Private The First of a Kind

There he stood, glaring out at the beautiful wonder that is Kashyyyk.

He now stood speaking with one of his closest Jedi friends as his mind began to wonder off slightly.

Through Drel's years, he had seen horrendous things, watched worlds destroyed, and lost many good friends.

He has had 3 Padawans so far, and was very soon about to take on his fourth.

His first, a young human named Jok. He was had a kind soul deep down, but was tormented by the abuse he received from his father and therefore developed a very prickly nature. When he took the boy as his Padawan at age 11, he was very difficult. Eventually he broke through to the boy and they grew closer. When Jok reached 17, he was sent on a mission to Jomark to investigate pirate activity. Unfortunately, he was captured by the pirates. Drel went and rescued him, but unbeknownst to Drel, Jok had developed a self-hatred passion within himself, which would doom him. The climax came when Drel was nearing the time of finally becoming a Jedi Master. Drel was only 34, but extremely gifted and
had proved his valor a dozen times over. A year before, he and Jok had been sent by the council to Cantonica, to deal with what was thought to be a rogue Antarian Ranger, however, it was a trap set up by a former Jedi Initiate turned Sith Acolyte. Drel and Jok also encountered a whole legion of Sith troopers when they arrived. Drel quickly dealt with the soldiers and sent Jok to take on the Acolyte. However, he began to sense Jok's feeling of self doubt. By the time Drel reached the balcony where the two had been dueling, he found Jok severely wounded on the ground and the Acolyte about to deliver the final death blow. He quickly summoned his power and sent a powerful force push that threw the Acolyte far across the room and through the wall. Jok would live for now, but a week later, after they had escaped and had returned to Kaskyyyk, the real horror set in. Jok, who was angry at himself due to his failures, the defeat he suffered, and a mix of so many other things, unfortunately turned to the worse possible solution to those issues, suicide. Drel later heartbrokenly found Jok slumped in his quarters and with his lightsaber having punctured a hole in his chest.

Drel soon was made a Jedi Master and a few years later took on a second Padawan, a young Chagrian named, Gheris Kamenda. They bonded extremely well and more than Jok and Drel did most likely due to the fact that Gheris's parents where deceased and he had no real attachments prior or really any self doubt. Gheris was quite the opposite Jok. Drel found himself having to calm down his self-confidence and ego sometimes. Eventually his high-standing ego did diminish slightly. Him and Drel grew very close as the Besalisk master took a far more involved approach to his training than he did with Jok. This worked very well and since being taken as his Padawan at age 13 to when he was 20, nearing the end of his training, Gheris grew immensely in both his power and his growth as a person. He had outgrown the youthful indiscretions and posh nature donned to most Chagrians. He had developed into a young, gallant, and caring young man. Drel was very proud of him. However, once again, disaster came once more. A new species appeared out of the east fringes. The Drael. The Bryn'adul. Their horde began ravaging worlds across the Outer Rim and their numbers never seemed to decrease. Drel and Gheris, along with thousands of Jedi and millions of other brave volunteers, went to face this new foe. They soon realized they were different than any other threat before, even the Yuuzhan Yong. They moved so quickly, as if their ships were bypassing Hyperspace all together. Drel fought them from the start of the Invasion to the brief ceasefire, which has recently ended, with the Drael on the warpath once more.

During the Battle of Barab I, and during an assault on a Drael planetary HQ, Gheris was mortally wounded. After avenging his Padawan and finishing off the remaining Bryn in the vicinity, Alliance gunships evacuated them. As they withdrew on the gunships, Drel held his fallen Padawan in his arms, weeping with the utmost sorrow. He would later return Gheris's body to the young man's brother on the Chagrian homeworld of Champala.

For years after, Drel was a bit afraid to take on another Padawan, but deep down, he knew he needed it. He also wanted to prove to himself that he was not to blame for the deaths of Jok and Gheris. And that it was all the Will of the Force. He recently took on an erratic young boy, Asher Sonata , who had similarly been scarred by the Bryn Invasion as much as Drel.

