STRENGTHS
  • Slave-Rigged — The Templar-class has a slave circuit system installed which has shaved a significant amount of the labor that would normally be required to operate this ship.
  • Firepower — With a variety of weapon emplacements installed, the Templar-class was capable of unleashing enough firepower to be cause for concern for other capital ships.
  • Focal Shield — When the Templar-class is receiving a sustained barrage from a single direction, the Shield Force Multiplier will concentrate the available deflector energy to create an impervious shield, capable of withstanding an unbelievable amount of incoming fire.
  • Heavy Armor — The Templar-class has a layer of composite armor plating which provides this ship a sturdy amount of defense from enemy fire.
  • EMP Resistance - The extensive use of Tridurium as an ingredient throughout the ship's interior paneling, alongside the faraday cage components, has insulated the ship's sensitive systems from most phenomena that might cause electrical disturbances, such as ion cannon weaponry.
  • Difficult to Trace — The Templar-class was equipped with a location scrambler that increases the difficulty of triangulating the location of this ship.
Weaknesses
  • Broadside Firing Arc Most of the firepower of the Templar-class are situated alongside its broadsides, chiefly, it's railguns. To bring most of its firepower to bear this gunship needs to run parallel with the opposing ship.
  • Exposed Rear The aft of the Templar-class completely sufficient covering or armaments to deter enemy harassment from behind, which leaves the gunship's engines vulnerable.
  • Lopsided Shield — When the Templar-class is receiving a sustained barrage from a single direction, the Shield Force Multiplier will cause deflector shields to concentrate around that spotting, leaving the other areas of the ship minimally shielded.
  • Irregularity Shield Exploitation — The focal shield being generated by the Shield Force Multiplier requires the enemy to sustain a constant barrage. When an opposing ship fires too infrequently, this prevents the Shield Force Multiplier from activating.
  • Multidirectional Shield Exploitation — When the Templar-class receives an enemy barrage from multiple directions, the Shield Force Multiplier gets scrabbled, and is unable to create a focal shield. This means Starfighters could work in tandem with a capital ship to collapse the focal shield being generated by the Shield Force Multiplier by hitting the gunship from multiple angles.
  • Slave Rigged — Because a significant portion of the Templar-class has been automated it also has increased vulnerability to Slicing.
  • Maneuverability — The Templar-class does not maneuver well compared to similarly-sized ships.
  • No Hangars — This capital ship does not have hangar space. To depart from this gunship, the ship will need to dock with a space station, space port, or another ship.
DESCRIPTION

Interested in expanding their catalogue of corvettes, the Federal Cooperative would purchase a recently bankrupted shipbuilder in Hodasal. The company had repaired and built Mandalorian-style ships for centuries. Specifically, their experience with maintaining and building Crusader Corvettes was of interest to the leadership at the Federal Cooperative.

The Federal Cooperative would reorganize the company as a worker-owned cooperative, renaming it to the MandalCo. Similar to other acquisitions, the Federal Cooperative would retain the majority of the staff, and put them to work. They wanted to launch a refit of the Crusader Corvette.

The Crusader Corvette was an impressive ship in its own time. It boasted an impressive amount of firepower, capable of wrecking havoc on enemy ships. However, the number of crewsmen it required compared to more modern ships was unacceptable. The MandalCo team would be given access to state-of-the-art slave circuits from the core worlds, and work to eliminate work that no longer needed to be operated by a biological being. After this was accomplished, large amounts of space were created – that the team could fill.

The MandalCo team would opt to install additional sources of power to strengthen the deflector shields of the ship, which they eventually settled on calling the Templar-class Armored Gunship. This new vessel would be given enough sturdy defenses, that it could move in close to an enemy ship and let them have it. And to that end, the MandalCo team would receive the financial capital necessary to purchase Shield Force Multipliers from Starchaser Enterprises to increase the defensive capabilities of the Templar-class.

Due to a political crisis in the Mandalore Sector, the Mandalorian craftsmen would need to find an alternative source for armor plating.

They would find it in the Raithal System Collective, one of the many branches of the Federal Cooperative. They received word of their issue and presented them an experimental composite armor they had been developing. In terms of its composition, this armor resembled Durasteel in most ways, except it substituted Carbon for Frasium and Phrik. These ingredients would increase the durability and strength of the armor far above Durasteel, surpassing Titanium and performing on par with Duranium. One notable consequence of using Frasium and Phrik though came in the color: the armor was a deep shade of purple. Perceived flamboyancy aside, the composite armor could withstand kinetic and plasma-based weaponry to an acceptable level – the MandalCo team moved forward with this new material.

The MandalCo Team would submitted and received approval on their design in 779 ABY. The Federal Cooperative would subcontract shipbuilders from Anaxes, Cyrillia, Hodasal, and Raithal, to build the new gunship. And two years later, the first generation of ships would be launched.
