Consciousness remained elusive, a combination of his exhaustion and the sedative effect of pain relief being fed to Balun Dashiel through the intravenous therapy, evident by the tubes attached to his arms and torso as he floated within the bacta-tank.

The battle of Moorja had almost cost him his life, and the duel against the Sith Lord Darth Nefaron Darth Nefaron had pushed Balun beyond his physical limits. The Corpse Lord had been a powerful opponent, outmatching Balun from the start.

Suffering the repeated strikes of Force Lightning, his body continued to heal from the third-degree burns that had seared his flesh, melted the fabric of his clothes to his skin and caused significant internal harm. He had received three broken ribs, a serious concussion and his muscles had been torn in multiple places from the sheer effort of standing toe-to-toe with the Sith. Emergency surgery had been conducted the moment Ala Quin Ala Quin had returned him to the High Republic Fleet, a punctured lung and internal bleeding the first of the medical staff's priorities before they would transfer him to Theed City, where his recovery and inevitable physiotherapy would be required. While the cuts, abrasions across his body, and even the muscle and ligament damage would heal, time would be the determining factor in his overall recovery.

At the present hour, however, time passed, and people came and went from the medical theatre, aloof to all but his lucid dreaming.

In the observation room, Tharan Zeren Kai stood alongside Auren Vellisar Auren Vellisar , a datapad in hand. In Balun's absence, all corporate and business responsibilities fell to Tharan, yet the needs of Jhaessa Prime were shared between the two. The older male, a political figure of the High Republic and representative for the budding trade-world that Balun had settled, helped in delegating information to the Jedi's family members, first notifying Judah Dashiell Judah Dashiell and inviting him to Naboo to visit his Son, offering his support as well as extending the invitation to family and friends who wished to see him.

For many, Tharan and Auren both included, Balun's habit of investing himself in so many differing roles in life had been a concern. Over the last year, especially, Balun had seen to almost all responsibilities and obligations regarding Dashiell Retrofit™ handed down to Tharan, so that he might instead focus more on his role as a Jedi, as well as a father to Kellan Dashiell Kellan Dashiell . From what little Balun had shared with Tharan, Tharan understood that Balun was the sole Force-User within the Dashiell's, and seeing him in such a state, he couldn't help but wonder what drove the boy to put himself in such horrific situations.

The Force, mysterious and ethereal, had alerted Kristyl to her Son's plight. A call, the presence of Caedyn Arenais rippling through the force in his intervention, reinforcing Balun's mental and emotional state, Kris had indeed felt her father's breaching of the veil. From her safehouse on Svivren, she had reached out for answers, and her father had directed her to Naboo; always vague, cryptic in his answers when it came to his living daughter, yet enough to be assured that Balun would yet survive the ordeal.

So she now entered the Observation room, the large room reserved for patients' loved ones and friends. Kristyl was neither of those things to Balun, though she was still his mother all the same. Absent in his life though she had been, always on the move with the Imperial Security Bureau hunting her down, Balun wouldn't recognise Kris were he awake to greet her arrival.

The redhead entered, cloaked in her robes resembling those of a long-forgotten Order; here on Naboo, most would simply see her as a member of the Jedi, something that Kristyl had banked on when planning ahead. Following her visit to Balun, she intended to seek out the Master, too.

Seeing Thavlar and Auren Vellisar Auren Vellisar standing at the transparisteel wall, her gaze quickly shot to the bacta tank as she approached to join them. Her son, well into adulthood, drifted within the bacta-tank. The last time she had seen him in person, he had been but a baby. She had seen holo-recordings since then, of course, and erased them just as quickly in order to forgo personal affects in the case the Imperials had caught up with her. Yet the man in the healing tank remained entirely unfamiliar to her, if not for his presence in the Force that she remained connected to.

"How is he faring?" Kristyl asked, not taking the time to introduce herself, but rather tunnel-visioned on her Son's view. Balun certainly looked the part, his torso bearing deep gashes and serious burns. The wounds had already started to heal, yet these things took time, and early days were still upon him.

For Kris, it was enough to see firsthand that he had survived.

It had taken him some time to arrive.

Judah was back in his old haunting of the Tingel Arm, staying on Celestia Station, getting back to his roots. He was growing comfortable once again in the Arm and wondering why he had reduced his presence to begin with. After spending the last few years in the Mid-Rim and Core growing the business - then becoming exhausted by petty governmental squabbles - there was nothing better than getting back to his roots.

