OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: To create a setting for a prison breakout thread.

SETTING INFORMATION
  • Military Base Name: The Chasm
  • Classification: Prison
  • Location: Roon
  • Affiliation: Pyke Syndicate
  • Population: Moderate
  • Demographics: The prisoner population of The Chasm is quite low, always numbering at less than 50. The prison has 25 organic guards, and 50 droid guards for a total of 75 guards. The prison also has a ten-droid kitchen staff, 20 droid janitors, and around 40 additional organic workers for other jobs.
  • Accessibility: The Chasm is about as inaccessible as it gets. Its mere existence is a secret from most people, and it is entirely underground. There are only three above-ground points of access to the prison, and the prison itself is located entirely underground. The guards outnumber the prisoners 2 to 1.
  • Description: The Chasm is where enemies of the Pyke Syndicate who are too valuable to send to the Spice Mines of Kessel go when they “disappear”. It is one of the most secret prisons in the Galaxy, and even some of the Pyke Syndicate’s most important members are unaware of its existence. The prison is designed to be both inescapable, and unfindable. The prison is located on the planet Roon, which is normally only accessible through the Manda-Roon Merchant Route, and orbited by a Prosperity-class Medium Cruiser. The prison itself is designed to psychologically toy with its inmates. The prison’s architecture is deliberately misleading, with the need to “go down to go up”, and all of the walls in the prison itself are a stark white lacking any sort of decoration. The prison is currently managed by Warden Chajak Nydrell.
POINTS OF INTEREST
  • Access Points: This is where the prison is accessed from. All three points are disguised as abandoned buildings, which can only be distinguished from the real abandoned buildings dotting the plains of Roon by the fact that the three points form an equilateral triangle with sides exactly 2 miles long. In order to access the prison below, one go to the cellar of one of the buildings. The cellars of all three buildings contain rather out-of-place looking elevators, which are DNA-Locked. The elevators all lead to lead to identical hallways, which all converge on a staircase leading upwards to the Main Reception Area. In the event of an emergency, these access points each contain one RK-22 Armored Landspeeder.
  • Main Reception Area: This is where the prison properly starts. The room is a circular in shape, and contains the main reception desk in the exact center. The desk is usually staffed by two guards. The walls of the room are lined with a few very uninviting, white benches built directly into the floor for waiting. The Utility Floor can be accessed through another staircase on the opposite end of the room.
  • Utility Floor: This is where all functions of the prison other than containing the prisoners happen. Rooms on the Utility Floor include a kitchen for preparing meals, barracks for the guards and other employees, a storage room for the droids, bathrooms, and of course, the main Security Room. Another staircase leads upwards to the Atrium.
    • Main Security Room: This is the proverbial brain of the prison, where Warden Nydrell directs the prison’s management. The room is shaped like a large pentagon, with three of its walls dominated by giant display screens. These screens variously display security camera footage, diagnostic data, building maps, and/or incoming transmissions. The back of the room contains a series of tiered platforms where various technicians sit at their stations, with the top platform crowned with the warden’s command chair.
  • Atrium: This is where the Prisoners are actually held. The Atrium is a massive, cylindrical chamber with seven floors of seven prison cells each built into its sides. The different floors can be passed between by connecting staircases, none of which allow more than one level to be crossed at a time. At the top of the atrium is a large, fluorescent light fixture, which serves as a cruel mockery of natural light. All seven floors of The Atrium are patrolled by guards.
SECURITY
Maximum
  • Pyke Guards X25
  • Droid Guards X50
  • Security Cameras X50
  • DNA-Locked Doors X15
  • Code-Locked Prison Cells X49

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
The Chasm was designed as a place for the Pyke Syndicate to throw its problems into, and forget about them. While the Pyke Syndicate still operates other prisons, The Chasm is by far their most secure and secretive. Originally built during the reign of Grand Wsjirari Dazat Eios, it has been in continuous use for several decades. It was designed by Trilopar Ruongle, the same architect responsible for the Obsidian Shard.

The first prisoner to be incarcerated in The Chasm was a rebellious Pyke Baron by the name of Kandarax Aontis. Baron Aontis had attempted to break away from the main Pyke Syndicate and start his own criminal organization. He failed, and ended up living out the rest of his life in The Chasm, before dying of a stroke.

Since then, many unsuccessful enemies of the Pyke Syndicate have lived and died in the cells of The Chasm. Of particular note, when Grand Wsjirari Jej Ulchtar dissolved the Hakari (The Pyke Nobility), several of its members were incarcerated in The Chasm, where they remain to this day.

Serving as the Warden of The Chasm is seen as a very prestigious position by those who know of the prison’s existence. The Warden is selected for being especially practical, adaptive, and having a good deal of discretion. The current Warden, Chajak Nydrell, fits this description to a T, and is dedicated to serving the Pyke Syndicate.
