Name: The Qu'un
Designation: Sentient
Homeworld: Zarnathea
Language: Among the Qu'un, there are two distinct languages, each spoken by the two main ethnic groups. The Nar'iin speak Nar'jyn, which roughly translates to Higher Singing. This is a combination of Galactic Basic and natural sounds the avian species produces.
The other language shares the name of it's speakers: Vax. This language is almost entirely nonverbal, communicated through movements of fingers, feathers, and eyes. It is extremely difficult for non-Vax to learn, and takes many years to master entirely.
Average height of adults: 3 meters
Skin color: The Nar'iin commonly have green scales, the Vax gray.
Hair color: The closest thing to hair the Qu'un have are feathers, which can come in green, red, orange, yellow, purple, and blue.
Breathes: Type 2 atmosphere
Strengths:
  • Physical Prowess: The Qu'un evolved from powerful predators, and are roughly twice as strong as an average humanoid.
  • Natural Armor: The Qu'un's scales are fairly tough, and provide limited protection from most basic melee weapons and weak slugthrowers.
  • Heat Vision: Their eyes are able to detect heat signatures, making tracking and seeing in dark environments easier.
Weaknesses:
  • Cold-Blooded: The Qu'un are cold-blooded reptiles, and cannot survive in extremes of either heat or cold.
  • Blasters: Due to their cold blood, the Qu'un can't handle extreme heat, such as blaster bolts. A few hits with blaster bolts will bake them alive.
  • Foreign Food: If foreign food is ingested in small amounts, the Qu'un experience minor nausea. If it is a large amount, then they quickly go into a comatose state and soon die.
Distinctions:
  • Four upper limbs, each outfitted with sharp talons.
  • The Qu'un are very tall, the average being around three meters.
  • Long tails that are capable of wrapping around and grasping objects, acting as a sort of seventh limb.
Average Lifespan: 200 standard years.
Races:
  • Nar'iin: These slender schemers have ruled over the Qu'un's homeworld of Zarnathea for centuries. They have worked with foreign powers to gain modern levels of technology, which they use to maintain control of the more primitive Vax tribes.
  • Vax: The warriors of the Qu'un, the Vax are split into dozens of nomadic tribes. These tribes pride themselves on hunting the most dangerous Zarnathean wildlife, as well as performing constant raids on any foreign presence on Zarnathea. They insist on boycotting the use of any foreign technology, and still use the primitive technology they have been using for thousands of years.
Estimated Population: 4.5 billion Vax, 1 billion Nar'iin, 5.5 billion in total. Only found on Zarnathea.
Diet: Small wildlife, plant life. Cannot ingest most foreign foods.
Communication: Speech and body movement.
Culture:
  • Religion: The Qu'un practice a combination of ancestral worship and animism. According to this belief, the spirits of the dead are reincarnated as Zarnathean wildlife. The Vax tribes take this belief much more seriously than their Nar'iin counterparts.
  • Clothing: The Nar'iin have conservate full-body clothing, with only their face being seen. The Vax wear little clothing, in order to maintain fast movement in their nomadic travels.
  • Mating Rituals: Among the Nar'iin, mating lasts for life, two individuals birthing entire broods over their two hundred year lifespan. The Vax, on the other hand, mate constantly, and usually not with the same partner.
  • Sports: Taking a cue from their foreign idols, the Nar'iin's main sport is holochess, something they view as very telling of someone's intellect. The Vax enjoy a plethora of violent and athletic sports, including wrestling, handball, and relay races.
  • Military: The Qu'un military is made up of mercenaries brought in from foreign powers, with few Nar'iin and Vax scattered in. The main purpose of this military is to put down Vax uprisings.
  • Adulthood Rituals: In order to be considered an adult among the Vax, young are sent to the deepest cave on Zarnathea, the Karron, where they must survive for five years. If they succeed, they are now an adult and allowed to join hunts, raids, and claim a mate.
Technology level: The Nar'iin maintain a modern technology level, while the Vax tribes are centuries behind.
General behavior: The Nar'iin act the same as any other capitalist culture, for the most part. They work hard every day, pay taxes, and delight in exploring foreign culture. The Vax are nomadic, and make their way through the jungles and mountains of Zarnathea, following the animals they hunt, while stopping to raid Nar'iin and foreign holdings on the planet.
History: The history of the Qu'un has always been intertwined with death. Evolving from reptilian predators, the first Qu'un formed into nomadic tribes. Fighting every day for survival against the deadly wildlife, they became powerful hunters and warriors, creating techniques and beliefs still upheld by the primitive Vax tribes.
During the height of the Old Republic, settlers were sent to Zarnathea, and discovered the Qu'un. The reptiles did not appreciate the foreign presence, and slaughtered the settlers. Over the next four thousand years, the Qu'un fought off any and all settlers. Until the Galactic Civil war, that is.
A sizable portion of the Qu'un, now known as the Nar'iin, worked with Imperial officials to establish their presence on Zarnathea, in exchange for modern technology and Imperial support. Over the next eight hundred years, this newfound dependence on technology led to the Nar'iin evolving away from their Vax counterparts.
The Nar'iin used this support to establish their control over the Vax, enslaving them. The Nar'iin embraced foreign culture, moving into an Industrial Revolution, leaving the tribes behind. They settled a small corner of the planet, the only place where aliens are guaranteed to be safe.
But when the Gulag Plague hit, the Nar'iin immediately cut off all contact with the outside galaxy. For four hundred years, Zarnathea was silent. Unknown to the galaxy, the Nar'iin were ravaged by the plague, wiping out over half of their population. The Vax avoided such an outbreak by ceasing all contact with the Nar'iin, hiding in the mountains and jungles.
But the Nar'iin eventually recovered around the same time as the rest of the galaxy, and once more worked with foreign powers to maintain control. But during the Netherworld event, millions of the Qu'un disappeared. With their smaller population, the Nar'iin were crippled, encouraging the Vax to commit to the largest uprising in their history, pulling the Qu'un into a bloody civil war that they fight to this day.

So reading over the sub, it's quite well put together and detailed. I did have a few questions though.
  • Exactly how much stronger than a normal humanoid are the Qu'un? 1.5x? 2x?
  • How exactly did their evolution split them into the two subsects of the overall species?
  • How heavy can the species get? I ask this because you mention gliding abilities and I need to know how they are capable of this

2x. Added that in to the Strengths section.

After the Nar'iin gained modern technology and lived in cities, they evolved away from the Vax, who still lived in the jungles. Added this into history.

The gliding thing was somewhat spur of the moment, and after further thought, I have decided to get rid of that aspect.

Let me know if further edits are required.
