Campaign The Lunar Shroud | The Enclave

WaGYyvp.png

C H A P T E R
T H R E E

The War for Kestri continues.

The Enclave was no longer aware what, or who, they faced. Not only were they fighting the Praetorite Remnant, an ancient and twisted faction of extragalactic Yuuzhan Vong that had mutated and evolved under Kestri’s harsh conditions, but the fauna and weather of the planet as well. But they also knew what they were fighting for.

It was vital that they recover all the keys to the Mind Forge, the sentient and intelligent Forge that required no operator to fabricate and control weapons of great power. Such an ally would be vital for the Enclave; similarly, the Mind Forge would be a terrifying foe, and if it was lost to the enemy then it would be a devastating blow to the Mandalorian people. Kestri had the potential to be a new Mandalore, a secret kept from all the galaxy except those who would seek refuge there.

But first, Kestri needed to be won back.

They’d fought in the catacombs of the Temple of Javarr. They’d swam through the sinking docks, facing terrors of the deep. But now, the Praetorite Remnant was becoming more and more utilitarian. Their leader, the High Priest Bolg’orok, had decreed that these Mandalorian intruders be exterminated. And so in secret a force of Vong had been dispatched to Kestri’s moon to establish their first step of a counterattack: a series of sensor shrouds preventing transmissions from being sent or received.

There was only a limited number of Mandalorians on-world when the shroud began broadcasting. Now, they are the only ones who can destroy the shroud, lest they be stranded on the planet for who knows how long.
wpo98nx.png
  • Descend into the co-opted facility to destroy the Vong tech placing the system under a broadcast shroud. Expect heavy resistance, and do not expect any reinforcements. You’re on your own.

d74lANo.png
  • Wyrmhaven: Scout data of the moon has shown that there are large tunnels that traverse through the moon’s crust and minor tremors that shake it periodically. Any number of strange or mutated monsters could be here; you are here to ensure that they do not disturb the team destroying the shroud.

Aloy had gotten here first by the look of it, No doubt to be joined my vode following right behind her, But she learned last time not to kick back and waste time so early. So, She had gone ahead and snuck up to the entrance of the station on Kestri's moon, Preparing to breach and clear.

The only sound she could hear was her own heavy breathing as she clambered the wall and up to the roof of the moon base's entrance, Magnetizing herself in place with her one clawed limb and then getting to work omni-cutter, Cutting a nice circular door for herself and her fellow Enclave members right through the ceiling.

Sure enough, The circular piece drifted away in the zero gravity setting and she was able to peek in upside down, Immediately spotting two of the Vong grunts that had come to investigate as soon as the airflow had gone.

∗Kachu∗ ∗kachu∗ The loud pop of her firefly particle pistols quickly dispatch the two vong grunts, Burning right through their sternums as Aloy gently floats down, Using her custom jetpack's multitude of thrusters to turn herself upright and then magnetize her feet to the floor again.

::"This is Aloy; Downed two fuglies by the entrance and cut you a door in the roof. Would y'all hurry it up? This place is creeeeepy! Swear the moon's haunted...":: She sighs inter her commlink while covering the hallway, Waiting for the others to arrive now that she'd made herself useful.

Karking karkface of a karking fish.

His ribs got patched up well enough but there was still the LITTLE KARKING FACT OF A KARKING HOLE IN HIS ARMOUR!

He was in a mood.

His hands clenched around the controls of the Outlander as he made his way to the damn moon to go and kick some more funny looking alien butt. He grumbled incoherently the entire way. How many more of these things are they going to have to fight? Dear Hoth. They just didn't seem to get any less.

He had just landed on the lunar surface when Aloy's voice rang over the comms, telling him and the rest that she had just shot down two more mongrels.
"Greeeeeat. We're off to an excellent start." he replied sarcastically over the comms as he bounced out of his fighter and towards the facility's roof to where she had said she had cut the hole.

He dipped his head through the hole, his hands gripping against the edge to keep him in place.
"Why don't you paint it any more creepy, Vod? I'm sure the others would love to hear exactly how haunted it is." he quipped at her jokingly before kicking his jetpack to life to assist him to the bottom.
"Now, friends. Do us all a favour and get your asses onto this surface so that we can finish this and the kark out of here." he said over the comms to the rest that were still inbound.

Leenic hated space.