After returning from a stop to visit his good friends, the Barabels, now in refuge on the planet Daluuj, Drel received word from the Silver Jedi Assembly. He soon returned to Kaskyyyk and met with his good friend, the Wookiee Jedi Master, Barvokka. He informed him of all the recent galactic events, including the disturbing news that the Drael Invasion was about to resume. During his years at war against them and having conducted heavy research into their past and present history, culture, and biology, Drel realized that the Bryn were preparing for something more than just another invasion, they seemed to be preparing for some endgame. Perhaps their endgame. He wasn't yet sure of what was really to come and needed more time and study with both his research and through the force to figure out the truth behind this.

Having taken on a third apprentice and also realizing that the dark times were fast approaching, Drel was more urgent than ever before. He knew that time wasn't on his side, and not on anybody else's either. Still, by time he meant the things he would get done would have to done over a year, not over 4 or 5 years. To that end, he confided in Barvokka that he wished to take on another Padawan. In the Silver Jedi Concord and the NJO, Jedi Masters were being allowed to take on more than one Padawan. Drel didn't specifically serve the Concord itself, but it was the closest Jedi group to where he operated and it was also where he was given an opportunity to become a Silver Warden, a role he very much relished and enjoyed. When it came to the Padawan he already had, well, Asher would certainly be a challenge and Drel knew the boy would also require time for himself. Eventually, Drel knew that Asher would grow into a great Jedi, it would just longer than he had originally hoped. Jedi typically last longer and stay true to the Jedi ideals for longer times if they are brought along slowly rather than quickly. But, Drel wanted a Padawan who he could teach at his own pace, like his second Padawan, Gheris, who had a similar mindset for training and study. He did know not every Padawan could live up to what Gheris was, and that Drel also thought that if Gheris had lived, he would have gone to become one of the greatest Jedi of the era.

Barvokka completely understood Drel's expectations and had helped him pick out Asher towards the beginning. A day later, Barvokka had brought forth three names of possible Padawans, but Drel to see them train before he made his decision. Later that day, himself and Barvokka stood on a second floor balcony overlooking one of the temple's training grounds. Drel was impressed with all of the Padawans, but of course some more than others. Then Barvokka pointed out the first two Padawans who he had brought forth as candidates. Both were young humans, both boys. Then to Drel's surprise, the Wookiee pointed out a particular Padawan training with the biology group. He recognized her species instantly, even from a decent distance. She was most definitely a Yuuzhan Vong. This fascinated Drel as he had always been moderately intrigued with biology and science. However, it also confused him and his face showed that too, which made Barvokka laugh. The Wookiee master soon explained how she was a hybrid and how her village had over time developed an affinity with the force. Drel was still a bit taken aback, all the old histories of the Vong stated that they were both unable to use the force and could not be effected by it in the most part. His slight confusion quickly turned into more fascination and interest. Most people might have been frightened or prejudice to her, but not Drel. He had read about the legendary Jedi Grandmaster, Kol Skywalker, who worked closely with a Yuuzhan Vong shaper and together they healed both the divisions between the Jedi & Vong and helped reserve the effects of the Vong's biological corruption on many worlds. This did help him make his decision as well.

Drel then turned to Barvokka and asked a few more questions about the girl before agreeing to take her on as his Padawan. Part of his reason was that he wanted to observe and try to help her bring out the force more as Barvokka said she was most definitely the lowest force sensitive in her class. He also wanted to teach a female for the first time and was looking forward to how their master-student bond would develop. Even though she was 17 and older than most other Padawans, that didn't bother him in the slightest. Overall, he was just certainly excited to be able to teach and guide such a unique Padawan.

After the young woman was done with her training, she was summoned to a small training room within one of the towers of the Silver Rest. When should she enter, Master Barvokka and Drel would be speaking and facing the view outside the window. Drel could now sense her even more, she must be arriving soon. An anticipation had built up in Drel, one of hope and excitement. There was also a tinge of doubt, but it soon evaporated. Moments later, he felt a faint tremor in the force from across the galaxy, however, it almost immediately disappeared.

Soon after, as the door's beeping sensor went off, Barvokka growled in the Wookiee tongue of Shyriiwook for whoever was on the opposite side to come in.

