DESCRIPTION
The Stratus-class Light Corvette heralds the beginning of a new, innovative generation of capital ships constructed by the Confederacy of Independent Systems. Designed by the lead engineers of Druckenwell Shipyards, the Stratus-class was build in order to fill the traditional roles of escort and general support. However, unlike Druckenwell's previous creations of the Corvette classification, the Stratus-class was built with the intention of stepping into a realm of combat capabilities formerly untouched by the Confederacy. To this end, the aesthetic of the ship, as a whole, is reminiscent of a starfighter (in particular, a bomber) and the vessel's total maneuverability was made a high priority. As such, the Stratus-class was equipped with a total of three powerful engine units and a foilesque pair of "wings" whose positions fluctuate depending upon the theatre of combat.
In particular, the Stratus-class' "wings" allow it to maneuver itself quickly and effectively in the theatres of open space and atmospheric combat. Armament-wise, the vessel is adequately equipped with a balanced assortment of cannons that allow it to address a variety of potential targets; from capital ship to starfighter. Furthermore, it benefits greatly from the standard means of hull construction undertaken by Druckenwell Shipyards: in which a combination of materials, famed for their dependability and durability, are layered upon one another in order to result in a hull that can withstand a large sum of punishment in the event of shield droppage. As a whole, the Stratus-class Light Corvette, named after the famous Alto Stratus of Jabiim, is an excellent introduction to the new generation of vessels entering Confederate service.