Yet he had been called upon to return to High Republic space. Balun Dashiell Balun Dashiell had been injured. Details had been fuzzy at that moment but injured enough to be in a bacta tank. Dropping everything, Judah found himself back in the High Republic.

He was standing in the family observation room, the sickly sweet smell of bacta clinging to every surface, mixed with industrial grade disinfectant. Caf was in hand and he sipped it slowly, watching the floating boy in the tank. For the most part his was minding his own business, already having it be known to the medical staff he was Balun's father and would require daily updates.

Some redhead Jedi came in and inquired about Balun and Judah rolled his eyes. Frankly part of the reason his son was in this mess. Hard to break indoctrination from an early age. Still, this was a place of healing and being huffy about the situation with a random woman would be useless and frankly, just make him look like an ass.

Instead he took another sip of caf and kept his eye on the tank.

Back on Orron III, Makai had settled back into his easy rhythm of downtime outside of work. Waking before the sun to run shirtless in the wildest running shorts he could find on the Holonet. It had started during university as a joke and carried to this day, causing Ellie to roll her eyes when he walked back in through the door.

He knew the area like the back of his hand, having traversed the agriplanet's farmland since he was a boy. Using trails carved by locals moving grazing livestock from field to field made for beautiful, scenic morning runs. Peaceful. It was basically his boyhood home in a way and he relished coming back time and time again. Only this time he was looking to make the move on a more semi-permanent basis. To raise his daughter on the planet. Stability as she got older.

....deeper than the ocean is, wind it back and take it slow, leave....

A-Pop music blasted in his ears, interrupted by an extremely loud bing from his datapad. Arm lifted to look at his intellichrono, slowing down as he read the message from his father about Balun. Music stopped, movement came to a halt in the middle of the footpath. A reply to his father.

Yet he wouldn't be coming. He and Myra Arceneau Dashiell Myra Arceneau Dashiell were watching not only their own daughter on this trip but also his nephew, Kellan. Makai didn't want to bring a very young boy away from having fun with his cousin to sit in a sterile room and be worried about his father. That was a sad excuse for a childhood - he knew this first hand.

Being a father was quite ludiosis. He had found that out before Phoebe was placed in his arms. Yet he was driven in life by his wife and daughter, everything he did in life was for both of them. Part of that was being mindful of his activity. Salvage and mining was dangerous and he had close calls but it was different. What he did on a day to day was building a legacy for Phoebe and any yet-to-be-born children that would join their little family unit.

Fatherhood required sacrifice. Makai wasn't sure if Balun understood most days. As an older brother he wanted to clock the man and try to get it through his thick skull it wasn't about him anymore. Raised by a single father through horrible circumstance, Makai wasn't certain Bale understood what a lifeline he was to Kellan. Even if he and Ellie were in the picture, it wasn't the same.

Taking a deep breath, the half-Galan shook his head, starting back on the footpath back home. He wasn't sure his brother would ever get it.

Auren Velisar had remained alongside Tharan Zeren Kai for quite some time, both talking about Balun and their shared relationship with the young man. The Senator had met the younger Jedi when Jhaessa Prime's discovery had reached Government level, and opted to move to the new world in order to assist in its official representation and the future hopes of its people; Balun, of course, was bank-rolling the settlement of the planet and thus they had come to work closely together, forming what Auren now considered a friendship beyond their working responsibilities.

Tharan, on the other hand, was a businessman yet spoke of Balun with respect and personal admiration. A rare trait for a man who had been employed by a younger person, but no doubt a testament to both characters. He had explained his recent efforts regarding Dashiell Retrofit™, Balun's company, which coincided with Dashiell Incorporated™, the latter being family-led, with Judah Dashiell at the head.

Before long, however, they would be greeted with the company of two others, one being Judah himself, Balun's father. While the other wasn't someone that Auren recognised, yet seemed very intent on hearing the boy's status. Perhaps they were taking on a formal responsibility under the authority of Balun's Master Jedi; Auren couldn't be entirely certain.

"According to the staff on duty at the time of his arrival, Balun sustained multiple traumatic injuries, including three fractured ribs and a punctured lung. He presents with extensive third-degree burns affecting both external tissue and internal structures, accompanied by multiple abrasions. Examination also revealed a torn ligament in the right shoulder and associated soft-tissue muscle damage".

Auren gave pause, taking a moment to pace himself while the others absorbed the information.

"Additionally, he suffered a dislocation of the left knee and a significant concussion. At present, imaging shows no evidence of cerebral edema. However, neurological status and coagulation markers are being closely monitored for any signs of intracranial bleeding or clot formation".

