There were few people that could get her to put the paperwork down and tell them where to find her. There were few cases where that
ad'ika couldn't get her to drop almost anything she was currently doing and come help. He had precious few people who would. The more time she spent around him, however, she quickly realized that it wasn't just that he didn't have much in the way of family to help, but that she enjoyed being there to help. So here she was, off to wherever he needed her help to deal with whatever osik was the problem presently, and she was more than happy to help.
"Hey, Saram… what's it mean to be a Mandalorian? What does Mandalore even mean?"
"Hmm?" she asked, a little taken off guard by his question, let alone the nature of it.
"That's a complicated question.": She paused for a moment as she considered how best to answer the question she had asked him. Braze had proven to be surpsingly perceptive at times, but she was wondering how explain the concepts behind the resol'nare to a Jedi.
"Six actions. Doesn't matter whatever other osikyou believe in. These are the six actions you must follow to be a Mandalorian. A lot of people use it as an excuse to do whatever the shab they feel like. Those would be; wearing armor, speaking the language, defending yourself and your family, raising your children as Mandalorians, contributing to the clan's welfare, and when called upon by the Mand'alor, rallying to their cause."
"That last one's iffy, though, over the years many people have supposedly told the Mand'alor where to shove it when he tried to rally them to a di'kutla casue. It's a temporary position anyway. Lot of people don't believe this, but that's their shabla problem." She was immediately reminded of all the Manda'lors who had refused to be challenged, both in modern times and according to legend '
Ori'buyce, kih'kovid,' she believed.
"Is there a proper way to train with a jetpack, or do Mandalorians just get thrown into the sky and told not to die? Do Mandalorians learn this young, or is it something you pick up later?"
"With a jetpack?" she asked, remembering her own training before adding,
"Your parents and other trainers usually teach you before your Verd'goten." She imagery he'd used was admittedly funny, however, and it did elicit a laugh from her. "No, Mandalorians don't get thrown into the sky, not before they know how to fly with one anyway. You get plenty of time to practice first."
"And… what does beskar mean to your people beyond being hard to break? Do the colors on the armor mean anything, or is that more personal?"
"Were you just thinking of all these?" she asked tilting her helmet to the side in question. Then again, who the shab could he ask these questions to if not her? The
alor had an even busier schedule than she did, and he certainly didn't have the same rapport.
"The colors do mean something, but you don't have to have a color because it means something. Look at mine. Black's supposed to symbolize the wearer's quest for justice. Orange is supposed to signify the wearer's lust for life, but I don't care about any of that osik. I just think it looks good. Now Beskar? That's a whole other thing."
"It's only as good as it is because Beskar smiths know how to forge it that way," she started, searching her mind for what she knew about the seemingly mystical metal.
"It's useless to someone who doesn't know hot to forge it. You can't just melt it down, but that's what I was told, I don't really know much about it." She didn't really involve herself with that part of the process much in any event, she just wore the armor. Most Mandalorians just left it to the smith, just as she had.
She thought a little more before she could draw a good parallel,
"A Mandalorian gets their first set of armor when they officially become an adult, just like a Jedi gets their first lightsaber when they pass the trials, or however that goes. You usually don't get a beskar set unless your parents are rich and they want to spoil you, though. Besides, pure beskar and beskar alloys aren't the best for every use anyway. If they're smart the smith will use a variety of materials, if you can afford them that is. But if you're buying beskarm you've got the credits to spare."
"Can someone wear Mandalorian armor and still not be Mandalorian?"
"Generally that's pretty frowned on," she said, trying to give a measured response through half-clenched teeth.
"It's earned, right? You don't get to wear it without having earned it, and in almost every case outsiders who wear the armor haven't earned it. Haran, Mandalorians have to earn the right to wear the armor by completing their verd'goten. Why should outsiders get a free pass?"
