THE CLOAK OF THE SITH, ROON
TECHNO UNION HEADQUARTERS

A virtual fortress on a nearly unreachable planet, the headquarters of the Techno Union was a lavish structure nestled within Roon's frozen mountains. It was here that the Techno Union's Executive Council met to discuss the business of running the country. The chamber that this took place took some of its cues from the Republic's Senate Building, although there were no need for the floating pods. The Executive Council was presently small, with just under a few dozen corporations being part of it and only seven of them wielding any real power in Techno Union space. Namely: Darkwater Security, Arakyd Industries, ArmaTech Combat Systems, Bright Star Entertainment Group, Arceneau Trade Company, and Saiba group. Whichever way the majority of those seven aligned on any issue, the others were bound to follow as well.

The central podium that the Techno Union's Foreman normally occupied was empty. Since Starchaser's resignation, there had been no election to select a new Foreman. The Executive Council operated just fine in the meanwhile. Planets mostly governed themselves and the Directorate handled the heavy bureaucratic work. That was not the point of today's meeting, however. In addition to the usual government affairs, Hegemonic Automaton had an issue to present. The Umbaran temporarily occupied the central podium and, without further delay or establishment of the setting, began his spiel.

"Esteemed colleagues, you are aware that after our annexation of the Red Ravens, the Techno Union came to control the planet of Nal Hutta and the moon of Nar Shadda." There were some murmurs. Gerion had become a little infamous for his hardline stance on criminal-types and suspicious activity. No doubt he was getting ready to propose both planets be glassed and their inhabitants shipped off to labor colonies. "Being that we have occupied them for some months now and Committees for Planetary Development were established for both, I made inquiries into the status of their operations; how successful they have been."

Gerion had printed out a physical copy of the reports. He dropped it onto the flat surface of the podium with an audible thump. It was approximately two hundred pages long.

"Between both, there have been a total of ninety-seven terrorist attacks on Techno Union facilities. Ten have been successful, resulting in the loss of a total of forty-three personnel due to death or injury, seven of which were committee members. A majority of public works operations launched to date have been mired down by criminal espionage and then forced to shut down when budgets ran dry. Tax evasion is rampant, as many of the populace have no concept of it and make their incomes illegally. Despite billions being expended out of our coffers in order to subsidize the efforts of the planetary governments, the impact on Nal Hutta and Nar Shadda has been negligible. Corruption is at an all time high; profits are at an all time low. Our jurisdiction over these worlds has brought us nothing."

This information was, of course, only available to the Executive Council. These meetings were not exactly broadcast, either. Anyone outside of this room or the relevant government institutions would have to discover the Techno Union's unfavorable position on those crime worlds the hard way.

"In light of this information, I would like to propose the following legislation. Transferring legal custodianship over Nar Shadda and Nal Hutta to the Hutt Cartel will not only foster positive relations with our criminally inclined neighbors, but relieve us of an unnecessary burden brought on by our territorial overreach."

Y'TOUB ACT

WHEREAS, the populace of the planet of Nal Hutta and moon of Nar Shadda have proved impossible to civilize;
WHEREAS, the planet of Nal Hutta and moon of Nar Shadda have brought great financial burden upon the coffers of the Techno Union;
WHEREAS, the tax revenue collected from both Nal Hutta and Nar Shadda will never achieve such an amount as to cover the costs of civilizing them;
WHEREAS, the continued loss of personnel and resources have contributed further to the astronomical costs of maintaining custodianship over Nal hutta and Nar Shadda;
WHEREAS, the Hutt Cartel is a government of some competency within the same region of space as the Techno Union;
WHEREAS, the Hutt Cartel is more adept with the dealings of the criminal underworld that permeate Nal Hutta and Nar Shadda;
WHEREAS, the Hutt Cartel and Techno Union stand to benefit greatly from improved relations with one another;

THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that, to avoid further loss of income, waste of revenue, destruction of resources, and death and injury of personnel, the Techno Union will begin steps to withdraw its authority from Nal Hutta and Nar Shadda.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that, upon the signing of a treaty with terms agreeable to both aprties, the Techno Union shall transfer custodianship of Nar Shadda and Nal Hutta to the Hutt Cartel.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that Executive Council appoints the Department of Security to coordinate the withdrawal of Techno Union assets and personnel.

Danger would sit quietly in her seat, a pair of black framed spectacles perched right on the bridge of her button nose.

How odd it would appear for anyone who saw her wearing them.

It was age really, she was getting up in the years, but it didn't matter none. She enjoyed the glasses and they would help her read the find bloody print that words seem to be getting with every year and every silver hair.

So giving Nar Shadda over to the Hutts eh? The woman would muse. Ain't much to her. Sure she had her own trade station and business interests there, not to mention Club Eufora. But as it was, she had no qualms with the Hutt Cartel and as long as they did tit for tat, she was fine.

It was...ironic.

