Freedon Nadd was an Old Republic Jedi prodigy whose conscious decision to embrace the dark side of the Force had a significant impact on galactic events for many generations after his death. Nadd's career began as a student in training on the planet Ossus, but a lust for greater power caused him to slay his Master, Matta Tremayne, and renounce his affiliation with the Jedi Order. He fled Ossus and made his way to the heart of the old Sith Empire, where he gained an enormous wealth of dark side knowledge. He eventually followed the Force to the jungle moon of Yavin 4, where he found and apprenticed himself to the ancient Dark Lord of the Sith Naga Sadow. Sadow trained Nadd in the Sith arts, and led the young Jedi even further down the dark path. When he determined that he had learned all his Sith Master had to offer, Nadd used his newfound powers to kill Sadow and left Yavin 4 behind in search of a world to conquer as his own. He proclaimed himself Dark Lord of the Sith, and used his sorcerous powers to subjugate the world of Onderon, where he ruled as king from the capital of Iziz for more than a hundred years until his physical demise. His body was entombed below the royal palace of Iziz, which became a focal point of Sith power. Nadd's spirit lingered in the tomb, from whence it taught the descendants of his bloodline and further steeped Onderon in the miasma that was the dark side of the Force.

What does any of this have to do with today?

Connel, fresh off of his most recent rounds of meditations, was led here, to Dxun, to follow up on one of the locations that his mother had given him to investigate. It made sense to start with him, as well as Uliq Qel Droma, or even Exar Kun. Sure, there were the “Revans” and “Malaks” of the galaxy, even the “Galen Mareks”… maybe he will get to them… but it started here for him.

Now, before anyone gets any ideas, Connel was more than smart enough to “call ahead”. He knew that while colleague Vince Vince was the Crown Prince of Onderon, a planet that Dxun was moon to, this was under the governance of the Mandalorian Empire, and so Connel made sure to contact “Mandalore” himself, Aether Verd Aether Verd for the permission to do so. He took no chances and asked for permission for “a group” (though he was going alone) just in case as well. This would come at the cost of the Mandalorians getting the Lion’s share of whatever he had found. This was really not the issue that it sounded like as Connel was really only looking for information. Even if he found a holocron, all he wanted was a conversation with what was inside.

Why?

Well, it starts with his father Caltin. Caltin Vanagor “walked the line” for a long time, he had every reason on the outside looks of him to be a Dark Lord of the Sith, but never came close to falling. Connel had this same physiology, this same belief, and the same training, but he wanted to know why. He wanted, not to conquer the Force, but to understand it all. Will it work? Maybe. Maybe not. However he was not going to just sit back and make fun of the Sith without having the knowledge to back it up. If it really was “the easy way out” he was going to know why.

He landed well enough away from the tomb of Freedon Nadd, now it was just a trek.

There were so many different things about this galaxy that made it wonderful. It all mattered on how you looked at things. Brooke Waters was once a Jedi and now a WItch, but more than that, she was a Selabite. One of only a few she figured were still in the galaxy at large, unless the others named successors. It didn’t matter, she kept doing the work. And that meant getting into the most mystical places of the galaxy.

Places a Jedi shouldn’t be going, unless that were really disciplined.

The world of Onderon was not one she traveled to lightly, but there was something in the Force calling her. Taking her semi-living ship, she landed and hid the vessel with a spell in the Force. This world was steeped in the dark side.

It was… seductive, slippery, cold, but… welcoming all the same. The blonde looked towards the tombs, hood pulled up.

It was odd that for a place so steeped in the energy and temptation that was the Dark Side, that it was so inviting. Even for thousands of years, the moon of Dxun looked like a camping trip. The trails, the beaches, the forests. Yet there was the tempting pull of the Dark Side, the voices repeatedly telling him to “just let it happen” and how he would “avenge his father if he just gave in”.

It all made Connel laugh to himself. If he let himself be manipulated, he would have let his father die in vain, not only that, he would be the coward he thought Sith were to be. That was the nature of the Dark Side though, wasn’t it? The promise of “easy progression” and “free stuff” makes you forget that there is no such thing as a “free lunch”, sooner or later someone is going to have to pay.

Then he sensed something, or should you say someone else. A ship had landed. Wait, what? How could he sense a ship? Well, he couldn’t but he could sense the different presence. He focused his attention, trying to pinpoint the source of the disturbance. The presence felt unfamiliar, yet strangely powerful. Was it a trap? Or perhaps an ally? Either way, Connel knew he had to tread carefully. The Dark Side was always full of surprises, and he wasn’t about to let his guard down now.