Location: Silver Rest on Kashyyyk

A new master was coming to pick a padawan to train. Sehvis was very anxious and excited about that because part of her wanted to be chosen while the other was terrified of being chosen. Is this master going to indulge in science as much as she plans to? Will they allow her to conduct experiments of her choosing? She figured it would all be situated in due time if she does get chosen. Coming to this planet was strange. There were some stories in the books of her village that mentioned this world. However, it was more of briefly mentioning how her ancestors tried to invade it as many other worlds in this galaxy. In truth, all worlds she has now seen since migrating from Dathomir less than a year ago have been very strange. Those red swamps had an eerie splendor to them that the mountains of Ruusan, and now the forests of Kashyyyk, could not be more starkly different from that. These were the planets the outsiders called beautiful, but Sehvis did not know what to think of them in the terms of beauty. She found them scientifically fascinating, but Dathomir would still remain as the most beautiful in her mind. It was her home world after all.

Despite the possibility that she was being analyzed among the near countless amounts of other padawans here, the day went on like usual. They would wake up, get dressed, eat, and then they went out to train. Luckily it was the drill for lightsabers. That part, Sehvis could survive easily. She always dreaded the force training classes. These others three years younger than her were far more stronger than she might ever be, and it was horribly embarrassing. The instructors told her to let go over her pride and embarrassment, but that is much easier said than done. They hardly understand too, at least that was what Sehvis thought. They did not have half of their lineage responsible for tarnishing their connection with the force. They did not have to be thankful that their forefathers did not have to breed with other beings for the sake of repentance to the force. Such things were the real cause for Sehvis questioning their ability to understand the embarrassment.

The day then turned after that round of training before the mid-day. She was called to the Silver Rest to meet with Master Drel Natrik. Sehvis was rather ignorant of the masters, so she had no clue what to expect. When she came to the door, she heard a familiar Wookiee voice belonging to Master Barvokka. She just stood in place and replied somewhat quietly, "Padawan Ynin. You asked for me, Master?"

After the Wookiee had growled, the Padawan entered. Drel began to turn to his side, as Barvokka turned to the face the Padawan. The big furry Master started to greet the Padawan very politely in Shyriiwook, which the Padawan understood enough. He then gestured to Drel and introduced him to the young Padawan. Drel now fully turned around from the window and set his gaze upon the young student. He immediately could see that she was a Yuuzhan Vong, which clearly fascinated him more than anything else.

He now extending his greetings to the Padawan, "Pleased to meet you Padawan, I am Master Drel Natrik". He ended with a soft smile, which made the big Besalisk seem more welcoming and less imposing.

He could not sense a massive amount of force sensitivity, which would make sense if she was hybrid. However, he could sense deeper, that there was a hidden potential within her. Something that was yet to be discovered. He could also she was determined and headstrong. Her thoughts dwelled on many things, but he could sense her ambition nature. Not the best quality in a Jedi, but far from the worst. With discipline and training, a Jedi's ambition can be used to great effect. He knew that if she could use her ambition in a sensible way, it would definitely not cause any problems. Just as he was about to cease his probing, he stumbled upon a sense of fear within the girl. However, it didn't trouble him too much as it seemed to be one of anxiousness, which is common amongst young learners. She did a better job than most at hiding it as well. Overall, he was hopeful after his initial impressions, and the girl hadn't even spoke yet.

He now focused and gave her a wider smile, one with warmth to it.

"Master Barvokka tells me you are progressing well with your studies".

He held the smile and awaited the teenage Jedi's response with eagerness. Barvokka looked over and gave a happy Wookiee chuckle.

She walked in. The master was a huge Besalisk. She knew many people would be intimidated, but she was rather curious. She has heard about these a bit, but never saw one. Having multiple arms was possibly the most interesting aspect about them to Sehvis. Made her curious about future experiments possibly. However, she knew this was the visiting master. He had to be. Then, from that, what does this meeting mean? Was she chosen? How, and why that might be raced around in her mind as she tried to come up with some form of logic for it, but she was stumped. She might have been overthinking it a bit, she has done that before in similar cases.

The master said his name, and looked hospitable. Her facial expression did not change too much in response. Her eyes were squinted less realizing that she can not analyze him now, and should look hospitable too.

"Pleased to meet you as well."
She paused a bit, then continued.
"Thank you master. I am glad to live up to expectations. Though, this meeting is not just say I am doing well, is it?"

Drel smiled yet again. He could sense the young woman's unease and slight discomfort. He understood perfectly, he remembered having similar feelings when he met his master for the first time. It is typical of most sentient nature, even among the Vong.

