I've been a member here for a little while, but I've just mostly been lurking until I saw the new Star Wars trailer. That, and some of the other things I've seen come out of the Anaheim convention have rekindled my interest in Star Wars.
I'm still thinking working on my character(s), but I think I will either start out with a military type, industrialist, or politician. As of now, I'm just poking around the group to get a lay of the land. I hope you don't mind if I have a million questions for you all.

The military is undergoing a pretty big shift because the Republic just went through a cataclysmic event (the netherworld board event). So there's a lot reequipping and reorganization going on with that.
We do work with the Jedi, although the closeness of the relationship varies between writers and the mission involved. There are pure jedi threads occasionally, and pure military threads too, but when it comes to fighting foreign powers (including the Sith, which we are at war right now, though it's kind of cold front currently), everyone bands together to get the job done.

Welcome to the GR - I see you've had most of your questions answered, but feel free to keep them coming.
There are multiple Jedi Orders across the board. Many are serving their respective Governments (like ours which serves the Republic) and some are independent (the Silver Jedi for example) and then there are just Jedi that roam the galaxy.

I never had aspirations of writing a Jedi character, mainly because just about every angle and permutation of every angle has been touched either here or abroad, and we're familiar with most of them. However inspiration has come along and saw fit to craft K0VA.
He'll be a challenging character, both to write and to interact with. However, not in the sense that it would be difficult to plot with, but his actions will need a lot of find tuning. Any questions about his origin or what he's like can easily be found in the profile.
Just a general greeting here, and seeing what kind of 'pops'.