Auren stepped to a nearby cupboard, roughly the height of his waist and took the boy's medical chart into his hand before turning back and offering it to the apparent Jedi among them, Kristyl Arenais Kristyl Arenais . "I am told the Grandmaster isn't likely to make another visit, so perhaps you could forward this information on to Master Ala Quin Ala Quin . From the briefing following the battle on Moorja, we can thank her for Balun's survival. She managed to locate him, unconscious at the time and get him to the High Republic Fleet. Apparently, the lad saw fit to duel a Sith Lord".

"In the boundless hush of stars, where countless voices rise and fade, I speak for one—Jhaessa Prime. Steadfast, unseen, yet worthy. For even a single world, wrapped in quiet hope, can shine like a sun if someone dares to speak its name."

On the outside, Kristyl Arenais appeared to take the news in stride, a mere tightening of her jawline compared to what most Mothers might present at such a sight, accompanied by the description of Balun's injuries. She was no typical mother, however, hardened over years of loss and betrayal, forever hunted despite her wish to have been left alone. She had grown cynical about the Galaxy with age and experience, and few things shocked her any longer.

Balun had positioned himself to combat a Lord of the Sith, doing what he obviously believed was his duty as a Jedi. Even the monastic order fell victim to Kristyl's scrutiny, perhaps one of the few things she held in common with the boy's father; yet Balun had chosen this life for himself and must have known the risks of walking into battle.

"I'll be sure to speak with Grandmaster Quin, worry not", Kristyl answered Auren Vellisar Auren Vellisar and shortly offered a half-bow of gratitude, mimicking the etiquette of the Jedi; "Thank you", she concluded, soon turning and only then noticing Judah Dashiell Judah Dashiell standing by himself, having remained silent since her arrival.

The father held a great deal of resentment towards her, and she did not blame him for it. She had given Balun up to the New Jedi Order as an infant and neglected to inform Judah that he had a second son. Furthermore, it was her lineage that largely contributed to Balun's sensitivity in the Force, no doubt a reason for the man to lay the blame upon her.

While Judah had given her some sense of relative peace during her visit, she silently acknowledged that this wasn't the time or place to get into past grievances, and she moved to approach him regardless. Initially, she said little, simply joining his side a respectful distance between them yet enough for the two to speak privately. Finally, she glanced at him, feeling a rare sense of apprehension. Perhaps anticipated a hostile response from the man, yet wanted to offer her consideration and time all the same.

"I doubt you're willing to talk, and I wouldn't blame you, but I thought I'd see how you were taking all of this".

Listening, he remained at the fringes of the crowd for an update. It wasn't that he didn't love Balun Dashiell Balun Dashiell any less for getting into the position he was currently in. While he was displeased such conversations and worries would be held for another time. Focusing on recovery was a priority. Yet as he stood by it felt to him that his role as a father was less appreciated than that of a Grandmaster or general Master or whatever was floating in Balun's orbit in this moment.

Not that he expected to have any power or authority or sway when it came to decisions or next steps. It just felt entirely different than when Makai had been injured shortly after university and fell ill. The medical staff saw him as a more integral part of Makai's life as a whole. In this situation it seemed the Jedi who led him into this mess far outweighed real family.

Murmuring a thank you for the update, Judah turned back to the transparisteel, gaze glued on his youngest. Wheels churned in his head, trying to figure out how he could get a PharmaTech medical staff in here for a second opinion. He was nearly desperate enough to call Danger Arceneau Danger Arceneau for assistance, but his daughter-in-law would be a much easier route to take if he decided to pull the trigger in that regard.

The redhead Jedi he gave little thought to earlier was at his side, asking questions. It took him a long moment, longer than he cared to admit, to realize it was Kristyl Arenais Kristyl Arenais . The woman had only entered his life to terrorize him. Naturally he was taken aback to see her on more neutral, caring terms.

Silence for a long beat.

"I'm fine." What else was there to say? Kristyl was one of them and any concerns he raised would just fray his nerves. "How are you?"

"Contrary to what you might believe, you don't need to hide your feelings in front of me", Kristyl replied gently, speaking with a quieter tone intended only for the pair of them to hear. Judah Dashiell Judah Dashiell held no kind words for Kris, and she understood why without needing to defend herself. Between the two of them, Judah had been the good parent, the active and responsible guardian for Balun Dashiell Balun Dashiell .

"I'm just as pleased to be here, as you are" she remarked, turning back to face the others who looked on through the observation screen and on to the bacta-tank holding their son; "It's complicated. I don't care much for the Jedi" she added, her continued hushed speaking, meaning to keep the conversation between herself and Judah, strictly private where possible.

