SETTING INFORMATION
  • Structure Name: The Obsidian Shard
  • Classification: Planetary Capital Building
  • Location: Oba Diah
  • Affiliation: Pyke Syndicate
  • Accessibility: Due to how massive the Obsidian Shard is, finding it is not very difficult at all. Accessing the building’s lower floors is also very easy, and helpful guide droids distribute maps of the building to visitors. However, the upper floors are a very different story. They are guarded constantly, and only people with predetermined meetings are allowed inside.
  • Description: The Obsidian Shard is the capital building of the planet Oba Dia and the headquarters of the infamous Pyke Syndicate. It is shaped like a triangular prism, and is located in the center of Oba Diah’s capital city. At 990 meters, it is the tallest building on Oba Diah, and the second tallest in the Kessel Sector. On the lower floors, there is an expansive lobby area with a very high ceiling. There is also a meeting chamber for the Oba Diah Senate, and several government offices. The upper levels are where the Pyke Syndicate operates out of, and these levels are closed to the public. The upper levels include a hangar for Syndicate spaceships, a secure vault, a weapon storage room, and a conference room for the Llomretal Council. At the very top of the building is the office of the Grand Wsjirari (leader) of the Pyke Syndicate. Naturally, the building is incredibly durable, and could withstand almost any amount of seismic activity, and would be barely scratched by a hydrogen fusion bomb.
POINTS OF INTEREST
  • Main Lobby: This is where most visitors enter the Obsidian Shard. It is a very large and wide open space. For the convenience of visitors, the room has several guide droids, who distribute maps of the building to visitors. These maps leave out any rooms related to the Pyke Syndicate of course. The lobby is also patrolled by several guards for obvious reasons.
  • Café: This is an on-site café for visitors. It is directly adjacent to the main lobby. It offers a wide variety of foods and drinks. While some of the foods are ubiquitous to the entire galaxy, such as the Space Waffles, others are unique to the planet Oba Diah, such as the pickled grinzibles. The Café is always up to date on health and allergy standards.
  • Office of the Prime Minister. Not far from the main lobby is the office of the Prime Minister of Oba Diah. The current Prime Minister is a Pyke named Urtabalya Diqueria, who is effectively a puppet leader whose job mostly consists of repeating orders given to her by the Pyke Syndicate. Despite all of this, her office is still very imposing and grandiose, and includes decorations such as a painting of the Obsidian Shard, a clockwork model of the Oba Diah system, and an antique Pyke space helmet. The entrance to the office is guarded by two guards at all times.
  • Oba Diah Senate Meeting Chamber: This is where the Oba Diah Senate commences its meetings, and is directly above the office of the Prime Minister. In theory, these meetings are meant to decide on important decisions about the governing of the planet, and be reflective of the needs and wants of the planetary population. In practice however, these meetings are little more than gossip sessions among some of the sons and daughters of high ranking members of the Pyke Syndicate who were deemed unfit to join the Syndicate themselves. The chamber itself looks like a smaller version of the Galactic Senate Chamber on the planet Coruscant, but with a noticeably darker aesthetic, and without the floating pods.
  • Main Hangar: This is where visitors can park their speeders and spaceships. It takes up multiple floors of the building, and could theoretically fit a large star destroyer, and still have room for more ships. Needless to say, this area is closely guarded, and any unscheduled arrivals are required to pass a checkpoint before entering the hangar. Additionally, a small fire-fighting crew is stationed here to put out potential fires started by crashes.
  • Mezzanine: This floor marks the divide between the proverbial puppet stage, and the people pulling the strings. This area is full of things like “keep out” and “under renovation” signs and caution tape to keep unwelcome guests from intruding on the Pyke Syndicate’s area of the building. The upper floors of the Obsidian Shard can be accessed through an elevator which has an “out of order” sign on it, but is actually in perfectly good condition.
  • Secondary Hangar: This is where the Pyke Syndicate stores many of their spacecraft. While smaller than the Main Hangar, it is still an extensive space, which holds all manner of spacecraft. There is a large elevator platform connecting it to the Main Hangar, which can fit a medium sized freighter. Like the Main Hangar, a small fire-fighting crew is stationed here.
  • Vault: This is where some of the various treasures of the Pyke Syndicate are stored. Needless to say, it is under constant guard, and would be very difficult to break into, let alone get out of. Only the most experienced safe crackers would have even the slightest chance of getting it open, let alone escaping.
  • Weapon Storage Room: This is where the Pyke Syndicate stores many of its weapons. This ranges from blaster pistols to droid tanks. In the back of the room is a shooting range, for testing these weapons, and to train new recruits on how to properly use them. For obvious reasons, this room is also heavily guarded.
  • Llomretal Council Conference Room: This is where the Llomretal Council meets with the Grand Wsjirari. It has a large, circular table for the members of the council, which has a hologram generator built into the center. This room is pentagonally shaped, and has windows in place of all but one of the walls. These windows are made of incredibly strong transparisteel, which allows people inside the room to see outside, but does not let people outside of the room see inside. This room is usually guarded, especially during meetings.
  • Office of the Grand Wsjirari: At the very top of the Obsidian Shard is the Office of the Grand Wsjirari. It is constantly guarded, and is off limits to anyone not approved to be there ahead of time. It has an expansive triangular floor, which is intricately engraved with scenes depicting the history of the Pyke Syndicate. There are several glass cases lining the walls of the room, which contain artifacts from the Grand Wsjirari’s personal collection. The room is shaped like a tetrahedron, and the walls are made of the same type of transparisteel as the Llomretal Council Conference Room, but with a distinctive red tint. The room is accessible through a staircase which is across the hall from the Llomretal Council Conference Room.
SECURITY
Maximum This is the most heavily guarded building on the planet Oba Diah. It has dozens of guards, plenty of security checkpoints, security cameras scattered throughout the entire building, and password protected locks which change every day.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
The Obsidian Shard was built as a symbol of the power and influence of the Pyke Syndicate. It was commissioned by Dazat Eios, the previous Grand Wsjirari. The head architect of the building was a Caskadag male named Trilopar Ruongle. It was designed to act as both the headquarters of the Pyke Syndicate and as the seat of power of the Oba Diah Senate. The Oba Diah Senate was and still is little more than a cardboard cutout which the Syndicate uses to justify their actions, so this was not a problem in the slightest for either group.

The Obsidian Shard took fourteen years to finish construction, and an estimated 44 construction workers died during the effort. The building was the tallest in the entire Kessel Sector at the time of its opening, and retained this title for 25 years. Some remodeling to the building has been done since its construction, but other than that, it has not been changed much since its original construction.