No, he hated being in space. The whole feeling of nothingness, and the absolute dead silence were enough to make a man go insane. He was used to there always being noise, whether the distant sirens of a chase in the underbelly of coruscant or a low wind whistling across the dry terrain of Tatooine, it seemed Leenic was always hearing something in the background.

But in space? Well, the only background noise he would get was the soft sound of him breathing and the sound of his jetpack's thrusters pushing him through the vacuum. Must be why they call it "dead space". He thought, checking his fuel levels as he approached the old base. He was at about 70% fuel, (the counter was old, and as such could be off by a few percent) being as he had decided to leave his U-Wing (and its droid pilot) well out of range of any surface-to-air missiles it might have. His rangefinder showed he will still 500 meters out, so he decided to cut thrust and simply drift towards his destination in order to save fuel.

After a few moments of this drift, however, Aloy's voice came over the comms to inform everyone that she was inside. Leenic figured it best to just keep quiet as to not accidentally get into a conversation that would swamp the channel with unnecessary chatter, so he simply altered his position to change trajectory towards where she (and, hopefully, a small army of vods) said she was waiting. Once in position, he kicked his thrusters into high gear and shot off towards the base.

He approached the hole that Aloy had cut in the ceiling just as Vren Rook descended into it and made his quip over the coms. Deactivating his jetpack, Leenic flipped himself over so that the bottom of his boots were positioned toward the hole and (he hoped) he would land onto the floor of the base. "Incoming." He said over comms, pulling his ST-W48 off his back and slipping through the hole. "Try not to be under my boots."

Leenic collided with the floor of the base hard, forcing him to roll to avoid breaking a leg. He let out a soft grunt when he did, his jetpack and armor not allowing for much flexibility and causing him to ricochet off of the floor and collide with the roof. "Karabast." He growled, looking down at Aloy and Rook before giving them a wave.

"Howdy." Was all he said before he magnetized his boots to the ceiling and stood up. "How many more are on their way?"

Kranak was flying overhead with his Gunship to find a good spot to land on Kestri’s Moon. The terrain down below was mostly dotted with craters and hills. He had managed to find a good spot to land after his second flyby around the area. There was another ship there as well. Intriguing. He assumed he would have been the first one to make his way to the moon for the mission. Upon closer inspection, he saw the ship was The Screech Owl, his Clan Alor’s personal ship. Her ship was powered down at the moment, with the engines starting to cool down, as the engines heat signatures had started to dissipate slowly. He lowered his speed and altitude to land near The Screech Owl. He lowered his landing gear as he lowered his altitude. He had lost enough speed to hover above the ground. His Gunship’s landing gear touched down shortly after. He turned off his ship’s engines and stood up from the pilot’s seat, making his way to his Gun Cage within his quarters. He grabbed his Z-6 and four detpacks from the crate that contained the explosives. He made sure to pack extra magazines for his Rotary Blaster Cannon before he closed the Gun Cage. He wore his ECM-598 Backpack behind his back before he left his personal quarter.

His commlink crackled into life and heard someone speak into the commlink when he made his way out of his quarters and into the main cabin of the ship, headed for the Gunship’s boarding ramp. He was using The Enclave’s commlink frequency at the time. He assumed it was Aloy, but he couldn’t make anything out of the comms chatter as the message was heavily distorted. The Vong’s jammer must’ve also affected Short Range communications. Maybe short range comms would improve if he was closer to the broadcast. He interacted with the boarding ramp’s controls using his wristlink and lowered the ramp and walked out. He closed the ramp once he was out and started to make his way to the Vong’s moon base. He was about half a klick away from the target. Since the gravity was very low on the moon, he decided to leap into the air and activate his rocket boots to cover the distance to the moon base swiftly. At this speed he would reach the moon base shortly.

As he suspected, it didn’t take him too long. The target structure was within sight now. He was about a hundred meters away from the moon base. He decided to cover the remaining distance on foot as he raised his feet forward to slow down and land on the ground. His black Kama gently flailed as he came to a halt and landed on his feet. He kept his guard up, keeping his Z-6 on low-ready as he jogged the rest of the path cautiously. He spotted movement to his twelve o’clock, about fifty meters away. It was a four man Vong patrol. Additionally he spotted movement in the distance. The Vong were converging on the facility swiftly. <That’s not good.> He wasn’t sure if Aloy was spotted or not. He didn’t know if she took the silent approach or went in guns blazing. She’d be dealing with a lot of them if she was spotted. Potentially, he could divide the Vong’s forces between him and Aloy. With any luck they’d get some backup from other fellow vode joining the fight.

