Imagine, if you will, a plank of wood. It lies resting on the surface of a body of water.

You can hold it in your hand, still on the threshold, and move it about. The water, as well as the air, will offer some resistance. And the wood will cause ripples in both, as it moves - more noticeable in the water, but still, present in both.

Nevertheless, moving it, will be an easy task. Setting it to rest, also easily accomplished. No discernible backlash will be felt. And the waves on the surface will gradually subside. You may even find that, as you sway it around, the resistance against such movement progressively diminishes.


Now, imagine that you pick up the piece of wood, with one hand, and raise it high above your head. Maybe higher still. As you lift it, you feel its weight stressing the muscles on your arm and shoulder. Pulsating waves of pain wash through your tired fibers, as gravity demands to the wood that it returns to its resting position.
And then, you release it. As the potential energy turns to kinetic, the wood accelerates towards the water's edge. Once it hits it, stronger waves will be produced, and water will splash. The wood, it will bounce up and down for a while along the ripples it has caused.

Then, consider the opposite. You push the wood deep under the water's surface. You feel its thrust against your hand as its innate buoyancy attempts to restore it to its previous state. Once more, after your muscles give in, you ultimately let go of it.
Now, the piece of wood comes rushing upwards, towards the surface. It might even do so with enough force that it could rise in the air, if momentarily.
In the end, and once again, as always, it will be resting on the water's surface.


Such is the way with the Force.

Pull or push yourself too hard towards one side or the other, and it will ultimately send you crashing down towards the middle. Causing violent ripples in the process.
But keep yourself in balance, resting at the threshold between light and dark, and every ripple you could ever cause will quickly fade into nothing.