Years ago, the former Mandalorian had led a bloody crusade in the name of the former Confederacy. Alongside his Dread Guard, they annexed much of what was known as Hutt Space; going so far as to blockade the totality of the Black Suns in the process. If it were the angry, hot-headed warrior of the past looking on at the proceedings, he would have spat fiery words at the members of the executive council. However, time was wonderful in that it changed people.

Sometimes for the better, sometimes for the worse.

"I concur with this proposal. Hutt Space is neither profitable, nor is it strategically sound. Our focus should be on the consolidation of our borders and meaningful expansion into the void left behind by the Protectorate."

OOC//And back to the hole I go.

Darell Irani was not an especially prideful man.

This was made apparent by the frequency that his closest friends were able to jest with him, without any thumbs being cut off, fathers being kidnapped or any other sort of shenanigans happening just for the sake of making a statement. It was such wasteful behavior for those that considered themselves inherently better than the ninety point nine percent of the Galaxy.

Today he was sitting in a leather chair, surrounded by some of the most powerful individuals in the coporate world, true giants regardless of actual height and width.

He listened carefully to what Ardik was proposing - and it was in this that pride or the lack of it, came back to the decision. A prideful man would have disregarded the points made, he would have considered giving up territory as a sign of just that.

Giving up.

To retreat from worlds where money had been spent, money and effort… it would seem preposterous to a prideful man. It would have seemed outrageous and the man of pride might have stormed out of the meeting immediately.

But it had already been established that Irani was no prideful man.

As such after Dagora had said his piece, Irani shrugged and took a sip from his drink, before asking a simple important question.

The question that would inherently decide his vote in this matter.

“What are our projections in terms of profitable terms with the Hutt Cartel. What do they have to offer in return to the two worlds they value most, and what would we ask of them?”

Token Waters wasn’t all that keen on the political side of her position. She understood the need for the Techno Union, the need for it to carry on. Business types that didn’t play in the galactic field that were looking to impress and advance the infrastructure and setting of worlds. That was why they had taken over the worlds of the former Red Raven technology. She understood the why, improving lives was always something that Token held dear.

So the Techno Union must carry on. She was at one of these meetings, made of the Executive Council. It was… interesting and very intimidating for the blonde. They were no Roon, a world she mostly just visited, preparing Maramere as a world to live on in the Union space. Traveling between here and Dubrillion in the Primeval space, the blonde was always concerned about her schedule.

“I see no reason to continue to have criminals taking strike on us. As a company built around gaming, criminal elements have been making strikes to rob our various locations. Solidifying relations should prevent that.

“Plus, the worlds are useless to my company.”

Orcus clacked his teeth, then shook his head.

"I understand the political angle, hauum. But I cannot condone such an endorsement of lawlessness. It smacks too much of criminal appeasement."

The whale sat in his overlarge chair and played with a button on his ocean-blue suit. "Perhaps if you elaborated on how we can curb their criminality in the future..."

"Criminals are always in need of arms and munitions. Establishing our diplomatic relationship on a good note may make them likely to purchase whatever they need from our companies." Gerion shifted from one foot to another. As distasteful as it was to deal with criminals, it was all for the greater good. "Ostensibly we would establish embassies, sign a non-aggression pact, and draw lines in the sand, so to speak. I maintain no illusion that the Hutts actually have anything we want or particularly need, but I do maintain that healthy relations with our neighbors will prevent crippling issues from arising in the future. Not to mention discourage them from engaging in their criminal mischief in our territory."

Which they had already done. A slave auction had been disrupted on Tatooine not terribly long ago and Gerion suspected the Hutts to have some sort of involvement. Surprisingly a diplomatic incident hadn't arisen, but if that was going to be the only interaction between the two entities... Well, it would further incite problems in the future.

"As we've learned on Nal Hutta and Nar Shadda, Mister Orcus, curbing criminality in Hutt Space is a lost cause. The best we can do is quarantine these disgraceful activities from the worlds actually worth governing. The longer these worlds remain part of the Techno Union, the more likely it becomes their vile exports will adversely affect other planets."

Eh. Hutt Space has been a cesspit of the galaxy since the time of the Old Republic. Even the Yuuzhan Vong in their invasion and mass cleansing hadn't been able to rehabilitate this region of space. Multiple Empires had attempted to instill order and law into the region, and at the end of the day Hutt Space was still a lawless, criminal, cesspool of scum and lowlifes. It was the way of things, the natural order for this region.

"Trying to keep order in this region of the galaxy is a lost cause. I am in agreement with the resolution. That said, I feel the cost of their ancient throne world and the smuggler's moon would be astronomical. So long as we are compensated appropriately."

Perhaps we would be compensated in the form of planets. There were a number of planets of worth we had our eyes on. Tmoxin had asked for updates, so from inside my helmet I accessed the HoloNet and sent a short message. <Five in favor, one undecided, one against. Hope this helps Princess>. The Hapan business woman had some kind of deal on the line, and she had asked for how it was going. I assume for if she had to call whatever she was up to off.