He chose to engage the enemy. He prioritized the contacts closest to him first, the four man Vong patrol. They had their backs turned to him as they made their way back to their moon base, so they hadn’t spotted him yet. He raised his Z-6 and assumed a fighting stance and opened fire. A hail of blue blaster bolts had cut down the patrol in moments, with the dust kicking off around him as he fired. His Z-6 had some kick, but he could manage the recoil easily thanks to his strength. The recoil was also not enough to flung him backwards. He was heavy enough not to be flung in near zero gravity while he opened fire.

<That should get their attention.>

It sure did. He was seeing increased enemy activity coming from the moon base. They were rallying outside to converge on his position. They hadn’t engaged him yet. He had to be outside the effective range of their ranged weaponry. He aimed his Z-6 at the enemy reinforcements rallying outside shortly after he eliminated the patrol. His rotary blaster cannon spun as it winded up when he held down the trigger, unleashing another volley aimed at the crowded ranks of the Vong moments after. <Man, I should use this thing more often.> He thought to himself as he started to walk towards the moon base, firing on the move mostly. He’d occasionally hold his position to put down accurate fire when it was necessary, but he needed to reach the base and reinforce Aloy. He would try to use his commlink to reach her when he deemed he was close enough to the moon base.

There was a loud humming sound as the power coils continued to charge, broken only by the occasional static-buzz of the comms system as it struggled to find a functional bandwidth. Nix idly tuned the comm system with a finger, having long since given up any hope of finding a reliable connection with anything outside of the system, and checked the capacitor read-out once again. Beneath the ornate filigree of her helmet her expression was grim. She had arrived only shortly before the blackout and had only learned of the Vong presence through the few scattered messages she had been able to intercept from fellow Enclave members in the system, but none of it seemed like good news. The Vong were not the typical pirates and scavengers that her people had been reduced to hunting since the Fall: this was a foe that was almost their equal when it came to the art of war. Almost.

A loud snap broke her train of thought as the capacitor discharged into the Cin'galar's sensor array, and almost immediately the ship's information panels began to flood with information about the moon below. The ship's sensors could not penetrate deep into the regolith, but even so it became immedately clear that the moon was far less structurally sound than it appeared. Of particular note, beside the strong return being pinged back to her from the large, metallic structure which had drawn many of her compatriots, was the huge number of ravines and craters that spread out like canals across the moon's surface. She cocked her head slightly as she interpreted the contour lines.

"All Mando'ade in the area, this is Nix Avyena. I have located an entrance into the tunnel system previously detected by the scout drones. I am moving now to enter the tunnel system to determine its possible link to the Vong signal-jamming operation. Out," she stated, before beginning the descent towards the surface and into the cavernous tunnel entrance.

Mig leaned back from the copilot seat as an astromech flew the ship. He was flying tandem with Nix Avyena, a Mandalorian he’d never worked with before. Either way, he trusted another vod could help get the job done. Also the former slave hauler, stolen by his clan when they were running through space, didn’t have the best scanning equipment. He sighed a little, adjusting some settings before hearing the transmission. Or at least cuts of it.

“I... kind of hear you. Coming in behind.” The creatures here already hurt his sister. He wouldn’t let these unnatural things hurt someone else.

"Copy that Nix, I'm en route to assist." Kandosii replied over the comms, hoping it was able to get through the jamming. As the autopilot brought the gunship on its approach, he stood up from his pilot's seat to retrieve his BR-6B from his weapons cabinet, tucking two magazines of SLAP ammo into his bandolier and loading a third into the rifle itself. Hunting some runners on the Wheel was one thing, but Vong creatures were completely different beasts altogether. Of all the things he had fought in the past, the Vong were not among them. He hoped he was ready for this. Probably not leavin' without some new scars, he thought.

Putting his rifle next to the seat, Kandosii sat once again in the pilot's seat, disengaging the autopilot and manually maneuvering the gunship into the tunnel that Nix had entered. What horrors await below, he wondered. Best not to think too hard about it. Just face 'em as they come. He shook his head, attempting to shake away the anxiety as the Jate'kara flew through the tunnels, following behind Nix and Mig.

Fething Kestri again.

