Private The Hermit

Kahlil_Div2.png

It was a new day.

Which meant he had to get up. Kahlil let out a sigh as he sat up, rubbed at the back of his neck, got out of bed, and got himself dressed. Yesterday was the type of day he didn't enjoy, but it was important to have handled. Marigold Marigold , terrorist child that she was, now had the chance to be something more. That was the only good thing about it. He sighed aloud, glancing to Valery close by with a brief smile. They had a lot to talk about, but at least they were mostly on the same page now with how to proceed.

Lean on each other, and balance each other out. He was certainly overprotective, but he did want her to have the chance he'd gotten.

"C'mon, let's go get her."

"My hair looks awful," Valery groaned as she watched him roll out of bed, and joined him in getting dressed for the day. Yesterday had been quite a difficult day, from what happened in the Lower Levels to their conversation with Marigold. But at least, there was a path forward now, and she felt closer to Kahlil about it too. They each had their own methods, and while they overlapped in some areas, there were points of debate too.

But that would only help in the end. They'd talk them through and do what's best for Marigold, rather than what was most comfortable for themselves.

"I was thinking we'd talk to her in the Council Chambers. The sleeping quarters here are a bit small, so it'll feel less like we're talking to her in a guarded cell. And if she's becoming a Jedi, she should see the chambers anyway." She smiled and reached for his hand to hold it while they walked. No Jedi in the Temple found it strange to see the Nobles walking hand-in-hand, so until they reached the door of Marigold's room, Valery held onto him.

Knock, knock, knock.

"Good morning. Are you awake?"

Marigold snoozed peacefully in her room, wrapped in the blankets. Sure, it wasn't exactly her first rodeo, she was on expeditions of such magntitude before, but they all left her tired, exhausted. And considering that the recent near-death encounter had her take an injury which would be fatal in most other circumstances, as well as overuse her newfound abilities to the point of intense headache. The girl was sleeping like a corpse.

However not all good things last forever, and soon, three knocks land on her door, Marigold grumbles and turns to the side. "No I'm not awake..." She mumbled out loud, drunk on her sleep. "I don't wanna' wake up..." She lamented, in a rather saddened tone, a rarity. Perhaps not being awake enough to be angry in her delivery, instead it was hollow and somber. "Just mmh, come back another day, I guess." The young girl lowered her head, and planted it back on the pillow, and closed her eyes. Trying her best to go back to sleep

Well, once again the two masters are having to deal with the girl being difficult, off to a good start...

"You suggested we stay here, you know." Kahlil snickered as he watched Valery get up. They didn't have all the things she'd probably need to get her hair under control. He imagined she'd likely be able to get it at least presentable. Valery was always good at that. Once they made it to Marigold's room though he just chuckled.

"Mmnope."

Kahlil raised a hand, casually opening the door with a pull of the Force before stepping in. Sleep wasn't on the table for her, not now. "Up, Amrigold. We have much to discuss still and sleep won't delay it any longer."

Valery sighed, "I know, I know... it's just, ugh." She grumbled some more and, eventually, made it out of their room with her hair looking presentable. Messier, but okay. They made their way over to Marigold's room and as expected, she was being difficult again. Valery's eyes shifted into a glare at the door, but Kahlil wasn't having it and opened it up to step inside. Valery followed suit with quite a grin on her face.

He was going to have to deal with this a lot more if their plan was set in motion.

"We're going to bring you to the Council Chambers and discuss things there. So you have 5 minutes to get ready before we leave." If she needed a bathroom break or to fix herself up, she'd allow that of course.

Valery then stepped outside to offer Marigold a moment of privacy and looked at Kahlil, "If Vera or Aris ever get like this, I'm kicking them out of the house." She wouldn't, but she still smirked.

"Oh for fu.." Marigold didn't finish the sentence as the two masters entered her room, taking a deep sigh. "Five minutes..." She mumbled to herself, now finally starting to get angry, business as usual. "I don't need five minutes." The girl muttered out while standing up from her bed, her hair was a complete mess, but she didn't mind it, and didn't fix the golden curles, simply taking on her floor-length cloak and oversized hood to hide her imperfections.

"Here, done... Why are we even going to that... Chamber, I don't know what that is or where it is, but can't you just, I don't know. Tell me things here and now?" Marigold inquired. Looking back at her room and then back at the two masters after about less than two minutes, rubbing her eyes... And a second hand grabbing onto stomach, it growled slightly. But the young girl made her best stoic expression, she was used to being without food enough to not feel the need to complain, or more likely, she wasn't confident enough to ask.

"If Vera or Aris ever get like this, I'm kicking them out of the house."

