OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
SETTING INFORMATION
  • Landmark Name: The Yellow Plains; also known as the "Great Plains" or simply "the Plains"
  • Classification: Plains
  • Location: Chaldea
  • Affiliation: Chaldean Potentium
  • Size: Massive
  • Population: Moderate
  • Demographics: Predominantly human, with various alien species scattered here and there.
  • Accessibility: Fully accessible. This is a broad geographical region with various towns, cities, and settlements.
  • Description: The Yellow Plains are a large region of grassy flatlands found on the planet Chaldea, spanning approximately 123,000 km² (47,490 mi²). Constituting its own ecosystem, the Plains are home to many lifeforms, with some of the most notable being a native species of horned buffalo and imported Loth-bats and Loth-cats. The local government is affiliated with the Chaldean Potentium; they have their own representative whom they voted into office. The people of the region have tamed the buffalo and use them as pack animals, war mounts, and a source of food, furs, and other goods.
POINTS OF INTEREST
Isadora - Largest settlement in the region. Isadoran culture is colorful, sometimes to the point of gaudiness. They are stereotyped as party animals who look for any excuse to celebrate. Tourists are routinely drawn to the city during its annual parade season, which occurs in mid spring; the festivities are held on the anniversary of the first settlers' arrival on Chaldea.

Rural Areas - Outside the major city, much of the Plains is rural countryside, populated by farmers and shepherds. These people of the land are, as one would expect, characterized as backwater provincials - even though there are many prosperous farming families who are wealthy enough to pay for education. They hunt and herd their buffalo and other chattel, and sell their goods to the city folk or even to offworlders.

Wild Plains - The sheer size and expanse of the Plains means that there are large stretches of uninhabited land. This wilderness stretches for miles in either direction, and the flat, featureless landscape is easy to get lost in. Traverse it at your own risk.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
The Plains were settled in the early days of Chaldea's history by colonists who were looking to expand further across the planet. Because of the terrain of the region, it remained sparsely populated for much of its history, with only the occasional splatter of farms and villages here and there. Many of the inhabitants were nomadic, following the herds of buffalo in order to find water and food. It experienced a population boom within the last thirty years, as people began deserting the cities and other war-torn major population centers in the wake of the Civil War.

If you ask the average Chaldean what they think of the Plains, you will notice it seems to hold a certain amount of mystique. The buffalo is associated with freedom, and is used as a symbol of individualism. Buffalo hunters are venerated in media due to the dangers of the job; they run the risk of being stampeded or gored by the buffalo's horns, yet hunting them is considered exhilarating and "fun".