Siv, for the most part, didn't mind travelling to distant planets and learning more about the galaxy. But when said planet seemed to concoct a new way to try and kill him every time, he anticipated each next mission just a little less. And when the data had come in -- tremors on Kestri's moon that had to be investigated, large tunnels crisscrossing through its mantle -- well, it hadn't been inviting. But he could use the credits, and it wasn't like the Enclave didn't pay well.

His new CVT-48 Outlander-class Starfighter reverted onto the well-trodden path through space down into Kestri's atmosphere, but before he could descend down the gravity well he took a sharp turn, putting him on the unfamiliar vector for interception with Kestri's moon. He could make out the grey planetoid, seemingly devoid of life, though according to the data he'd been given it still had somewhat of a breathable atmosphere. As his starfighter touched down on the planet, and he exited with a leap, his assumption about a lack of life on the planet seemed to be true, to a certain extent.

But it wasn't completely barren. Something had to be making those holes. And as he bounded in half-standard gravity across the grey terrain, he could see wide, cavernous mouths that served as above-ground entrances to the network of tunnels that ran underneath. He was definitely sure he did not want to meet whatever was down there.

Apparently he wasn't the only one there either. His comm burst with static before clearing as the voice of a female came through, informing any Mandalorians on the network that she'd found what looked to be a promising entrance to the tunnel. A few other unfamiliar voices, and one familiar voice -- that of Vaux Gred -- responded that they were moving to assist, so Siv did as well. "I'll be right there," he said shortly into his comm as he pinpointed the location of the outgoing transmission and began to make his way over.

In the half-standard gravity, movement across terrain was much less cumbersome and altogether faster once you got used to the lack of weight you felt. Siv had been environments like these before -- being a Bounty Hunter took you to a lot of strange places across the galaxy -- and it wasn't long before he was at the entrance of the tunnel. . . to see a bunch of ships fly past and into. Chit, he thought. He had assumed they would be going on foot, but it looked like that wouldn't be the case. "This is Siv, I'm going in on foot," he reported begrudgingly into the open channel before drawing his blaster pistol with one hand and turning on his glowrod attachment with another.

Now would be a stupid time to die.

The walls of the tunnel bulged and contoured ominously in the harsh lights of the three ships. It was certainly wide enough for them all, but it may be that the fourth Mandalorian was correct in his decision to progress on foot. If it had just been herself then she would have proceeded, but the risk of collision or knocking rocks loose from the wall was too high with so many ship there.

Nix carefully rested the ship down onto the floor of the tunnel. The surface was surprisingly soft, although that wasn't uncommon on such a small moon - without gravity to compress the world it was inevitable than the regolith would be less compact than on a larger body. She left the lights on and proceeded to exit the ship, stopping only to gather a flashlight attachment for her Beskar'gam. With the light beaming out from her shoulder, she exited the ship and headed in the direction of Siv, who was illuminated by a glowrod.

"Well met, vod," she stated before bringing up a holomap from her datapad, the blue light mixing with Siv's glowrod and her own torch to create a bizarre lightshow. "My ships scanners could only penetrate so far, but it seems this tunnel leads into the greater network that was observed by the scouts." She glanced around the tunnel for a moment, orientating herself. The entrace had led them into a large cavern, but there were two possible paths they could take. "That way should lead us toward the Vong signal-jamming operation," she pointed, "although the reverberations are strongest in that direction."

There was a sudden noise from the second tunnel, a low rumbling followed by a distant cacophony of shrills and shrieks which echoed through the large cavern. Nix drew her blaster and cycled her visor through several vision modes. Nothing, at least not yet, but it was hard to escape the feeling that the group of Mandalorians were being watched.

On a mission such as the one on Kestri, it should come as no surprise that the Si'kahya were deployed to fight alongside the Karjr. Cerar's Akaanir-class Gunship made a rapid descent to the surface, and upon locating the signal of his Vizsla clanmates he set it down by their own ships. Setting the gunship down he wasted no time rushing to his gear and shouldering his blaster's refrigerant tank, hefting it effortlessly onto his broad back as if were a child's toy, before charging it with a pump of the cannon's foreguard.

Grinning widely behind his helmet's T-visor, Cerar descended his ship's boarding ramp with haste and hurried to group up with his vode, using his Taak'tabi boots to enhance his leaps and bounds. Surprisingly fast for someone of his immense stature, his clanmate Kranak was soon in sight. "Si'kahya olar at patka.", his voice resounded over the comms to Kranak. "Coming up on your shebs." The Warden came to a sliding stop beside the fellow Vizsla like an avalanche of iron and muscle, letting off a burst from his MWC-35c at a huddled mass of Vong. "Jate at ret', vod."