Nice try.

If they were coming for him, it would have to be at the tomb. He was going to find the tomb.

Tombs were not her favorite places, Brooke much preferred old libraries, old armories, things that were’t so full of wet bodies. Sure, she was a witch but she wasn’t one of those. She could do those spells, if she so chose, but honestly, she’d rather use her skills to make some form of a golem to help defend and protect her and her own. SHe may be able to work something up here but if she needed to? She could pull on the dead and bend them to her will.

She hated to, but it was easier than her getting into combat on her own.

Her lightsaber was on her belt, next to her blades.

The dry air hit her face as she made her way up the path. A pilgrim’s path, surely. She didn’t have the Sith very high in her mental regards, but they did pay homage to their past, that was for certain. As she did her best to reach out to the past, almost a post-congition, she was feeling the intent of the Sith who walked this path, all before feeling something strong, yet familiar.

The blonde would check it out, but first she wanted to complete her task of investigation here.

The tomb/temple was not far.

He was settled into a “Cover” position, as if setting a perimeter while “Gabriel” was doing some slicing, or “Azrael” was setting a charge. He was in front of the Tomb… it was the definition, the epitome, the very image of salaciousness, even now. It was more of a Temple, a Cathedral, a Castle over a tomb, not that he cared.

If this thing was in the shape it was now, it was clear that the tomb had been unkept ridiculously well. However even beyond that, there was something “off” about all of this. So, without further adieu, he pulled out his Black Hawkbat UAD and let it fly, pulling out the Mobile "Bodycam" Datapad and let it pair up with the device.

This would be his eyes, for however long.

The tiny flying drone floated in through the front door, something he would be stupid to do on his own, but the camera stream was giving a vibrant image of what to expect.

Would this last? Probably not, but even if someone was laying in wait in there, he knew where to go...

... even with the individual approaching... someone clearly not of the Dark Side.

You look familiar.

For her, she made the move with only a little technology, no longer depending on the ancient armor she used to carry. Most of the pieces were repurposed to give her other equipment, and broken down. She had her bag and it had her macrobinoculars, and a few power cells for a variety of doors that may need to be opened, or droids to be recharged.

But most of her gear? Arcane Force powers imbued into various bracers and charms around her.

Her robes were lightly imbued, but came from a fabric that was special to Arda, and linked in with several aquatic species skins, to keep her warm and give her protections. But now? She was working her way towards the Temple.

And there were droids around. That meant other beings. So, she was right. She called on the Force as the droid approached. A knife in her hand would glint with a supernatural light.

“And who is controlling you?” She muttered to the droid.

That droid was his own, it was BRAD.

BooEEEP: [Translation - I am B4-80 but you can call me “BRAD”. My friend, he doesn’t consider himself “Master”... Connel Vanagor is right around the corner. You will not be challenged to see him if you are going in the same direction. Have a wonderful day!]

Without really waiting, the droid happily rolled off, headed back to the ship

Connel was busy viewing the livestream of what his drone was sending back. It was odd, for a tomb, so old and beaten by the warrior of time, the inside was remarkably… well kept. Then as if on cue, once around a corner, the feed was lost.

Brooke didn’t need a droid. She had other witches, and Jedi to do her work for her. She was an Elder, and the very magick of the galaxy, of the Force, obeyed her. Though, when others used droids? She’d do what she could to entertain the machines.

Looking at the droid, she nodded.

“Hello, Brad.” She nodded as she looked at the droid. “I’m heading towards the temple, but yeah, I’ll come see Connel.” She’d worked with his father, several times, and it had been a while. Would be good to check in on him.

She may not look her age, thankful to smart spellcraft and genetics. She made her way to where the droid had indicated.

She would see Connel jump to his feet as the feed was lost. Not surprised that it happened, but still annoyed (he liked these little drones). Putting the datapad away and making a check of his gear, Connel looked Brooke’s way and nodded.

You were at my father’s wake, you were with Master Starchaser.. She may have known of him, but it was not the other way around. This was not meant to be anything negative toward the witch, it was simply that since then, he had been bombarded by people who knew Caltin. Either saying how great the man was, trying to point out something that they didn’t like, or trying to horn in on him willing away the old man’s stuff. He didn’t think that Brooke wanted anything, but he just couldn’t remember her name. They had probably been introduced.