Kahlil chuckled. If they weren't planning on being Jedi, he would've disagreed. But.. He did agree that they needed to make sure those who wanted to become Jedi were ready to do so. Like Marigold. He glanced to the girl as she came out as quick as she could, looking her over. She was hungry, that much was obvious. But they were going to have to get her proper robes next. There was a lot they were going to have to go over.

"Because it's important we speak in the Council Chambers. There's more than just talking to be handled."

He left it cryptic. In part because it was something he liked doing, but also because it was important she learned why. On her own. Which was why. There were answers that were only truly learned when they were figured out by someone on their own, and often those were the lessons Jedi were tasked to learn. Better to get her started now.

"Come along."

Deep breaths, Val.

She looked between Marigold and Kahlil with a smile, but she couldn't stop wondering if this was going to happen to her kids when they hit puberty. Rebellious, annoying, lazy... what would happen to her babies? Surely she could keep them cute and innocent if they were raised well, right?

With a small shake of her head, she snapped out of those thoughts and focused on the woman in front of her again. She got her cloak up and seemed hungry, but at least she was coming along. The Council Chambers would be a good place to show her, and keeping her waiting would help with developing some patience as well.

Something else she desperately needed to learn.

"The view up there is quite amazing too. I'm sure you'll find it interesting." She turned, waited for Marigold to step outside, and then began to lead the way to the Council Chambers. There was a lot to talk about and an interesting offer to be made, but Kahlil wanted to keep it vague for now. So she'd play along and leave the important topics for the chambers themselves.

"Into the turbolift, and up we go."

Marigold took deep breaths. Coming to terms with the need to wait. "Fine, whatever." She followed the two masters in turbolift, stretching. The silence in the turbolift was definetly getting on the nerves of the young girl. And so, she spoke up. "I uh... Guess, um... Was your, uh, night, good?" Clearly far from being an expert at social interactions, Marigold still decided to strike up a conversation, with a sheepish tone. It wasn't natural for her, but Valery and Kahlil were being vague, that, in turn. Made it harder for her to latch onto a particular comment, like she always did.

"This is a one long ride." The girl comments, while looking around. Patience was for sure not her virtue. "Maybe you're not wrong about it, the view is going to be great, besides." She smiled. "I love sightseeing."

"You should start with a few places just in the Temple itself. It's like a city on its own." If she liked sightseeing, the fountains and grand statues would be amazing, and even the Archives were stunning to see for the first time. Coruscant itself was largely too industrial for Valery's liking, but she didn't know what Marigold was used to seeing.

Maybe to her, all of it was exciting.

The turbolift reached its final destination and Valery was quick to walk over to the large panorama windows. The view from up here was unique, so she knew Marigold would like it if she appreciated these kinds of things.

"Feel free to take a look around before we get started." She smiled and glanced at Kahlil, who she'd give the chance to open their more serious conversation to.

"I'm not a child, you don't have to accompany me everywhere." Marigold huffed, and turned to Valery. "Yeah, figured as much. Guess you get a lot of budget, huh?" She inquired, though, she instantly went quiet as soon as the doors opened. The sight invoked feelings of happiness and joy, and curious child in her took over. And thus, Marigold ran off to look over the vast view, her mouth wide open and she did just that, enjoying the view. "It's so pretty out there!"

Despite how hard it could be to stand her, and let alone talk to her for the most part, she did have aspirations of her own. Her own interests that stretched beyond mindless killing. The amazement comes to a grinding halt as she turns towards the two masters, once again, embarrassed. "Right, uh, sorry... What- what you wanted to talk about?" She eyes both of them, although her eyes briefly focus on Kahlil, for some reason. She just can tell he has something to say, not that she was good at reading expressions, it seemed more like a gut feeling, or instinct. That so often made her duck right before she got shot.

"There's no budget."

The Jedi temple was built on donations of all kinds. Kahlil himself had made sure to use the money he had to help. But there was no government funding or such. He let the comment about her being a child go. No sooner did she say it than she immediately started to behave like a child in wonderment.

"Your future. If you truly wish to be a Jedi, what that will entail, what that means for you going forward."

Valery was very much tempted not to let the comment about her being a child go. Not just because she very quickly acted like one when she saw the view, but also because it wasn't the reason for them escorting her. Less than 48 hours ago, she was trying to kill people in the streets of Coruscant, and while her becoming a Jedi meant that Kahlil and herself had to place some trust in Marigold, she wasn't going to rush things too much either.

It wouldn't be right to just let her roam freely so soon.

"Being a Jedi is not an easy thing. We put ourselves in harm's way constantly, we're exposed to terrible things and most Jedi will have been the target of those things too. So, it's not something we'd want to force on anybody. It has to be something you really want to become."