Kandosii put his gunship down next to Nix's vessel, picking up his battle rifle and shouldering it, before exiting it to join her outside. He lowered his helmet's rangefinder, switching his visor to a low-light mode, and took position by Nix's side. He momentarily bowed his buy'ce in lieu of an introduction "I've got your back," Kandosii said in a low voice. The cloud of uncertainty still hung in the air like a distant storm cloud, certainly there but not currently oppressive.

Then the noise came, and his attention snapped in its direction. That didn't sound good at all.

His hands gripped the rifle with white knuckles, ready to squeeze off a shot at a moment's notice. The metaphorical cloud was overhead now, and he could tell lightning was bound to strike any second. He just hoped that his SLAP rounds could penetrate the hide of whatever was in there with them. If they couldn't....well, he'd say at least he had a good life, but that'd be a lie. So Kandosii just hoped.

A sweep with a gunship from a fellow Enclave member, and Obran was headed down. The ca'tra jair in his armor allowed him impressive mobility, and in this environment it was certainly helpful. Aloy came over the comms as he was streaking in from high observation where his ride had let him off. Checking the belt feed of the abomination of a slugthrower he was hefting, he flew in hot. Hands and arms put aside like a missile, he comm'd ahead as he streaked towards the hole, to avoid being pinned down by any stray vong.

Meters before the hole he spun into a tight ball and kicked out his feet and hands towards the floor, propulsion devices in them screaming as he divertd every bit of the suits considerable power reserves into them. They screamed white-hot and a moment later he clanged to the floor with a clip of mag-boots, crouched slightly as he stood, hefting the shotgun with it's belt-fed payload to his shoulder, free hand checking various knives and explosives, and nodding in greeting to Aloy.

The rest got a collective grunt as he scanned the room and gave time for his suit to equalize. Some day he was going to have to learn to fly well enough to make a less dramatic entrance. But shocktroopers weren't meant to be subtle. They were meant to draw fire and kark things up in new and unique ways that would draw even more fire. And at that mission, Obran excelled. Controlled battlefield chaos was his calling, and the last deployment with the Enclave should prove that.

Screens flickered. The armor was being sluggish. He grunted. He needed to make his own, soon. But the thought of putting aside the durasteel of his father, even adopted, made him sad and helped to postpone the goran from making a suit more befitting a man of his talents. Protector colored gear turned to regard them all and he grinned behind his visor.

"Am I interrupting family time? Shall we then?"

Blue blaster bolts filled the air as he laid down fire upon the Vong gathering outside, accompanied with the roar of his rotary blaster cannon. The big Mandalorian had started to close in on them, as he fired on the move. He was taking return fire from the Vong now. The Vong were using quite an unconventional weapon. They appeared to be using a Chitin Carbine, or some form of chitin based weaponry that fired a small, disc-shaped -at the size of his clenched fist- chitinous being at him. He had never seen Vong or their “Tech” before, so this was new to him. As interesting their weapons were, they weren’t the best shots around. Their “discs” were missing him quite a lot; either falling too short or flying overhead. Though occasionally one or two would strike his upper chest plate. It wouldn’t do any damage. The most they did was to cover him in bug juice, as the discs pulverized on his chest plate upon impact.

He felt something flying overhead while he continued firing. He glanced up to see what it was. It was an Enclave Gunship, Oya’karir class; accompanied by a YV Freighter. They were flying towards bearing 320, due northwest. He wasn’t sure why, but then his commlink came to life briefly.

"All Mando'ade in the area, this is Nix Avyena. I have located an entrance into the tunnel system previously detected by the scout drones. I am moving now to enter the tunnel system to determine its possible link to the Vong signal-jamming operation. Out,"
The comms message was garbled -not as heavily garbled as Aloy’s from earlier-, but somewhat audible. It was a fellow vode. She identified herself as Nix Avyena. He was glad there wasn’t just him and Aloy on the ground. More would join, he assumed. Shortly after he spotted another Enclave Gunship in the distance. That one was an Akaanir class. The Akaanir was flying towards the two ships he spotted earlier. They would take a different path into the Lunar Base, then.