The young Padawan tried to hide her emotions and she did so well for one of her age. Drel could also faintly sense her mind dwelling on several things. However, she seemed to be curiously debating within herself rather than any kind of real panic.

He also realized that she had never seen a Besalisk given her immediate reaction upon looking upon him completely. She was not scared or fearful, but more of avid curiosity and wonder, which really impressed the Besalisk Jedi.

Drel was as well very impressed by her natural instincts. She seemed to be more instinctive than one might imagine.

After Drel had introduced himself, she had postured herself to look more presentable and welcoming. The young woman would then speak.

"Pleased to meet you as well."
She paused a bit, then continued.
"Thank you master. I am glad to live up to expectations. Though, this meeting is not just say I am doing well, is it?"

Drel kept his smile locked in place. He could now see the eagerness with her, which was something Drel longed for in a student. One who was eager to learn, eager to study, eager to develop. He had only met her a few moments ago, but Drel was already very impressed with the young Vong Hybrid.

He then commenced back into conversation, with Barvokka observing the dynamic going on between a future teacher & student.

"No young one, it is not".

"I have been searching recently for another bright young pupil to take on as my Padawan learner". "With the help of Master Barvokka here, I have narrowed down my search". "And today, I believe that search will be concluded".
Drel took a small deep breath and then resumed his kind smile.

"In just these past few moments, I have been extensively impressed with the way you have conducted yourself and with your clear curiosity".

"To me, young one, A relationship between a master and an apprentice must be built on the interest of development and progress". "The apprentice will develop and flourish under the master's guidance and the Master should progress and learn from the partnership as well". "Without that constant common practical interest, a teacher and student can grow apart over time".

Drel sighed, the memory of his first student coming back to him and the mistakes he made.

"I know from personal experience, what that rift can feel like", Drel now stopped himself, knowing that Barvokka could feel Drel's guilt towards the topic and it had started to show. Drel wasn't one to dwell, but when those specific memories came to the forefront, it was hard for him to ignore.

Drel ceased and returned back to a more positive route, as the hurtful memory faded away again.

"I see within you, both an increasing interest to develop and learn and a blooming potential that has yet to truly flower".

"It is my hope for you to become my Padawan".

"But before that, I do have one question".

"Why do you want to become a Jedi?".

As she listened to what the Master Drel was saying, she stood there attentively. Pristine posture, hands at the side, legs strait but not locked, and head slightly tilted up to look at the taller being before her. Her curiosity continued as he answered her question. She got the feeling she was saying and doing the right things, which assured her very much. Then Master Drel said it. He said he chose
her to be his new padawan. When the larger Besalisk said that, her gaze changed to astonishment. How could she be worthy? Her stance nearly faultered with the amazement and bewilderment she now felt.

When he sated the reasons of how he concluded his search, she was flattered. A very faint smile came across her lips with the feeling of accomplishment. If that was what he was looking for, then now things made sense to her. This change in mindset then made her curious as well. How could have she gone from bewilderment to accomplished that quickly? She might need to do some self analyzation regarding that when she gets the time.

Master Drel talked on more, and all of a sudden something changed in his expression for a slight minute. It was just enough for Sehvis to realize that was grief. The sunken voice, and longing stare was clear to her. She knew it all too well when her people split up after migrating from Dathomir. To believe that was only a couple years ago. She broke away from her empathy induced nostalgia when he asked her a question.

"Why do you want to become a Jedi?"

Sehvis had to ponder that a moment. Her eyes looked up to a side, and she cocked her head back facing more upwards thinking, and her brow-ridge furrowed slightly.. Her smile now turned into a straight line as she was thinking. Some of the beads from her ear piercings clacked together with the head cocked. It almost seemed that at the last collision of hardened wood and pearls that the answer came. Her head straightened, and her gaze became critically neutral, which then got followed with some more clacking from the sides of her head.

"Duty, Master Drel."

She held herself back a bit. She still wanted to hear more and see more from him before she would open up more. She did tell the truth, just not the whole story. She did not feel the time was right to divulge more unless asked to. Nonetheless, she was doing this mostly out of duty. Her people made the deal with the Silver Jedi when the settled on Ruusan. The strongest in the force of their youngest generation would be required to train as Silver Jedi, and her people, the Repentors, were granted freedom to live as they pleased in their village. It was her duty to her people and to the people who rule the planet her's live on to train as a Jedi.