"Leave them to presume my role here, I came for Balun," Kristyl muttered under her breath, offering a polite smile at the odd moment when Auren Vellisar Auren Vellisar and Thalvar Kai glanced their way. "Apparently, those two are friends of your sons, by the way", she called Balun Judah's son in the hope of openly recognising the difference in their contribution to the boy's life, and to avoid any off-hand comments shared between them. "There's no official representation of the Order or the Senate here as far as I'm aware of", she explained. Kristyl didn't have a who's-who detail on the High Republic side, but she had identified those two men through the background checks she had invested in their Son over the years.

Silence followed Judah's reaction, Kristyl allowing the two a brief reprieve while looking on over their child. Balun was a full-grown man now, somewhere in his early twenties if Kris had to guess, and powerful as far as Force-Users went, if her senses were to be trusted. "Have they explained to you what he was doing on Moorja?", she asked finally.

"Could have fooled me."

For not liking the Jedi, Kristyl Arenais Kristyl Arenais seemed to act like one. Had no problem dropping their son off at their doors. To be fair, he didn't know much. He still couldn't place her face. Dragging of hazy memories only did so much and could be considered unreliable in nature. His therapist, Tannor Grene Tannor Grene , was always all too eager to do a hypnosis session. Perhaps in the near future he would try to convince the man to do it for anything relating Kristyl. Doubtful since the man was so keen on trauma.

"Friends of my sons? Both of them?"

Brow furrowed, trying to place the two. Neither looked like someone Makai would hire. Balun, he was unsure. Judah didn't have the time to figure out who or what. A question that could be asked when Bale was able to be released from the tank and a little less groggy. His first words shouldn't be ones questioning affiliations.

"No. No one has explained anything to me but I've been keeping to myself to be fair. As for what he was doing..." Judah motioned to the tank. "Most likely something unnecessary which has lead to the the scene in front of us."

She didn't comment on Judah's initial sarcasm; this wasn't the time or the place to get into a pissing contest with the man. She simply held his gaze, briefly pursing his lips as though there was something she could've said, yet refrained.

The subject of the pair at the observation panel was an easy distraction from what would have likely become an intense and offensive discussion between the two, she soon turning side on to look back to Tharan and Auren Vellisar Auren Vellisar as she explained; "It's all public record, which is why I know of them. The one in the leather jacket" she gestured to Tharan Zeren Kai first, "Appears to be Balun's second in charge of Dashiell Retrofit. Auren on the other hand was a Senator and still remains to be the representative for Jhaessa Prime on Naboo".

"I doubt either of them is privy to Jedi business, either", Kristyl concluded thoughtfully. "I do plan on seeking out Balun's Master, though. She's the head of leadership for the Jedi Order in the High Republic, Ala Quin" she continued, informing Judah of her intentions. Though he may not have cared to hear it or necessarily wished to, Kristyl offered her truth freely, out of character, though it was.

"Contrary to what some believe, different Force Groups act and believe in different ideologies. While you might see them all as Jedi, each group has a different curriculum for its students, different ideologies, and especially distinct ethical and strategic boundaries in wartime scenarios. I personally would like to know more about the influence Balun has been under since his entrance into this group on Naboo". She expected more sarcasm, perhaps even relishing in the opportunity for Judah to bring up her past absence, yet she wasn't particularly in the mood to care to defend her actions while their son drifted in a bacta-tank, having nearly been killed.

Judah looked at the two men. He wasn't overly involved with Dashiell Retrofit so it explained why he didn't recongize them off the bat. Plus, Kristyl Arenais Kristyl Arenais called them 'friends' and he would personally consider them colleagues or representatives in his mind. Most likely due to looking at it through a business lens rather than....whatever view Kristyl was taking with the two. Perhaps something motherly. Maybe something more from a Jedi point of view, he wouldn't understand and he wasn't going to press.

Fishing around in his suit jacket, Judah pulled out a holocard with his information. Oceanic gaze checked to make sure it had his personal information one one side, flipping between the two sides of the navy blue identification card. He then reached out between them with the card between two of his fingers in offering.

"I would like to hear what you find. About this group." Fatherly concern first and foremost. Business concerns secondary. "My personal information is on the back of this - a direct line to myself. The front is business contact and my two assistants listed. I've been a bit transient lately but refocusing my efforts on the Tingel Arm, Corporate Sector. Been living on the station you met me at."

Perhaps too much information but he doubted it meant anything to her.

"Only if you feel comfortable sharing the information, of course. No pressure."