He crouched down to stop and reload his Z-6. It was about to run out of juice. Just as he crouched, he received a disc right in the center of his faceplate. He wasn’t expecting that. He was taken aback as he frowned, falling backwards when he lost his footing. The bug juice covered much of his visor. <Ah, disgusting!> He still needed to reload, however. He quickly reached for a magazine as he sat on the ground. He swapped his rotary blaster cannon’s powercell with a fresh one shortly. His barrel was not yet overheated. It would take him a lot more shots for it to start heating up, so he wasn’t worried about warping the barrels any time soon. He wiped his visor with his left hand in an attempt to get better visuals while more discs landed on and around him. The thing was smudged all over his visor, but he managed to improve his vision after wiping it for a moment. He gripped the handle of his Z-6 and continued to lay down fire on the Vong as he sat on the ground.

"Si'kahya olar at patka.", his voice resounded over the comms to Kranak. "Coming up on your shebs."
He heard a familiar voice over the commlink. He wasn’t garbled at all. The big Mandalorian assumed he was transmitting from close proximity to him. He looked over his left shoulder to see who it was. His frown changed to a big smile after seeing who it was. The towering presence behind him was his fellow clansman, Cerar! [“Oya, vod!”] The big Mandalorian roared. There was a strong sense of rejoice in his sonorous voice.

"Jate at ret', vod."
[“Tisitu, ner vod.”] the big Mandalorian replied to Cerar, as he stood up and regained his footing. He unleashed a flurry of blue blaster bolts at the Vong the moment after he stood up. Their numbers were starting to thin out. He nodded towards the Lunar Base as he spoke. [“We got to get into that compound to proceed with the mission. I’m not sure what other route the others are taking, but this is going to be more of a frontal assault. It’s most likely that we’ll be taking the brunt of their forces.”] He wasn’t sure where exactly Aloy was; he also wasn’t sure where exactly the others would be infiltrating the moon base. They were going to be on their own until they regrouped with their fellow vode. [“Come on, let’s show them what we're made of!”] Kranak said, as he got closer to the Lunar Base while he fired on the move. The base entrance was about fifty meters to his bearing 005. Along with Cerar, the two would make quick work of the remaining Vong forces in close proximity as they approached the entrance.

It wasn't long after that Obran dropped in dramatically as always with his own snarky comment just like everyone on this damned moon and wielding the ugliest abomination a scattergun she'd ever seen, Though it looked effective nonetheless.
"Am I interrupting family time? Shall we then?"

<"Yeah yeah
yeah, Tight hurry up and wait. Why don't you take point with that fugly thing and I'll tell Kranak to-"> It was just now that she noticed Leenic standing on the damned ceiling which almost made her laugh if not for the impending vong threat
"Howdy."Was all he said before he magnetized his boots to the ceiling and stood up. "How many more are on their way?"

<"Heh. We're two Vizsla's short but they decided to make look bad, Haven't heard chit from Kranak or his friend since we landed... Obran's feeling impatient so it's time we move!"> Aloy says in an impatient tone, Standing up after checking her pistols one last time and nodding to Obran as she begins marching forward at a brisk pace with both guns forward.
hadn't even noticed the change in tone recently, The way she spoke like she had some authority here, Or tried to assign people posts like she'd done Obran a moment ago. Being an Alor and previously commanding the Nite Owls had changed her in a way, Given her a take charge attitude that her younger self would have despised.

But of course, She wasn't that little bounty hunter from Concordia anymore. Now she was fighting for her very survival, The survival of the Enclave and of House Vizsla. Though she would always be that rowdy rag-tag mercenary, The weight of that responsibility was still there.

The freighter would slowly go in to land, and the Mandalorian would walk off the ramp as he looked at the others. He would look at the others, smiling under his helmet.

"Well, tat, this looks like the Rishii moon." He sighed a little, hearing a droid roll behind him. This place was definitely not Concord Dawn. Cold and full of Vong and monsters. He would then look at Siv, nodding to him.

"Sorry Vaux couldn't make it. Hope I'll be a good substitute." He hadn't worked often with any of the others here, but this would be interesting for sure. The Mandalorian would lean back a little before hearing the shrieks. He looked into the tunnels, using his HUD to make sure it wasn't anything to close. He took another breath, looking at the others as he tried to reach out.

"I don't feel anything, but that doesn't say much. It's never been that good at mental stuff. Plus if the Vong are involved Grogu himself couldn't feel them."

The tunnels continued to rumble and tremble as Siv made his way further inside. One by one a fellow Mandalorian joined him, and he nodded to each of them in return. "Sorry to hear that," he even grunted when Mig remarked that Vaux wouldn't be able to make it. That wasn't Siv being sarcastic, either -- Vaux was a good fighter with a solid head. A worthy opponent and an even worthier ally.

