guess that makes me the guy who keeps us all alive when things go to hell."

A new voice cut in, and Ace's eyes flicked toward the girl approaching. She was around Pari's age, cautious, and introducing herself like she wasn't sure if she'd wandered into the right place. He chewed the last of his cookie, brushing crumbs from his hand.

"Yeah, pull up a spot." he said simply, giving her a nod.

They understood so much more than they should for their age, understood that their parents were needed, but they still missed them. "That sounds like a wonderful idea. Perhaps you might actually be able to tell me the path to home this time, mm?"

There was no turning back now. The moment Buster heard the word "walk" he was ready to go. Katarine laughed at the excitement the little dog displayed. Truthfully though a walk seemed like a better place to have a discussion, and she was pleased to get off the dance floor. The entire gathering screamed romance a little too heavily for Kat's taste. It wasn't that she was against love, at least not in the way the old Order had been, but rather she just wasn't in a place mentally to accept it yet. Walking with a potential future colleague just seemed a lot more natural at this stage.

So they left the well decorated area and started off into the wilds of Odessen. The stars were shining brightly, and in the distance she could see a group of people had gathered to star gaze. Everyone seemed to be enjoying themselves, but she was certain that Buster was enjoying things the most.

"Sorry about before. You don't have to answer anything you don't want to. I probably shouldn't have given you fifty questions when we just met. I'm just trying to make sense of everything." She smiled lightly, as she waited for Buster to choose the path they were going to travel.

"I mean, I suppose I did change quite a bit from when you used to think you'd catch up to my height." He knew how much he'd changed, at least physically. A smile splayed over his face, his lips still brushing over the back of her hand in the process. Seeing how her colors shifted, he didn't need their bond to know. It was what he enjoyed, seeing the familiar shades ripple across her skin brighter than he night sky above.

It was certainly much more beautiful to him than the night sky.

"But also I hope I'm not the same boy when we met. I'd like to think I got much more attractive."

It didn’t take long for them to get out of there, mainly because Connel wanted to keep Buster within eyesight, as well as let his mother know, who was more concerned about him “getting out there and getting alone time” than where he was going. Of course that brought out the blush in his cheeks, he just hoped the woman he was with did not see it. She didn’t seem interested in anything, which is fine, he was just here to enjoy a night with the mask off, so to speak.

When they were outside, within view of the old Abandoned Alliance Base, he himself had once explored, as well as a group of kids stargazing. She apologized to him/ Really? Why? You have nothing to apologize for. He offered a half smile. I just didn’t want to talk about it in there. Wasn’t the place, you know?

A few more steps brought them to a plateau. It was a beautiful view of a valley with pathways that could be seen, and dense forests as well. Wildlife could be heard, as well as Buster giving his auditory opinion, only a few yips though.Tell’em! You Tell’em! The tone brought out a smile from the pup who just stood there wagging his tail, happy as can be. Connel didn’t suppress this sort of thing because Buster was indeed a “good boy”. Anyway, you were asking me what I do. Well. I started out training as a Guardian and Weapons Master. Well, things happened, I was hurt pretty bad and ended up in Bacta for awhile. I ended up getting a lot of cybernetics put in. Anyway I couldn’t do what I did before. I was afraid to even pick up a lightsaber. I ended up talking to my father, and a chat with Master Valery Noble, who suggested to path of a Shadow. I didn’t know if I could as that is something you train a long time for.

Well, I talked to my father, and while he was not enthused about the idea, being my father, he was also understanding that it was my path and made a call for a favor. I ended up training with Omega Squad as sort of a “crash course” in stealth tactics and special operations. We just clicked. Became closer and closer, and now we operate as one. I’m the only “Jedi”, if I even am technically one anymore, but we work together for the greater good.
He chuckled, wondering if that was a good idea to tell her so much, it didn't matter, she seemed pretty easy to talk to.

Your turn.
