Private The Hermit

"Oh come on!" Marigold scoffed. "How is it dangerous? All I did was-... Throw you off me- sure, accidentally collapsed the building, but it was really old anyway, and the other time I used it, was to prevent a speeder ramming into me." She muttered out. Looking over to Valery and taking a deep sigh, giving some actual thought to the question asked.

"I- I don't know? I guess I had a gut feeling a lot of times, about things. Sometimes I could sense how some people would act, I dodged a few shots this way back in my bounty hunting days. But this- time where I moved things with my hands, it's- new... And it only ever happened when I was greatly stressed, aside from that I don't think I've ever used this thing- Force you call it, right?" She canted her head to the side. "I guess that explains why I had a shudder before you two showed up back then."

Marigold chuckles. "Didn't help me that much against you though, did it?" The girl spoke quietly, although jokingly. One could sense warmth in it, as if she was reminscing good memories.

"Not when you're untrained, no. The feeling, that shiver, when honed can make you quite capable of avoiding things. People, situations, danger." Good, so she had at least felt that much. It'd make actually getting her to understand her connection that much easier. So, again, he motioned to the various sitting cushions on the floor.

"Now sit, so we can get started."

"This is also just the beginning. That collapsing building could have killed you or even someone walking outside. But your strength with the Force will grow, so it can get far more destructive." She nodded, then glanced to Kahlil with a slightly relieved smile. It sure helped that those more extreme cases weren't the only times when she had felt the Force. They'd be able to help her tap into it much easier, and slowly work on her control.

She could do this, and they could help guide her.

"It's much easier to connect with the Force when you feel calm and relaxed. So yes, please sit down and keep your body loose, and your shoulders relaxed."

Looked confused, if not flat out flabbergasted as she was invited to sit. More so when Valery asked her to relax. "W-what? No-...? I can't just relax here! What if someone just ends up hitting me over my head or stabbin' me, or shooting me?" She seemed confused at the concept of lowering her guard. Yet she still sat. Although looking over her shoulder.

It seemed she needed more than that just to focus. "When I used the force at those times, I was just really angry, wouldn't be easier for me to just- get really-really upset and hurl stuff around?" She inquires. Looking at her hands and clutching them into fists several times.

"You remember passing out, yes? That cold, uncomfortable sensation? That's the Dark, clawing at you. Diving into your emotions like that might give you strength in the moment, but it will cost you more than just a good nights rest. You'll loose every part that makes you you."

It would be easier, of course. But that's why it was so dangerous. Kahlil glanced briefly to Valery, giving her a small shrug. This wasn't going to be as easy as he thought. Not if she didn't feel safe. And she certainly didn't.

"No one's going to attack this temple. At least, not without me dealing with it."

"We wouldn't have escorted you through the lower levels, just for you to get here and be harmed." For perhaps the first time, Valery looked at Marigold with a much warmer smile. Her talk with her husband last night had helped immensely, and the more she listened to Marigold, the more she realized just how right he had been about her.

Though...Valery had been right in the sense that this was going to be a challenge.

"You're safe up here, and you have our word that we'll prptect you."

Marigold took a deep sigh. "I don't know, I don't feel... That odd from when I used it, I just... I had a headache and was exhausted but- it felt-... Really thrilling, maybe it's the adrenaline? What's... What's the Dark anyway?" She inquires, and shrugs. Although when the two masters support her, it takes her off-guard, as she stares at them in confusion. Her expression softens, she's not sure how to respond to it.

"... Yeah, sure. Whatever." She mumbles, awkwardly, while taking another deep sigh and relaxing her body, although it was unnatural for her, she couldn't help but feel warmth, perhaps for a first time, in a very long span, she didn't have to think about defending herself, or her long-term survival. And yet, she seems to focus too hard on relaxing, getting frustrated. "Nothing is happening!" She muttered out to the two masters, not even a minute in.

"... Yeah, sure. Whatever."

Valery took a breath and ignored that. Marigold was actually trying to relax at least, so she was going to take that win and focused on it. Though, her comment about it feeling like adrenaline, mixed with a question about the dark made her tilt her head. "The Dark Side is an aspect of the Force that draws most on our selfish desires, as well as our most negative emotions and intent. Anger and hatred fuel it, and corrupt you to seek more power."

"But it doesn't feel like that right away. It feels like an easy path that can help you get what you desire most. It will always tempt you, and it's important that you resist."

"Or you'll lose who you are completely, and become the monster you likely wanted to destroy."

"I'm not stressed!" Marigold rebutted, taking a sharp exhale. Her attention turned over to Valery while she tilted her head. "So that's what she talked about..." The girl mumbled under her nose. "Well, whatever. It doesn't look like anything bad happened to me yet... So let's just-... Keep going." She took a deep breath, and relaxed once again, hands cupped together while she sat, her floor-length cloak carefully spread on the ground as she was sitting.

"What am I even supposed to be feeling?" She didn't open her eyes, nor look up. In fact, it seemed like the question wasn't adressed to anyone in particular but herself. Eventually, though. She stopped speaking at all.

Simply letting her mind drift away peacefully, while her body remained still, relaxed. As if she was about to fall asleep, although she fought the urge. Even the tiniest bit of respite, no matter how short it is, seemed to lull her mind.

Valery glanced at Kahlil with some concern in her eyes over what Marigold muttered in response to her. Had she talked about her Force-sensitivity to someone else before without really realizing it? If so, and especially if it concerned the Dark Side as well, Valery felt relieved she hadn't gone down the wrong path yet.

But she knew the temptations were going to be much stronger for Marigold. They would have to keep helping her resist them.

Luckily, Kahlil's approach was one of caution - he wanted her to connect but did so in a way that would bring her peace and offer her control. The time to learn more practical skills would follow only after that.