Name’s “Connel”... pleasure… He offered a short, quick, respectful “bow”(which was more of a head nod). There’s something in there. Something dark, but something I need to get to. You’re not going to stop me are you?

The question wasn’t a threat or anything, nor the tone or any of his mannerisms, he just did not really want to have to deal with obstacles right now.

There was a use for droids, and she felt Connel was doing it right. Between exploration and ensuring safety, and combat, that was where droids and drones worked best. Watching him jump, she waved her hand. “No need to fear.” She was speaking in a calm, soft tone.

“I was. Yes, I’ve known your father for years, and Master Starchaser and I are colleagues. Part of the reason I met your father.” The blonde nodded as she looked around. “I’m Brooke Waters, of the Blue Coral Divers clan. Of Dathomir and Kattada.” A world Caltin had frequented once upon a time.

“Something dark, yes, I felt it. And stop you? Why would I stop you?” On her belt was a lightsaber, yes, but she was no Jedi. Once, maybe, but not any longer. “I was actually about to enter as well, perhaps we can watch each other’s back in there?”

She almost seemed offended when he asked if he was going to stop her. It was embarrassing for Connel, in a funny way and he offered a sheepish shrug.

You never know, until you ask, right? Her mention of Kattada brought back some good memories. Connel wasn’t much for the beach, or ocean, but they were still good days on their trips there.

Love Kattada… He noticed the lightsaber, and it made him instinctively want to check his gear again. The entryway, which yes, we should cover each other, the entryway is fairly straight forward, but something bothers me about what I saw.

He replayed the feed recording of the drone flying all the way, noting how well kept and up to date looking that the tomb looks to be. This was not a cult taking care of it, but it looked like a hiding place.

It’s just tequila and the beach
Most people knew Brooke, they’d seen her around, but many underestimated her. It wasn’t actually against her goals, either. She was a Witch, sure, establishing various settlements for corals and her own clan around the galaxy, but she also had a greater purpose in that, one part of it was the Selab, and finding old holocrons and hiding them away to keep them out of the wrong hands.

Connel responded well to Kattada, which was good. Coren Starchaser and then Vodet worked to ensure the world was almost a resort for the light side. Meant they were doing something right. And her Witches remained there in case people came and the Jedi were sidestepping, someone could defend the world.

She had no doubt that Connel would be able to keep the fight going if it came to him.

“Lets get moving?” She smiled and whispered a small spell, one of the knives in her hand extended in a flash of blue smoke, fading like seafoam in the air, into a larger lance, something to give her some reach. She looked odd standing there as she did, in robes of a witch, with a long reaching weapon, another spell and her robes became more leather armor, to offer freedom of movement at the very least.

The two of them were a Dichotomy of the Force, and of styles. Brooke was indeed NO slouch, living off of the phrase “Yeah, good luck with that.” Connel was a Weapon Master, plain and simple, a Shadow with a Guardian skill set. This would be an interesting partnership to say the least.

My mother would kill me for not saying “Ladies First”, but I think I should either draw attention or find better paths so… follow me. Absolutely no disrespect was intended as she was a witch, what couldn’t do, really?

As thought, the entryway was straightforward, there was a trap, but that was easily countered by one of Connel’s gadgets, to which he left behind to shut it down. The next two hallways were empty, but there was a presence in there, getting darker and darker. What he was paying the most attention to was the walls.Whoever is in here set up a “killbox” and we’re about to walk into it. Which of these idiots do you want? He pointed right at the open area in front of them. There were two groups. Figuring one for him and one for her.

It’s just tequila and the beach
It wasn’t that Brooke was dark, neither was Connel. However they were products of something that their family and mentors didn’t expect. Brooke could tell that Connel was the type of Jedi who would be more action oriented, something that the new crop of Jedi hadn’t had. She was not about to start asking questions of the temple and ruins before them. She was going to investigate, and if possible liberate some of the more darker teachings.

Lock it away.

“I mean, I wasn’t about to volunteer myself to go first.” The blonde could put up a wealth of weird Force powers, but she didn’t care to be shot at. Or have a trap explode on her. As she kept behind Connel, she smirked.

He had a lot of gadgets to fix the world around him. Idly, the witch wondered if he was open to learning some of her arcane skills. Entering the next room, the killbox, the blonde couldn’t help but grin. She spun her lance and it shrunk down to a knife again.