"And if you do want it, I can promise that few things feel as fulfilling. You can help a lot of people as a Jedi."

Marigold leand on the wall, listening to both Valery and Kahlil, taking a deep sigh. "Look, I get it, being a Jedi is not easy, but I'm no stranger to strife. I was a bounty hunter before." She smirked. "And a pretty good one at that." There was a sense of pride in her tone of voice, quite a lot of criminals and slavers knew the nickname, the Red Scar. From her beheading and cutting up a popular slave trader and a criminal syndicate boss into pieces and blowing up the station, to... Carving up most of said slavers from Outer Rim, all the way to the Core.

But there was no respect for her, more like fear, akin to how someone fears a monster. "You ever fly to those nearly abandoned planets? Where a guy or a gal' doesn't even try to run a proper society or goverment? Do you see how they just endlessly hoard resources and credits, and leave others to starve? How about, seeing a child get stabbed in an alleyway and left to bleed out, and have their cries be ignored by anyone? How about seeing law enforcement ignore you wearing that fething collar on your neck, and look down on the ground in shame as your 'master' walks by your side, with you fearfuly waiting until he barks you to gouge someone's eyes out or be ready to part with your's?"

Her voice was one of anger, it became more, and more personal, she was upset. Perhaps thinking that the masters viewed her as soft, and their concern and warning, viewed as a challenge. Regardless of how incorrect she was. "Thought so," She muttered out. "if Jedi get into these kind of situations and see the things I saw or worse, then yeah. I think I'm ready." She huffed. "I did it for the money before, but only because I had to live off something. But if I didn't have the need for credits I'd probably do it all for free. Including helping people." Marigold took a deep breath, calming herself down.

"If, that doesn't answer your question, then... Yes, I'm ready." She eyed Valery and Kahlil, squinting.

"More than you know."

It wasn't the same, but he understood better than most just what that kind of life could be like. But he had no desire to compare scars, not right now. She was easy to anger, though. That's what stood out the most. And anger would not help a Jedi. It'd do the opposite, really. That would be the first real lesson she'd have to learn, once they were certain she was capable of becoming a Jedi.

"Then we're going to test you. It will be constant, not just now and today but always. There's a lot that you're going to have to learn, relearn, and even unlearn. There's a lot you're going to have to go through."

"You don't have to tell us about the horrific things in this Galaxy," Valery said flatly, though she did understand the emotion in Marigold about this. "You'll find that a lot of Jedi come from these terrible places themselves. But living through them and seeing those things is one thing. As a Jedi, you'll also have a responsibility to address them the right way. It's a very different and difficult way of looking at those things." Valery, for example, understood that desire to outright kill the slavers who abused and hurt so many people to make a few credits.

But that wasn't something a Jedi could do.

Valery then glanced at Kahlil and nodded before turning back to Marigold, "Mind you, every Jedi is constantly tested and exposed to trials. All of us are constantly learning because we run into new things, or things we know change. Your journey will just be a little more challenging." But she wasn't going to be alone on that journey. A very critical component of her training would be having the right teachers.

That was one thing they'd have to discuss as well.

Her gaze met Kahlil's, her expression softens for a moment, perhaps in relief of seeing a kindred spirit, however. Marigold cants her head to the side. "Test? Pffsh... Sure, whatever.. I'm a fast learner, I bet!" She still spoke with pride. Though, she looked at Valery. "What's the right way anyway? I don't see problems with killing slavers, all you've said is that they just pop back up, but I didn't see either of you offer any alternatives." She scoffed.

"What are we going to start with? Why not train now? If not now, then when? Where?" She barraged the two masters with questions. "I'm asking, because I really hope I wasn't dragged out of bed just to be told 'we'll teach you later'." Marigold huffed.

"That's a good question."

The right way. It was going to be difficult to really teach her much with how she was acting, but there was something they could begin with. Training. Actual training. It mattered little if she didn't learn how to focus her powers. And the best way to start that?

"But no, we're not going to teach you later. Your power is already too dangerous to go ignored. So sit. We're going to test how well you can meditate on the Force."

After her talk with Kahlil, she had realized that her stance towards Marigold had been one with too much frustration. Though hearing her responses again now, she definitely felt it a little again. Was she really going to give it her all to be a Jedi? Would she truly believe in being one? Or was just another means to an end — to kill and take down the people she viewed as evil in this Galaxyy?

She really hoped they could make a difference for her.

"Thus far, you've only ever used the Force in emotionally charged moments, yes? Or have you ever felt it when you were entirely calm as well? Maybe you've been able to predict something on a feeling, or felt a warning right before something dangerous happened around you?" Valery asked, because if the feeling was familiar to her, it'd be easier to connect with it again. If she hadn't, they'd have to search for it deeper within.