Anticipation grew as the four Mandalorians continued down the tunnel, the dim light from the entrance growing dimmer with each step. The silence was broken only by the sounds of boots crunching against powdered rock, the occasional clinking of armor, the occasional click of a blaster component. He could hear is own breathing in the otherwise dead silence. But there was something, another sound, growing. Not a sudden brust of noise, but the gradual growth of an approaching object of large mass and at fast speeds.

The rumble turned into a roar. And as that roar became one not from movement, but from something large, guttural, and very much alive, Siv knew that there wouldn't be any time to inspect what was apporaching them. "Find cover!" he suddenly barked, springing into motion. "Get out of the main path, now!" He dove to the side, squeezing into a crevice just wide enough to host him. For a moment his glowrod continued to illuminate the wide cavernous tunnel -- until that light shone onto a mass of moving grey flesh slithering through, just a meter from his face.

Great. There were space worms on Kestri's moon.

Kandosii scrambled to get out of the path, diving aside not a moment too soon. "Dank farrik!" he shouted, barely able to hear himself over the loud rumbling and noise the creature made as it passed. Giant kriffing worms. Not nearly enough ammo to deal with that thing even if he wanted to. And sure, killing that thing would be an accomplishment in and of itself, but who wanted a worm as their signet?

"Everyone okay?," Kandosii asked over comms, before checking his scanners to make sure the others were able to get out of the way in time. He was breathing heavily under the helmet, but he had the common decency to not transmit that to the rest of them. Kandosii was bewildered by the size of the creature. Did their ships survive, or were they crushed by the worm like they nearly had been, flattened like space pancakes? Shaking his head again, he mumbled another curse beneath his breath as his head poked around the corner to see if the way forward was clear, rifle barrel poking out with it. Whatever was there (or wasn't), he was close to ready as he was going to get.

[“Tisitu, ner vod.”]

As his kinsman replied to him, Cerar helped pull up Kranak, spraying a volley of rapid-fire blasts in the Vong's direction to try and suppress them long enough for Kranak to regain his balance.

[“We got to get into that compound to proceed with the mission. I’m not sure what other route the others are taking, but this is going to be more of a frontal assault. It’s most likely that we’ll be taking the brunt of their forces.”] ...[“Come on, let’s show them what we're made of!”]

"Heh, fine by me," Cerar said with a grin, pumping the action of the cannon and firing a powerful blast that completely erased a Vong's head from their body. He took a few bug discs to the chest, but he shrugged off the impact and returned fire, their weapons not having much effect against his heavy beskar plate. Cerar pumped the action again and using his Bone Marchers (also aided by the lower gravity) he propelled himself forward and drove a crushgaunt through a Vong's armor, finishing them off with the charged shot. Pleased with his handiwork he jogged to take position next to his vod as they approached the base's entrance, letting his blaster cool for a moment.

"After we're done here we need to catch up, Kranak. Me, you, and a bottle of ne'tra gal," Cerar offered during a moment of calm. The relative peace back at the Enclave made him relish times like these that much more. Checking his ammo count, he prepared himself for whatever Vong awaited them inside the base. Still plenty left, which was good. No point wasting all his shots on the appetizer when the main course was sure to come soon.

Leenic looked up (or was it down?) at the Mandalorians standing on the floor, studying each of them and trying to figure out what type of people they were. The group assembled here was certainly interesting, and he noted that each seemed to bring a differing personality to the table.

He didnt think that the mission would ever become boring with Vren hanging around, if his sarcasm was any indicator to that factor. Although, from the way the man's armor looked, he could tell he would probably be someone to rely on in a fight.

He had met Aloy twice before, but this time she seemed to posses more of a command presence than he remembered. Not to say it was a bad thing or anything, he was actually glad to have someone leading the mission.

Obran had one of the most unique weapons he had ever seen, it actually managed to be the first one to make him internally gag. However, he had learned from experience (mainly with his own outdated and rusted armor) that external appearances rarely conveyed the effectiveness of equipment, so he felt it would make a usefull asset.

He was pulled out of his train of thought by Aloy's sudden orders to move, making him smile behind his visor. "Glad to know we wont just sit here collecting moon dust." He commented, checking his blaster before walking to the spot above Obran. "Ready whenever out 'point man' is."