He knew there was definitely more behind her answer and could sense she was holding back. Not yet willing to show all of her cards just yet. He briefly considering asking her reasons, but he was sure that he find out what those were in the near future. Drel knew that with most Padawans, the more time they spent with their master, the more likely they were to trust and open up to them. And that takes patience on the part of the master not just the student. And Drel had plenty of patience. Even though he answer was short and stout, it was good enough for him, knowing that she would divulge her true reasons and motivations one day and what her duty was towards, when she would feel more comfortable. Anyways, they had just met and that it would take a considerable amount of time for their bond & trust to fully develop.

Drel decided to accept her answer for the moment and move on with the process. Deep down, he was very eager to begin his instruction and mentorship of the young Padawan.

"Very well, that is a good enough reason as any, Duty is part of what makes us Jedi, part of the reason we exist".

"Padawan, I am sure you have memorized the Jedi Code by now". "Of course there are many versions and variations, but in the original official code established by Jedi Grandmaster Odan-Urr, the first line, "There is no emotion, there is peace", shows both the aspect and purpose of the Jedi, but also one of our small contradictions". "But with the purpose, this tells us our duty, is Peace". "To protect it, uphold it, and cherish it". "So remember that a Jedi's purpose might be among many things, but also remember that first line, because that there is a large aspect of our duty".

"Do you understand Padawan?".
This wasn't something he normally brought up, but with how much she had impressed him, he threw out one more little thing as a final test, and he was sure she would pass.

On one hand, Sehvis was glad that her new master did not press further, but at the same point she would not have minded if he did. Her new master; that thought was new to her mind. She liked that a bit. It showed she was progressing. Stagnation was not good for her thoughts. Progression was always good in her mind.

He then began an impromptu lesson about duty. She found that impressive that he was able to turn so little information into such a lesson. It showed his competency, and that Sehvis appreciated tremendously. She did memorize the Jedi Code. Possibly one of the first lessons she was ever taught by the instructors here if she could remember correctly. When he stated the purpose of a Jedi being peace, and that being a large aspect of the duty of a Jedi, she nodded understandingly.

"I understand.", she responds to his question. Her attentive look perused as she looked straight at the face of her new master. Such even now, with a whole lesson, that thought was still so pleasantly strange to her.

Drel looked curiously at his new apprentice for a second and then resumed a more normal expression.

With his analysis virtually complete, Drel was now ready to take on this particular student

She had passed every little test and mental pacer he had put her through.

He was convinced. She was special. In what exact way he was not entirely sure, but he was certain he would figure that out sooner or later. For now, knowing that she was, was good enough for him.

She would become his Padawan

He would become her master

And with the will of the force, they would flourish and prosper together, as mentor and student.

He gave her a smile and then would officially offer her the chance.

"Well young one, you have impressed me", Drel said with his signature welcoming grin.

"I believe you have a bright future as a Jedi, and I would like to be able to help you achieve that future". "To be along for the ride, as some say". "It won't be easy, but with training, determination, and patience, I truly believe you will fulfill your potential".

"So, Padawan Ynin, will you become my Apprentice?". He now widened his smile, very eager for her answer.

If she would accept, he would begin her training right away. The galaxy was at the tipping point, with the warring factions beginning to tear the fabric of galactic life apart by the seams. He knew this was his last gamble to try to build, to create, to cultivate something better than what had come before.

And It would start, with her.

The young half-Vong was very pleased with how she impressed her new master. She did not have to do all that much effort it seemed. She just acted as she would normally in this sort of circumstance. It astonished her that her behavior could be seen as exceptional. She made a mental note to make sure to keep up this behavior.

She listened to his words intently. Its simplicity intrigued her. Not some complicated mantra of the Jedi. Not some truly cliché line she has heard some of the Jedi say before. Just simply the truth of what would lay ahead from what she could see following this moment. She was surprised that she could still say no, though. To her understanding, she thought this was already arranged for her to follow this man across the galaxy for lessons and missions.

She accepted the arrangement with her previous understanding of it being mandatory, so, without any hesitation after he asked her to be his apprentice, she said "Yes, Master."
She then did a slight bow with her neck and head (a custom of her people). The beads from her many piercings clacking together in the process of what, to the outsider would see, appeared as a sort of long, choppy nod. She brought her head back to its original position before the head-bow, and returned her gaze back at her new master. The thought still remaining as pleasantly strange. She wondered how long she would still feel that way.

