STANDARD FEATURES

  • The Lightbringer comes fully equipped with the whole standard array of shields, systems and components that are normally associated with vessels of this size and class.
ADVANCED SYSTEMS
STRENGTHS
  • Comprehensive stealth suite consisting of a Stygium cloaking device as well as other devices such as a gravitic modulator, Reflec coating and thrust thrace dampers make the ship almost undetectable. It also features a number of secondary stealth systems that make it easier to bypass high security and slip through blockades.
  • A signature modulator and a holographic shell can allow it to disguise itself as another ship.
  • Fast, well-armoured and agile. The Lightbringer is also equipped to act as a mobile base of operations and processing facility.
WEAKNESSES
  • The Stygium Stealth Array is powerful, but Stygium-cloaked vessels need to decloak to fire. Thus, any time the ship fires at someone, it has to decloak briefly. Chatting on comms, and using active scanning will also cause detection even if the cloak is active. Moreover, the Stygium stealth array is power-hungry, so it cannot be active all the time.
  • The holographic shell is not without drawbacks. The systems memory only allows a single disguise, which has to be pre-programmed and canot be altered in the middle of a mission. Moreover, the disguise is only useful at short range. Close investigation or touching will unravel the illusion.
  • Poorly armed. For a ship of its size, the Lightbringer is undergunned. It is more of a command and infiltration ship than an assault ship. The ship is tough, but not good at dishing out.
DESCRIPTION

The Lightbringer was one of Archangel's first designs. The genocidal duo of Maelion Liates and Moira Skaldi had grand ambitions. These boiled down to infiltrating and subverting galactic governments and corporations in order to bring an end to the chaos of organic existence by ushering in a mechanical dystopia of well-ordered machines. Organic life would be processed into HRDs. This would bring order to chaos. This was quite an undertaking, to say the least. Ironically, the 'logical' droids were probably a lot closer to the organics they looked down upon than they would have cared to admit, since galactic domination is a very organic ambition...and an illogical one.

Regardless, the two HRDs realised that they would have to use stealth and subterfuge, as they could not hope to conver the whole galaxy if they went in all guns blazing. A ship was required for them to travel in secret and process organics they managed to abduct. The solution to this problem was the Lightbringer. It was the first of many ships that served this purpose. Using a Stygium stealth array and other gadgets, it was designed to be almost undetectable. Moreover, it featured cells for organic prisoners as well as processing equipment that could be used to create mechanical facsimiles that would be almost indistinguishable from the real thing. Thus a large portion of the ship was set aside for the containment and processing of organics as well as scientific study.

Archangel's goals have changed over the years. This is largely because Enyo Typhos toppled her makers and took control. Ironically, she was the ultimate extreme of Archangel's experiments to merge organic and machine. Enyo has no interest in genocide, but does not value organic life much. Archangel's goals have changed, but a lot of its modus operandi has stayed consistent. The Lightbringer has been redesigned, taking many years of technological progession into account. Archangel also has access to a lot more money and resources.

However, the essential purpose of the ship remains unchanged. Though armed, it is not a brawler and not designed for all-out combat. Instead it relies and stealth, speed and agility. The Stygium stealth array cannot be used all the time, but it can last for up to six hours at a time. It needs the same amount of time to cool down if it is used for the maximum amount of time. It also has various other gadgets such as modulators, dampeners and Reflec coating. These ensure that the ship is still difficult, though not impossible, to detect when its cloak is not active.

For a ship of its class, the Lightbringer is undergunned. It can combat starfighters and corvettes fairly well, but lacks the heavy armaments to be effective against heavily armoured sluggers. However, the ship is not designed for battle and its considerable speed and agility allow it to outrun big ships. The quad lasers are evenly distributed around the ship to provide total coverage.

The Lightbringer has been equipped to serve as a mobile factory and research facility. Processing equipment has been set up to allow Archangel to process organic beings into machines. As further detailed in the corresponding submission, a large scanning bed is connected to the entechment-boosted supercomputer. This facilitates the download of a sedated subject's brain patterns, allowing Archangel to map the organic mind. Once the subject is no longer needed, it is painlessly terminated and disposed of inside a furnace. Thereafter, the subject's digitalised thought patterns are analysed and downloaded to a droid brain. This is fitted into an HRD chassis, producing a mental and physical replicant of the original organic. These chassis are produced in large numbers of Archangel's factories and cannot be significantly modified aboard due to lack of space. Thus a new HRD is born.

