TFW you realize Counter Strike: Global Operations makes more money for Steam through micro-transactions than any new Half Life title would make from Valve.

With the millions of dollars that they haul in through these things, we're sort of forced to get used to it.

That said, I still feel like my money was well spent on Battlefront 2. EA has made some questionable decisions but it's been a great time for me, especially after the failure that it's predecessor was.
CS:GO is just cosmetic micro-transactions, is it not? As opposed to Battlefront 2's game balance altering micro-transactions.

Let me know if I'm wrong though, I haven't played much of CS:GO.

Probably. I haven't played a whole lot either.

I was more emphasizing the fact that micro-transactions are taking away from the Gaming Industry. Look at GTA V and it's lack of single player DLC for a perfect example.

As for Battlefront 2, they cut the cost of hero's down 75% which has made them much easier to acquire. The other unlocks aren't that much different from Battlefield Games we've seen in the past.

With the Free DLC coming, a lack of a season pass, I'm willing to overlook their silly idea's and give it time before I decide over all how I feel about it. My first impression of the previous title was enthusiastic for the first week and then came to realize how much it was lacking so I don't want to put too much on this but as far as first impressions go, it's impressed me.

Just go read the reviews.

A great one, as always is done by Kotaku.

TYPE OF GAME
Disappointment
LIKED
Amazing production design, story campaign has some exciting high notes. I beat up, like, 20 dudes as Darth Maul in multiplayer
DISLIKED
Disjointed story resolves conflict too early, multiplayer has a learning curve. Loot boxes, loot boxes, loot boxes!
DEVELOPER
Motive Studios, EA DICE
PLATFORMS
PC (Played), Playstation 4, Xbox One
RELEASE DATE
November 17th
PLAYED
Completed the story campaign in four hours. Played roughly sixteen hours of multiplayer and going strong.

The reveals and commercials they had for the Single Player Campaign had it showing promise...

I'm hoping that they'll be some Single Player DLC because the Campaign is just feeling lack luster to me (just finished it) and I want more - and wanted more from the beginning - and disappointed that the Campaign took the turn that it did.

Look what they've done to my dream
Another U-turn by EA hours before launch...

"Our goal has always been to create the best possible game for all of you – devoted Star Wars fans and game players alike. We’ve also had an ongoing commitment to constantly listen, tune and evolve the experience as it grows. You’ve seen this with both the major adjustments, and polish, we have made over the past several weeks.

But as we approach the worldwide launch, it’s clear that many of you feel there are still challenges in the design. We’ve heard the concerns about potentially giving players unfair advantages. And we’ve heard that this is overshadowing an otherwise great game. This was never our intention. Sorry we didn’t get this right.

We hear you loud and clear, so we’re turning off all in-game purchases. We will now spend more time listening, adjusting, balancing and tuning. This means that the option to purchase crystals in the game is now offline, and all progression will be earned through gameplay. The ability to purchase crystals in-game will become available at a later date, only after we’ve made changes to the game. We’ll share more details as we work through this."

It looks like EA pushed it too far with the micro-transactions:

PC Gamer

Last week, Belgium's Gaming Commission announced that it had launched an investigation into whether the loot boxes available for purchase in games like Overwatch and Star Wars Battlefront 2 constitute a form of gambling. Today, VTM News reported that the ruling is in, and the answer is yes.

The Google translation is a little sloppy, as usual, but the message is clear enough. "The mixing of money and addiction is gambling," the Gaming Commission declared. Belgium's Minister of Justice Koen Geens also weighed in, saying, "Mixing gambling and gaming, especially at a young age, is dangerous for the mental health of the child."

Geens, according to the report, wants to ban in-game purchases outright, and not just in Belgium: He said the process will take time, "because we have to go to Europe. We will certainly try to ban it."

And now, things will start to get interesting. I've reached out to the Gaming Commission for more information, and will update if I receive a reply.
Hawaii is also getting in on the action.

Chris Lee here - I'm the one in the suit. My staff just told me someone apparently found this youtube upload before we had a chance to finish putting it together, but I thought I'd leave it up and just post here to explain that this fight can be won if people step up. This fight is about protecting kids, protecting families, freedom from exploitation, and the future of entertainment in this country.

People are more powerful than they think. While we are stepping up to act in Hawaii, we have also been in discussions with our counterparts in a number of other states who are also considering how to address this issue. Change is difficult at the federal level, but states can and are taking action.

Even so, elected officials can't do it alone. They need your support and you can compel action wherever you live by calling and emailing your own state legislators and asking them to act. But don't stop there. Call your allies. Call your pastors and teachers and community leaders. Ask them to call your state legislators as well. Their voices are politically powerful.

I believe this fight can be won because all the key bases of political support across the country are on the same side. The religious community, the medical community, the education community, consumer advocates, parents, even many business leaders and local chambers of commerce. This is a fight that unites everyone, even the most polarized conservatives and progressives. Doing something is a political win for Democrats and Republicans alike. And frankly, we don't need to change the laws in every state - we just need to change a few and it will be enough to draw the line and compel change.

These kinds of lootboxes and microtransactions are explicitly designed to prey upon and exploit human psychology in the same way casino games are so designed. This is especially true for young adults who child psychologists and other experts explain are particularly vulnerable. These exploitive mechanisms and the deceptive marketing promoting them have no place in games being marketed to minors, and perhaps no place in games at all.

Your future is whatever you make it, so make it a good one. You have the power to get involved and decide this and the choice is clear: stand up now, or let this be the new normal from this point forward.

It's extremely bizarre that EA hasn't been making the most out of the Star Wars licence as they could have been. There's so much money to be made in a bunch of game concepts, yet they leave companies like Bioware with scarce enough resources to keep games like SWTOR alive.

Despite everything, I am still enjoying the Game.

I find the easiest way to rack up a decent amount of points is using fighters in Galactic Assault and then jumping to a Hero to take heads on the ground.

Battlefront 2's version of a Faction Rally has begin, my allegiance has been slated with the First Order and Faction objectives are now up for the month that The Last Jedi DLC and Movie is to bring us.

I'm having TONS of fun with the game. Lots of content, multiplayer is solid, and more and more is going to be added/patched/fix. It's unfortunate that so much negative attention got placed on one small aspect of the game that its many other fun elements got overlooked.

Also, if anyone wants to play on Xbox One, let me know.