“I’ll go right.” A smile as there was a smoke like effect, reminiscent of water vapor or storm clouds around her hands. Her eyes turning a bit more blue as she stepped around the corner, a bank of fog enveloping the gathered on her side, before a spectral blue cephalopod formed, lashing out to the nearest two of her group.

Just a weak attempt at being funny. When it was time to work, Connel was not much for a sense of humor. It was a part of what he was able to separate between “work” and downtime. It also helped separate the sides of him.

Pulling one of his Force Blinding Flashbangs into his hand, he simply looked her way for but a moment and then said Avert your eyes, count to three, and have fun then… He was not trying to control the situation, she could watch if she wanted to, but she would be blinded for a moment, unless there is some witch spell that can counter that or something, who knows what they can do… I mean…

Focus…

Throwing it and looking away himself, he waited for the POP and then made way in, one of his Throwing Lightknives in one hand to which he sent flying into the chest of one of “his” group to get their attention, and then with “Night” of his Shortsabers (Night and Day) he tore into the others. It was short, it was sweet, some may say “brutal” but it was efficient and quiet.

Just like that he was securing the area and ready to move down the next corridor and ultimately into what was one of the main gathering halls. There room was huge, and looked to be full of the Dark Side, with users on the other side of the room.

It’s just tequila and the beach
This was something that she could do. What Brooke knew was that there were more weapons than the ones that threw fire or shot. Books, holocrons, especially the ones she sought were powerful weapons. She took the actual weapons and put them in safes on numerous worlds.

Same with holocrons.

But books? She traveled with those. Under her robes was a unique holster that did in fact hold at least one or two. An ancient Book of Tides from her clan, and until recently a book on using the Force for protection and healing. But having mastered those spells? She didn't carry that particular one.

It wasn't locked up. Just on her ship. And any book or holocron she found here? That'd get locked up.

As her cephalopod that she summoned worked its way to bind and disable the ones in front of her, she heard the call for averting her eyes, she looked at him and nodded.

Making their way down the hall. Brooke was taking in the decor and the stories it told. And when they made it to the other rooms, she pulled the hilt of her lightsaber out, and whispered a spell to change her dagger into the spear she used.

"Ready for them?" When he gave noticed they'd move she was ready to pull on the most intense of witch spells and teleport into the fray and back out, to distract.

Okay, that was cool. He said plainly. Connel never really had interest in spells or the like, but he could appreciate effective tactics and this was one.

Putting his shortsaber away, checking his Lightblaster before putting it back and then pulling three more Throwing Lightknives in one hand as he pulled another one of his Force Blinding Flashbangs into the other. When she asked him if he was ready for them, Connel’s initial thought was to scoff at the question, but he suppressed it quickly. She didn’t know him and had a right to ask.

Second verse, same as the first? He was of course referring to throwing a flashbag and then moving in. Unless you have a better idea? If you have something that could rush them, or an amazing spell or something?

It’s just tequila and the beach
Brooke had no issues with Connel taking lead, what she wanted to do was to make sure anything she was here for, or he was here for, was handled properly. Did it need to be fully intact? Not necessarily. Things could be repaired, and she was working on a spell to restore chaos to its previous intact state. Using the Force was her bigger weapon. Looking at him, she offered a wink.

“Sometimes the Witches just have to outdo the Jedi.”

As they approached the second room, she nodded at him. “We can… I have a spell that can flash them out. So you can save your gear. But I can also implant a sense of fear into them, not anything deadly, or even outrightly dark, but… bend their minds.” It was a glorified mind trick.

But it would also save on the body count.

“With pleasure.” Brooke said, her voice a bit excited. Only a minor hint of that other being within her. She was doing her best to keep them away as of late. She stepped forward and the Force was with her, a bit of blue-almost-smoke followed her step.

As she rounded the corner, she was engulfed in that obscuring smoke. Almost a steam-seafoam vision, but enough to cause someone to not be able to actively see her. Another second and she whispered a spell, throwing a small stone forward, as it hit, there was a bright flash as if of lightning, and a crack, of thunder. Not to mention the added benefit of essentially a Force shove from the epicenter.

With that, Brooke stepped back into cover, working another spell, whispering to the cephalopod pendant on her bracelet. Cooking up more ways to grasp and hold the beings her previous spell knocked down.