Space has also been set aside for a laboratory to allow Enyo to research and design new technology such as personal weapons, gadgets, cybernetic implants and droid models. Space constraints impose limitations on what she can design. The lab cannot be used to design anything big, much like the processing facility is not capable of large-scale production. However, Archangel has factory ships for that. Thuella, the scholar of the family, also tends to work here when she is on the ship. With the factory and the laboratory taking up so much space, the Lightbringer cannot afford a large hangar. However, the ship can field a squadron of attack craft and of support craft each. Its complement of attack craft consists of droid fighters. Their purpose is to protect the ship and slow down pursuers long enough for the Lightbringer to escape.

Enyo's quarters aboard the Lightbringer are extremely utilitarian. The Cyborg can function with only one hour's shutdown a day for 'sleep' and does get tired in the usual sense, so her room does not have a bed. She has one of those ergonomic desks which have the computer at eye level and no chair. Moreover, it features a data terminal and a work bench for tinkering with equipment. The room is equipped with potent communications and surveillance equipment, which also allows Enyo to tap into any of the security cameras set up throughout the ship. She also has an encrypted holonet access. She keeps personal items that are of importance to her in a couple hidden drawers. There is also a book shelf. Moreover, she has a private armoury and a small meditation chamber.

Like Enyo's private quarters, the briefing room has no chairs. Fortunately, she always keeps briefings, well, brief and to the point. There is also a training room that allows Enyo and anyone else aboard the ship to hone their combat skills. Furthermore, there is a repair room, an armoury and a medical bay. The incorporation of a solid fuel converter increases the recycling efficiency of the ship. Enyo is a strong proponent of recycling. That is why she processes superfluous, chaotic organics into productive machines. Until that happy day arrives, organic prisoners are held in the Lightbringer's containment cells. Enyo is big on efficiency, so any organic who has been captured will not have to wait long before they are cleansed of organic illogic. Sadly, some organics do not realise that they are making a valuable contribution to progress by being processed. In order to protect these recalcitrant organics from harming themselves and others through illogical escape attempts, an individual cell can be purged remotely by sealing it and filling it with toxic gas. Since droids are unaffected by this the disobedient captives can be easily controlled.

Most of Enyo's minions are droids, but she also employs some organics. Moreover, her siblings are occasionally on the ship. Thus some space has been set aside for quarters. However, this area is very small and the rooms are Spartan. Enyo also has very strict rules against fraternisation, consumption of alcohol or accessing 'indecent' media. Like every good puritan, she expects her minions to be sober and clear-minded when murdering people. It is an open secret among Enyo's siblings that 'big sister' monitors their holonet use.

In keeping with Archangel design philosophy, the ship has a powerful droid brain. The Unity Processing Matrix uses a modified entechment process that avoids the usual pitfalls associated with entechment, such as keeping unstable organics in a state of constant agony. Instead the organics are killed, then their essence is rendered down and converted into a part of an elaborate computer system. This is not an AI, as it lacks any form of independence, but it allows multiple organics to be forged into a single powerful piece of technology. When plugged into a spaceship, as is the case here, the Unity acts as a powerful droid brain. The machine has a superior ability to handle advanced calculations, predictions and tactical situations. This results in improvements in areas such as power distribution, targeting, calculation of hyperspace and micro-jumps etc. Moreover, automations keeps down crew size requirements.

The ship also features powerful communication systems that allow it to encrypt and transmit messages over vast distances. This can allow it to perform the function of a mobile base of operations, enabling Enyo to remain in contact with Archangel's various outposts, divisions and task forces while on the move. This is also pertinet because while Archangel has a planetary HQ to keep up the facade of being a legitimate corporation, it is an office front and thus mainly for show. Enyo disapproves of the name Lightbringer because it is too melodramatic. However, her siblings refuse to use the official name because it is boring. Enyo will probably eventually reach a point of boring name singularity where she starts labelling ships as 00101101 or similar.
