SPECIAL FEATURES
  • The Wurlitzer is a unique jukebox located in the Rock Cafe which can tell the future and offer fortunes/advice through the medium of the songs it plays.
STRENGTHS
  • Musical Oracle: While most people may not care about song lyrics, the Wurlitzer uses them as a medium of communication. The lyrics to the songs it plays offer premonitions of future events, answers to questions, and even personal revelations.
WEAKNESSES
  • A Vague Fortune: Much like a fortune cookie, the forecasts and answers the Wurlitzer can offer are relatively vague and generally not of much practical use. The machine is more of an oddity or curiosity than a true oracle.
  • Coin Operated: The Wurlitzer can only be operated if coins are placed inside it. Not credits, coins. These have become quite a rare commodity in modern times, though not so rare that they cannot be manufactured or procured from an antique store.
  • Bolted to the Floor: Literally - the Wurlitzer is stuck in place at the Rock Cafe and cannot be moved. NB! While this object is Open Market and can be used by other characters without the creator's permission, you will have to get permission to have it moved to another location, damaged, or destroyed.
DESCRIPTION
The Wurlitzer has been at the Rock Cafe for as long as anyone can remember. It stands against one of the restaurant's walls, an unassuming fixture of the dining area. Many have assumed that it's just for decoration. The owner doesn't advertise its power or tell just anyone what it can do, although those she has told in the past have spread the word.

Because of this, rumors and stories involving the Wurlitzer abound. It's said that a group of gangsters were eating at the diner one night when the topic of whether or not they should kill off a potential police informant in their midst came up. One of them suggested they let the Wurlitzer decide the man's fate. The gangsters put a coin in the jukebox and waited for a song. Depending on who's telling the story, they either got "Bang Bang" or "Silence is Golden". Either way, the informant died... although his murder led to the gangsters involved getting arrested.

Another story describes a guy who had the hots for a girl, but he couldn't work up the courage to tell her. He knew about Wurlitzer, and he thought, maybe, that he could use it to tell the girl how he felt without actually telling her in his own words. He pulls her over to the jukebox, puts a coin in, and it plays "I Love You More Than Words Can Say". Awww. She didn't quite get it, though, and he wound up having to tell her anyway.

There are plenty more, but you get the point. The Wurlitzer is mysterious, inexplicable, and just plain weird, but that's part of the fun.