"Once you feel at peace with yourself, you can focus on the Force. It flows through you and connects you to the world around you. That is what you'll be able to feel, and maybe, you will even feel our presence in the room with you."

Marigold took deeper breaths, relaxing her body, she could-... Feel the connection, but it was painfully weak. "Why does peace feel so empty?" She inquired, seemingly uncomfortable, whatever she was sensing. Her peace was twisted, she wasn't used to it at all. Inside the mind, images of screams and horrifying images emerged.

All she ever knew was war and pain, of course she'd have trouble unedrstanding the notion of 'peace'. And yet, the brave girl fought against these memories, suppressing them as she focused on the connection, however weak it was, linking herself to it, letting the invisible energies flow through her as she pondered on the nature of the Galaxy, and although her mind was limited in the comprehension of many mundane things, the Force found it's way, with it's breeze and silk touch, wrapping around Marigold.

She felt dizzying lights while her eyes were closed, both distant and up close, she could make nothing of them just yet. Harmony was yet to be found, there's so, so many things she could do better, that much the masters knew, but... It was a start.

"Because you're not truly at peace."

That was the easiest way to say it. If she truly felt guilt over her actions, he doubted she'd feel peace in the way they were hoping her to eventually. But it was a stepping stone to recognize it. But it was a start. She could feel something. And they would work on from that bit by bit.

"What do you feel?"

"Try to let everything go," Valery advised after Kahlil had spoken up. "Clear the mind of thoughts, memories and emotions — focus just on yourself and try to be at peace in this very moment." Valery and Kahlil both knew she had a lot on her mind, and this abrupt change in her life would only add to that. But it was still possible to let go of it all for at least a moment. Perhaps to feel that connection, or better, to tap into it.

They could help her from there, but she needed to be able to control this first. For her own safety, and for the people around her.

"Let go and you'll find true peace."

"I feel-... Shame." Marigold muttered to both Kahlil and Valery. "As if I can feel the judgemental gazes, looking down at me, knowingly." It wasn't exactly that, but it was half of the truth, unfortunately, the young girl didn't know that many words that could describe her state, it was very... Metaphysical feeling, not something she could easily grasp her head around.

She tried to follow Valery's advice, and tried to let the baggage go, let go of her guilt and memories, and be present at the moment, and at first. It succeeded, all the stains were temporarily sealed, letting the force flow through her as she breathed, a natural state of how things should be, to neither hopelessly chase the ghosts of the past, nor try to manipulate the future. To go with the flow.

And yet, although the connection was established, her mind once again drifted back to the thoughts of misery, her head was mostly preoccupied with those, with the sudden change of life and little to no positive memories made, she couldn't move on, the ghosts of the past clawed their way into her psyche, and the gaze of people, some of which she knew, some of which felt familiar, and some, that she had killed. Stared at her, the multitude of metaphysical chains, fueled by internal regret, and sadness, and anger, and hate, they all chained her up.

There was a connection, what little she could muster by keeping some of these thoughts away, but it clearly strained the young girl to fully let go of these thoughts for more than just a few minutes, seconds, even.

"I can't do it!" She laments with a yelp. "I just-... I can't." Despite the fact that she did have progress, it didn't feel like much to her. She was too used to getting things done in one sitting. "I knew it was a stupid idea, it wouldn't work out."

"No, you can't."

Kahlil opened his eyes, looking to Marigold for a brief moment before offering her a smile. She'd made a lot more progress than she gave herself credit for. But that, in turn, would be the next thing for her to learn it seemed. How to take the small steps she needed to move on from what she was, and become someone better.

"Not yet. But you're starting to. It will take time, but you will get there."

"You've been through a lot," Valery said, almost with a motherly tone. "The strongest connections are formed with a clear mind, and it's not easy to clear it when so much has happened. Trust me, I know," Valery said with a smile for the younger woman. As annoying as Marigold had been to her, she was starting to warm up to blondie locks. Maybe because, in a way, she recognized some of her own struggles within her.

There had been a time when Valery was extremely conflicted too.

"But you're already making progress, so let's keep working on it, hm? One step at a time, we'll help you grow." Valery glanced at Kahlil and gently bumped her side into him. Perhaps it was time for him to tell her what their plans were, if he believed her to be ready to be taken on as a student.

"You guys make it look so easy." Marigold brough a hand to her chin, seemingly lost in her thoughts, that is until, the two masters show support. At which point, her cheeks flush red while she speaks out sheepishly. "Don't talk like you're my parents, it's just a lesson, not therapy." She comments, with a huff, though her eyes gaze back at the masters.

"I can tell you been through a lot too." The young girl spoke out of nowhere, referring to both masters. "Can see it in your eyes, y'know? You look at the kids and most have these shiny twinkle of innocence, and then there's us. There might be a glimmer, but you know that most of it is faded." She explained to the two masters, perhaps what little connection she had, did enchance her understanding of people, empathy, one would call it.

Marigold gently curled up in a ball by bringing her legs together and wrapping her hands around them. "Right, sorry. I mean to say that uh, I feel like if I try it again, my head is going to be splitting from migraine." She gave them both a crooked, awkward grin. "I really hope y'know this feeling as well enough to not force me do it again, eh?" The girl spoke while trying to hold back a giggle, chuckling.

"Not for a bit. There's no point in repeating the same thing again and again without some change. But if you're going to be my Padawan you're going to have to keep working at this." Kahlil shrugged. This would probably be the easiest part of anything he taught Marigold. The life of a Jedi wasn't actually an easy one. Especially for them, who knew what the other side could be like. He glanced briefly to Valery, giving her a nod.

"I think she can learn."