Drel now widened his smile ever more as heard her accept his offer and agree to become with his apprentice. Within him surged new feelings of hope. He soon composed himself and told her to gather her things and meet him back in the hangar.

Their Journey was about to begin.

After she exited and headed off to pack her things, Drel said his goodbyes to his old Wookiee friend and made his way to the gardens. He spent a short time meditating, before contacting Creshic to prep the ship.

(Introduction to NPC character in this private thread)

"Creshic, ready the ship".

"Yess Jedi"

His Barabel companion would do as was asked and the ship would be ready to depart. Drel soon exited the gardens and then arrived at the hangar. Turning the corner of a wall, Drel caught sight of his ship within the last hangar bay.

The ship was a
modified YT Freighter, which he had named, "The Solar Sun".

Drel arrived at his ship and awaited for his new Padawan to arrive. From then, they would begin their journey into the galaxy beyond.

After she was dismissed, she went to her living quarters within the dormitories at the academy. The halls were emptier due to most of the students being at their lessons and the masters either instructing those lessons or attending to other matters. Her footsteps echoed in the hallways, and her pace was somewhat brisker than normal. She certainly did not want to keep her new master waiting.

She eventually got to her living quarters door, and began to pack everything she could carry. Her journals, some of the cultural books the elders gave her before leaving her village, her new lightsaber, then various clothing items and jewelry. She decided to change into one of her people's clothes rather than the Jedi apprentice garb she had on for lessons. It was a long red, almost silk in texture, robe that had a near-dress-like appearance. Bands wrapped around her upper arms, leaving the shoulders exposed, which showed parts of some of her body tattoos. The chest had some mild exposure, with the edge of the robe fitted with claws from Dathomirian creatures her people used to hunt for food. The middle part of the robes then had small break of a midriff with the sides kept together with a mesh of the same material and color. With it, her stomach piercing, as well as more of her body tattoos, was shown. Now that she did not have to live in at this place, she felt its dress code for trainees to no longer apply to her, and her traditional clothing was certainly her choice to wear when traveling across the galaxy. The Jedi robes were surprisingly not as comfortable as the more silken clothing from her people's time on Dathomir.

With her things packed, and dressed in a manner she enjoyed more, she walked towards the hangar where she assumed her new master would be waiting. It took her some time to find the right bay the ship would be waiting in, but she managed to find it eventually. She saw Master Drel standing at the entrance of the ship, and hastened her pace a bit more. Her lightsaber at her waste, her clothes, baubles, and books in her backpack, she came up the entry ramp, did another head-bow to her master, and said "What comes next, Master?"

Drel now turned to his Barabel companion who had already stepped forward from behind him to greet Drel's new student.

5aa584e9ac2a1118d1f459de5a74196a.jpg

Creshic now bowed his head before the young Vong,

"An honor to meetz you young Jedi". "I am Creshic, at your servicez".

The Barabel kept his head bowed low for a moment then slowly traced backwards to place himself directly next to Drel. The Besalisk now would briefly explained the connection.

"Creshic is a Barabel and a good friend". "I fought with him when the Drael came to his world". Drel's voice now became slightly sad, because Barab I was where his second Padawan, Gheris Kamenda, was killed. His pushed aside his sorrow for the moment and continued.

"When Barab I fell, Creshic and his kin still fought on, even as the Silver Jedi & Alliance were being pushed back further and further". "I promised him and his people that one day I will return and liberate their world". He briefly turned his gaze to Creshic with a tint of hope.

"Until that time, Creshic offered, well almost demanded that he serve me until then". "No need to be afraid of the Barabel apprentice, they worship the Jedi above almost everything else".

After Sehvis would do her greeting and listen to the short history, which of course he would talk more about with her in the future, he would prepare them to depart.

"More for another time young one, come, we must begin our journey". He turned with Creshic towards the ship, with his Padawan close behind. Once on board he would show her to her room, where she would be spending a fair amount of time outside of training. Then Drel would signal Creshic to liftoff and for the ship to make its way from Kashyyyk's lush atmosphere into the depths and vastness of space.

The Journey had begun.

Peaceful Hymn
